AU, in which Henry Mills is forced to see “the old people” flirting over groceries.

Neal gives Henry one tight hug before the kid darts off with Regina. The boy looks happy, so that’s good. He’s hoping things stay this way for a while, but with their luck…

“Ya think?” For Emma to say that about him when she looked the way she did… damn, that’s quite the ego boost, and it brings a smile to his face.”Well, thanks. You look amazing,” wait, maybe he shouldn’t say that. That’s not giving her space at all, is it? Well, too late. “I mean, uh…”

One head-shake and he clears his throat. “So, what did you two decide to do about Henry?” Weird, despite being the boy’s father, he feels like he’s being invasive by asking that.

“I do think” she nodded with the smallest of smiles. She shifted slightly, wondering if maybe that had been the wrong thing to say. But he did look nice, didn’t he? At his comment, she looked down at the dress, “Well this is one of the few dresses I owned. Mary Margaret said that maybe I needed to shop for more, but since this was so last minute” obviously she knew she needed more clothes, but of course there was a lacking amount of clothes that were her taste in Storybrooke. She would probably need to leave for a day to the nearest city to shop for new clothes. At his question about Henry, she found her gaze going towards their son and the back at him, “He’ll switch between Regina’s and the loft. And you, if you want him to spend the night with you, whenever?”

Neal doesn’t particularly like parties, mostly because they’ve never been a part of his life and he doesn’t know how he’s supposed to act. But this is a good thing, it’s a celebration for a wonderful cause: Henry is back.

Henry, his son. Still getting used to that, but he never saw having a kid as a bad thing, not for himself, at least. Neal’s only worry is that he might fail Henry or Emma again - which he just might, late as he is. Crap, gotta get going.

The man ditches the idea of wearing a tie. hoping that the reunion being at Granny’s means people won’t feel the need to go all formal. Unfortunately, when Neal gets there, he realizes his assumptions were wrong. Everyone seems to have put on their best attire. Damn.

His eyes scan the place and quickly land on Emma, Henry and Regina on a corner. She looks wonderful, and it makes him consider going back to change, but he chooses not to. There’s no point in trying to impress her, not when he promised to give her space.

“Hey.”

She’d asked if she could wear jeans to this thing, they told her no. This was a celebration, even though she points out that it’s at Granny’s, it earns her a look from her mother. She opts for one of the few dresses she still has in her possession, the one she wore the night Henry found her. Maybe it was ironic to choose that dress, this was supposed to mark a new beginning. She was talking with Regina and Henry, discussing their son’s living arrangements since he wanted to spend time in both houses.

She smiles as they agree that he can alternate every two or three days, and if that won’t work, they’ll think of something else. When Neal approached them, she smiles, her eyes leaving Regina to land on him. “Hey” Henry hugs his father, and then pulls Regina away saying he needs to show her something, leaving her alone with Neal. “You look nice”
