Voltron Legendary Defender was a good show and a good example of a reboot in an era where most reboots are mediocre at best and it doesn’t deserve to be treated like trash just because its fandom is complete cancer.

I don’t wanna be that alarmist but I remember when I was reading on the FFXV leaks on the depths of the internet and I was like “pfft no way. ten years into the future? ifrit? pffffftt.” and then I turn the game on and omg the leaks were right.

The time and effort it takes to fake these kinds of leaks...even the ideas presented in them are so, well, off-the-mark of what most of us theorize that I think, in all instinctual honesty, they’re probably real.

If that’s the case, I implore you to IMMEDIATELY remove these images. This game of are they real or are they not real isn’t worth it. I shouldn’t even be making a post acknowledging them. Alas, I am a gremlin for new information, and am giving my two cents. Delete them if can, ignore them if cannot.

One thing I’ve never understood about fandoms in general is people who make lists of “demands”.

“Here’s my list of things that better happen in the show because my personal headcanons and interpretations must be appeased”

No, no… that’s not how that works. lol

Nope, sorry. Still not how that works.

It’s not your show, your story, or your characters, and the creators can do whatever they want with them, at their own pace. Do you have to like everything they do? No. Does that mean you can ignore canon and make demands at creators? No.

If your enjoyment of a show depends on your personal checklist being filled out, it’s probably time to move on.

Season 8--New Paladins?

Everyone here saying the MFE fighters are going to be the next generation of paladins and I just...aren’t they canonically like, in their 20s?? Aren’t Pidge and Hunk and Lance technically younger then them? Because if they were in Keith’s class with Hunk and Lance, and four years have passed, they were like 17 going on 21 or 22 now. Like, I’m all for this new team (but not as paladins) but to say the “next generation” insulates a kind of...passing of the baton to a literal next generation. In my mind? They won’t be inheritors of the lions, per se, rather co-inheritors of the will of fire.

Meet our precious new MFE team:

*heart eyes* We see them introduced as a group: already established, clearly already adept at working together, and already a unified team. They give orders as a team, work well as a team, and are very used to the militaristic conflict so present in S7. Overall, they’re already a good team.

The selling point of Voltron was that these 5 very different people were thrust into a blue lion room together, and they had to put aside their differences to actually save the universe. Sure, Pidge, Lance, and Hunk knew each other, but were they really friends? (Now they are though o(TﾍTo))

They found an Altean princess, learned they could pilot five robotic lions, and traversed the universe setting planets free from the Galra’s control. This journey has been about making them a team. It’s like, the greatest trope in existence. Here, take this motley crew with very incendiary differences, lots of untold backstory we’ll unfold slowly through the course of the show, divergent through-lines and: viola!

You got yourself a ragtag, ready-to-make team.

But the MFE fighters have pretty much gotten their shit together--together. Sure, they have backstory and secrets but they function well as one. You know what happens to teams that already have their shit together together? Narratively?

They still resist the empire they have to expand their cast. The OG paladins did this in finding Allura and Coran and, eventually, Krolia, Romelle, Matt, and literally so many aliens.

So, the MFE fighters, having already established themselves, would be super entertaining to watch for like 1 season. Without any new faces to add a new dynamic, we wouldn’t get to open the team up as much to new obstacles and storylines.

(I really, really, really like character-focused stories)

So, in order to get away from this kind of stagnancy, we could have the expanded cast, whom we already know and love, having to work side by side with this new team.

Smell that? It’s the stench of good conflict.

The Keith and James’ dynamic? I’d watch 20 seasons and a movie. Hunk and Kinkade? Uh, need I say more? Lance and Veronica’s established sibling slapstick? I mean Pidge and Leifsdottir firing off with knowledge AM I SPEAKING ALTEAN HERE OR DOES THAT NOT PIQUE YOUR INTERESTS EXPONENTIALLY?

So the setup of a “new generation” won’t necessarily be the paladins letting go of their positions but rather, interweaving with another crew. Bigger cast, sure, but more avenues to explore without sacrificing one team for the other.

I think season 8 will end—above all else—with hope.

Hope in our paladins, their new teammates and, if not a spin-off (pretty sure that’s a pipe dream) hope in creating a whole new canonically amazing universe to explore *winks at fic writers*

The future generation isn’t here yet, but the stepping stones are being laid out to welcome them and their own legacy to the VLD universe.

Like they’re doing with, you know, the MFE pilots. ;)
