It was that damned scent of hers. Soap and lillies and Kate. It muddled his brain till he could think straight. He felt dizzy. The blood buzzing through his veins. Anthony didn’t realize when he had gotten lost in the moment. His movements stayed fluid but he was acting more from memory than consciousness.
Was he ever conscious when she was around?
Spinning spinning spinning spinning.
Round and round and round and round.
His hand at her shoulder slipped down, caressing the skin of her neckline. No amount of money could buy silk softer than her skin. His fingers caught at the sleeve of her dress. If only he could pull it down over her shoulder. If only he could press his lips against the skin there, press his nose against the curve of her neck and revel in the scent of her.
Kate’s angry whisper startled Anthony out of his thoughts. The music had stopped and they were at the side of the ballroom. When had he moved? When did they get here?
“The dance is over my lord. You should let me go now.”
There was a slight murmuring amongst the crowd. All eyes on the grip the viscount still had on Miss Sharma's hand. He bent over and kissed the back of her hand. Firm.
“Until we meet again, Miss Sharma.”
As she watched him walk away, Kate had the most unsettling feeling that something important had just occurred but she couldn’t say what.
