Yo, yo!! It’s been a while, but I’ve got a little project update for you all!

I will be posting 4 sample clips from the Part 1 portion of the full audiobook for Academy Showdown Gaiden: The Barefoot Girl—just to give you a preview of what the final video will look like with the updated character sprites, illustrated by the one and only Ink Knight! These new visuals add a whole new layer of immersion to the dialogue, so big ups to him as always!

And of course, I can’t forget our incredible voice cast for bringing these characters to life. I appreciate them all, and I hope we get the chance to work together again in the future!

As of now, I’m about 24 minutes and 13 seconds into the full audiobook. I originally planned to have this finished by Spring, but life, work, and admittedly some personal struggles got in the way. I’m doing a bit better now—or at the very least, trying my best—and slowly getting back into the creative swing of things.

I’ll be sharing more samples as progress continues, so stay tuned!

Hotaru Hyakuya (2024) drawn by Ink Knight. She's the protagonist of Academy Showdown Book 0: An Urban Fantasy, my 128-page web novel series. Ink Knight has been drawing this character since late 2019, so I included his older drawings to showcase his evolving art style!

This is honestly the coolest (and cutest) she's ever looked! Ink Knight's art has truly evolved! 🔥🔥🔥 I'm still in awe. Nice work, fam! Thanks again!💪💯

~Character Bio ~

Hotaru is a 14-year-old human brawler mage who is in her first year at Requiem School for Girls.

Hotaru possesses the rare ability to manipulate her mana to improve her physical attributes, making her much stronger, faster, and more durable than the average human. Throughout her primary school tenure, she was the physically strongest mage among the predominantly human student body. However, on her first day at Requiem, she witnesses the incredible power possessed by other physical mages, the majority of whom are non-human, and realizes early on that she'll need to work twice as hard if she doesn't want to fall behind.

Hotaru's parents were presumed dead after an accident while on an expedition beyond The Yolk when she was nine years old. She dismisses the death report, outright refusing to believe it as their bodies were never recovered. After receiving no real answers from her parents’ party-mates, Hotaru resolved to train hard and become an adventurer to travel beyond The Yolk and bring her parents home herself.

After an additional 9.4 months (approx. 286 Days), the epic conclusion to this short story (written 5 years ago) is officially DONE! 🎉 Now, I can FINALLY turn my sleep schedule around...I hope. Checked the pinned comment for my closing statements. Select the [CC] button for subtitles!

About a month ago, I dropped Part 1 of The Barefoot Girl, a fully voice-acted audiobook set in the magical world of Academy Showdown—based on a short story I wrote which is part of a much larger universe I’ve been building since my high school days.

The amazing cover art was done by Ink Knight and the voice work was provided by a talented young cast who helped bring this story to life! I even handle the narration myself! 😁

I’m currently hard at work on Part 2. Ink Knight is back with more art and a special surprise we’re saving for the release—so stay tuned!
