Production Notes for CIC Video Production
My video production consisted of a supercut of various rulers- from popular sci-fi/fantasy TV shows, movies- combined with real-life figures- including politicians and royalty, sitting on their thrones.
The thinking behind the production was to point out the materialism of the throne and how strongly power is imbued in popular shows. Â It was also to draw attention to how powerful something as material as a seat is.
The scene with Elizabeth sitting in two separate seats symbolises how the symbol is so powerful, and the action of sitting down, that regardless of where Elizabeth sits it becomes the âthroneâ.
The production process of this involved collating multiple clips, as is visible in the screenshot above. In order to maintain a flow I had to ensure the camera distance and angle did not disrupt the gravity of the flow of the video. This meant for instance a long shot could not contrast too starkly against a medium shot or a medium close up. Many decisions were made during the production of the video and I ended up having to cut out several scenes (roughly 6) making it difficult to fit the 1 minute timeframe.
Several âcheatsâ I incorporated in order to maintain flow and consistency included reversing the scenes. Some of the characters were rising up from the throne whereas I wanted them to sit down so reversed it in order to make this work.
Two things I would improve based on tutor feedback if I were to make this video again:
1. Improve the soundtrack to suit it better or just use audio from the scene.
We viewed the video without audio and it worked much better relying on visuals alone.Â
2. Improve the flow a little more, including more consistent camera angles that âleadâ better into each other. I felt it was a little weak towards the ending.
Thank you Andie and Karen for the great semester and feedback on the video! :DÂ

Trolling the interweb. Problem?
Trolling the interweb. Problem?
This guy set up a website offering âfreeâ photoshop jobs for people. But really he was trolling them. I find it funny how everyone got so mad and demanding when it was a FREE service.
Lolcats and Dogma combined as one..?
Scarlett Johansson Falling Down is a photoshop meme based on an exploitable cutout of the American actress tumbling to the sidewalk in Glasgow, Scotland. Or
Why do cats get away with being assholes?
We know we project our human values onto cats, but we find entertainment when they do the wrong thing. They are they sassy creatures that are selfish and can be jerks but itâs so lovable. Yet dogs canât do it? Why?
Thereâs this unwritten rule that âdogs must be loyal, if they do the wrong thing (unless theyâre amazingly cute) they will be punishedâ. Especially if theyâre bigger, older, uglier. As loyal companions, which have been known to even save human lives and assist humanity, they have that role to maintain.
Cats on the other hand.. well simply put, they are feline, sassy creatures with an attitude. But they are smaller, lighter, more feminine and gentle than dogs. They can basically do whatever the hell they want. But theyâre innocent- we canât hold it against them. Thatâs THEIR role.Â
I wonder if itâs a first-world western thing, to worship cats. Would other cultures be less inclined to? Maybe third-worlds where cats ravage the streets like rats, this is seen as âpestâ behaviour. In first worlds âcuteâ things have so much value whereas in non-western countries people donât have the luxury to worry about superficial things like that.
Just a quick thought.Â
Why are cats so popular on the Internet and not dogs????
This article explains it:
âWhile dogs have had a few notable successes online, they nowhere near match their feline counterparts for popularity. Jack Shepherd, community manager at BuzzFeed has a theory why."Dogs are the equivalent of a creative professional trying to manufacture 'the next viral sensation' to advertise a brand - sure, they'll have a hit now and again, but unless it's really exceptional work, you'll just ignore it, because you know they're doing it to get your attention," says Shepherd."When a dog gets in a box, it's because he desperately wants you to think he's cool. When a cat does it, it's because it suddenly felt like the right thing to do at the time. More often than not, it totally was. I think it's the very aloofness of cats that makes us want to caption their thoughts, or put them in front of a keyboard and see what happens. The many Keyboard Dogs were a failure not just because they came second, but because they were enjoying themselves far too much."

You fall, and the Internet takes over.
Datamoshing is the practice of intentionally using compression artifacts in digital video and animated GIFs that is sometimes to referred to as âglitch art.
Did some research on the net, KnowYourMeme has something on datamosh.
(or glitch art)
Or here is the tutorâs definition of datamosh:
Leveraging data compression algorithms in way intentional inventors did not inend them to be used. You are using these vectors to move pixels of material that they are not supposed to be moving.
The best scenarios are when you have things like when you have a really colourful image that goes onto a lot of movement from another clip.Â
Datamoshey... I will save it to the cloud :)! instead of making a quicktime output folder
