She had been ill quite frequently after moving in with her Uncle back east. A combination of her injuries and refusing to care for herself, she’d always thought. But Ella highly doubted she’d ever looked as dreadful and frightening as Vin did right now.

Bella rolled her eyes and ran a hand through her hair. “Just because she knows that doesn’t mean she won’t worry anyway.” Did he even know her at all? She certainly didn’t like the implication that Ellie was somehow at fault for fretting. If anything because of what was going on with Miles, she had all the more reason to worry!

“I don’t know. I called his grandmother and told her what happened. She said she’d keep him with her until they let Ellie go home. I’m not sure if she told him or not.”

The bartender couldn’t help but swallow thickly. It was never good when Vin got that look in his eye. “What’s this one done, then?” He whispered. “Bad?” 

Oh, great... Well he could only hope that this one wouldn’t be as bad as some of the others. “Just try to contain the damage, yeah?” The bartender mumbled as Vin started to move away. 

The man in the corner, meanwhile, hadn’t taken his eyes off the bounty hunter since he’d entered. One hand hovered close to his pistols. The other threw back another shot of whiskey. Oh, he had no doubt that if he played his cards just right, he’d lead him right to his prey. That girl was as good as his. Again. 

Once the glass was empty, the criminal got to his feet and nonchalantly stretched. Hoping to lure the man off into the more vulnerable position of being alone, he moved off toward the door.

Looking over to the cabinet he indicated, the girl nodded and made to get up. Bella needed to know what happened anyway, in case she was unable to get to work tomorrow. The redhead would be angry, Ellie knew. She’d likely scream at the new dancer who’d made the food, but she had to make sure that Bella remembered it was an accident, and her condition was rare. It wasn’t as though she had a normal food allergy that could simply be avoided or substituted. Most people hadn’t even heard of PKU, after all. Ellie couldn’t blame the person in the least.
