Duckverse June Prompt 2: Beach Day

Well, as they say, better late than never. It’s been a busy month for me, but I am trying to squeeze in a few stories for this all-new iteration of Duckverse June.
So, on that note, I give you…
It was a perfect day to go to the beach in Duckburg. As it happened, it seemed as though most of the city was at the beach on that day. This included Dewey and Gosalyn.
As was to be expected in the present situation, they were presently wearing somewhat more normal beach attire than what their default outfits called for. Dewey was wearing his swim trunks with his usual shirt, though he opted to wear just the T-shirt part of it on top. And Gosalyn had paired her dark green bathing suit with a presently-unbuttoned purple Hawaiian shirt and black shorts.
The two friends had found a volleyball net, and with some assistance from Launchpad, had managed to adjust it to a somewhat more reasonable height for two of their stature.
“Great! Now all we need is a ball,” Gosalyn proclaimed.
“Well, as luck would have it, my friend…ta-da!” Dewey flourished, bouncing over a few feet to where a perfectly good volleyball had apparently been abandoned by a previous party.
“Sick! Okay, who’s serving?” Gosalyn asked.
“That’s cool. You better be ready, though,” Gosalyn grinned as Dewey tossed her the ball.
After a couple windups, Gosalyn finally popped the ball high enough to serve over the net, and she and Dewey traded a few passes before she leapt into the air, spiking the ball down towards Dewey, with his attempts to return the kill being futile as he landed on his back.
Gosalyn brushed her hands together triumphantly, while Dewey tried to knock the sand out of his ears.
“Told you,” Gosalyn smirked.
“Okay. That was-a heck of a start,” Dewey panted. “Gimme the ball. I’ll serve this time.”
“And risk a 2-0 hole? Bold choice, Mr. Duck.”
It took a few tries for Dewey to get the ball high enough himself, but he got it over to Gosalyn, and once again, the two kept the rally going for a bit. Eventually, Gosalyn decided to go in for the kill again. However, this time, Dewey anticipated it, and the ball bounced off his outstretched hands, giving him enough time to right himself, pop the ball up again, and get it back to Gosalyn. He flashed her a brief, triumphant smile.
Over the next couple of minutes, the two teens kept trying to outdo the other, but whether it was Dewey or Gosalyn who offered a flashy serve, the other was able to answer back. At one point, they were going at it back-and-forth in midair, almost as if they were floating, time seeming to slow down for the two.
Eventually, Dewey intercepted a lob from Gosalyn that he met following two somersaults upwards through the air, and his return spike just missed the top of the net. Gosalyn successfully chased it down, but her return was too low, and it smacked off the net, arcing back over her head and coming to a rest in the sand behind her.
“I believe that’s 1-1,” Dewey announced.
“Okay, you got me,” admitted Gosalyn. “We both had to work for that point.”
Just down the beach, May and June, who, like Dewey, had also been brought along by Donald and Daisy, watched their cousin/brother and friend with interest.
As part of their new, much-less-like-Webby wardrobe, Daisy had designed some bathing suits for them. The tops were fairly similar, albeit in each girl’s signature color, but May’s had a skirted bottom, and June’s had shorts as part of it.
Anyway, the two girls were still getting used to having what would constitute a more normal life, and they seemed curious about what Dewey and Gosalyn were playing.
“So they’re just…tossing a ball over a net?” May concluded.
“Whatever it is, it looks like fun!” June exclaimed. “Let’s ask them if we can join.”
After getting permission, the twins made their way over to the volleyball net. Dewey and Gosalyn paused their current match when they noticed May and June coming over.
“Hey, guys,” Gosalyn greeted. “We’re just playing some volleyball. Wanna join?”
“Okay!” June replied enthusiastically. “But what’s the objective, though? Do we just toss it back and forth over the net?”
“Well, kinda,” Dewey answered back, making the so-so gesture with his hand. “Yeah, the ball goes back and forth over the net, but it can’t be directly caught. It has to be hit over the net in some way. And the objective is to score points, which are earned when the ball hits the ground.”
“I see,” said May thoughtfully. “How do we start the game, though?”
“It’s gotta be served to the other side,” Gosalyn explained. “Come on, May, you’re with me.”
June excitedly raced over to Dewey’s side in response. They had their teams of two.
“So,” Gosalyn began, readying the ball to serve, “I gotta get the ball up-“ She demonstrated her serve while explaining it. “-and over the net to Dewey, and he has to return it over to my side.”
Dewey made his return of the ball, which Gosalyn rested on the tips of her fingers.
“And beyond that,” she continued, “if you get the ball to hit the ground on the other side, your team scores a point. If it hits the ground on your own side, the other team gets the point. Make sense?”
Cautiously optimistic, May and June nodded.
The match started over again, now with four of them playing. At first, May and June tended to defer more to their respective partners, as they gradually got the hang of this new activity. But Dewey and Gosalyn were determined to crack them, willingly setting up plays for them as they got more comfortable.
Eventually, May and June really began to enjoy themselves. Their passes started popping, their sets began soaring, and their tips were tops. After June hammered home a kill that dodged between May and Gosalyn, the latter made an offer.
“Okay. I think you two are ready.”
“Ready?” wondered May. “For what?”
“Why don’t you guys play together, and go against me and Dewey?”
“Alright! Switch-up!” whooped Dewey as he and May changed sides. “Let’s dew this thing!”
“June, your turn to serve,” Gosalyn stated, pitching the ball to the cyan-clad girl.
June obliged, winding up and bopping the ball over to the other side of the net. Gosalyn returned the serve, and then May came in for the pass. Dewey returned this time, and he bumped the ball over to Gosalyn on his left. She once again rose up for the kill, but the ball deflected off of the hands of June, who was practically in midair as well, keeping the rally alive.
A few returns later, May lunged forward to deposit a dump over the net, which neither Dewey nor Gosalyn had enough time to track down. May whooped excitedly, as she and her sister double high-fived.
“Count it!” May exclaimed. “Oh, wow, I don’t know where that came from. Anyway, I believe it’s my turn to serve?”
Dewey nodded, panting, rolling the ball back to May. She took her place at the back of the court. After missing the first serve attempt, her second attempt sailed over the net to Gosalyn, and along the rally went.
As the ball arced between the two courts, May and June began to whisper mid-match strategy to each other.
“I wanna do the kill this time,” June began. “But I need your help for it.”
“Okay,” May replied. “Anything in particular?”
“Let’s just say it’ll be something that they’ve never seen before,” June put simply.
So they readied themselves for the perfect moment, and then, with the ball flying towards May, June gave the signal. In a sequence that seemed almost out of an anime, May leapt up, bumping the ball in June’s direction as she, too, jumped. As her own elevation passed that of the volleyball, she kicked outwards, the ball making contact with the bottom of her foot as she redirected it over the net. In a near-identical situation to Dewey’s earlier, the ball just avoided making contact with the top of the net, and even though Gosalyn’s dig attempt was successful, the ball flew near straight upwards, not having nearly enough momentum to find the other side of the net. Ultimately, the ball came to a rest just a few inches away from the center of the court.
Dewey and Gosalyn lay there in disbelief. June stood, hands on hips, beaming with both pride and shock. May pumped her fist coolly.
“Dude. What was that?” Gosalyn gasped as she and Dewey made their way over to the other side.
“Oh, just something I picked up when we were with…you know, F.O.W.L.,” June explained, punctuating in a more hushed tone. “Using our feet isn’t against the rules, is it?”
“In the Olympics, probably,” Dewey reasoned. “But not every volleyball player out there has super-awesome ninja skills like you do.”
June blushed at the compliment.
“But seriously,” Gosalyn continued. “You guys really handed us our butts here. Are you absolutely sure you guys have never played volleyball before?”
“We completely swear we haven’t,” May answered, putting her hands up in front of her.
“You were amazing,” emphasized Dewey. “We gotta catch our breath, and then we can continue.”
“But be warned, next set won’t be so easy for you two,” Gosalyn challenged.
“You’re on!” June fired back.
