I remember it like yesterday and I'll never forget it. I was in high school biology in 10th grade and my step father was supposed to fly to New Jersey that very day for work and after the towers were hit, his flight was cancelled. He called me and my brother at school to let us know he was safe because before then, i had no idea if he was okay. This photo is a throwback from Amish Country in Jamestown, Missouri the last time I saw my father before he passed away. I took this particular photo because when the horse & carriage passed by me before I was leaving I noticed that the Amish woman was sporting some brand new Under Armour kicks and it just looked completely out of the ordinary for Amish People. Pope's Tavern in Florence, Alabama is arguably the oldest structure in the city. Carved out by Andrew Jackson himself as a shortcut to move supply wagons and artillery from Nashville to New Orleans. The house first operated as a hospital during the Civil War following a skirmish on the corner or Court & Tuscaloosa streets. It filled the heavy hearts during the war. Andrew Jackson kicked the mud off his boots there. Homesick soldiers died in hospital beds there. Sweaty horses, stagecoaches, travelers who'd fought underbrush, pock-marked roads, and fear of assault pulled in for a night's rest there. #popestavern #florenceal #alabamahistory #dscanlanphotography
