Please do not commission iamespecter
Hey folks! Those of you who have known me a while know that I literally NEVER do this lol But sadly, at this point, I need to warn you all about another user. In June of 2025, I commissioned a comic from iamspecter. My friend had suggested them. The conversation was pretty normal. We shared ideas, and they asked to be paid upfront. I had no problem doing that. I do it all the time with other artists! And so I did. They said they would get me a sketch "soon". They were very responsive initially. I'm not going to post every bit of the convo, since a lot of the beginning of it was just discussing the picture (DM me if you really want the whole thing lmao). But you can get the general idea from these:
The rest of the convo was just discussing the picture. Once I sent the money over, well... that's when the issues began.
I reached out a month later, in July, asking how things were going. I never got a reply, but they were still posting things on Tumblr. I figured they would see the message, eventually. However, in September, my friend asked if I had ever had the commission made. I remembered that I never got a reply or rough draft about it. I reached out again. Again, my message was ignored...but they were still posting on Tumblr. A week later, I sent them a message (shown above) letting them know I might have to request a refund on paypal. Only when I threatened to take away the money did I finally get a reply!
At this point I was like... ok. Shit happens. I told the artist my problem was not with waiting per say, more the fact that I was being completely ignored while they continued to post and ask for more commissions/money. They admitted they had not been professional, and showed me a sketch. Since a sketch did exist I (in retrospect, unwisely) decided not to request a refund at the time. Again, this was in September of 2025.
Fast forward to December, and I noticed that the artist had again posted about wanting more commissions. So, I contacted them again and... again, I was ignored while they continued to post and ask for more "emergency" money/commissions.
Now, 3 months later, I let the artist know that I was going to request a refund for real. They never responded. When I did request it, it got rejected for being too long ago to refund (over 180 days according to Paypal). So, I asked the artist to refund me directly by March 15th. It is now March 16th, and I have yet to see my refund, or receive any communication in general...
...But they are still posting on Tumblr! They posted today! And guess what's pinned at the top of their blog?
So yeah... Do yourselves a favor, and please do not commission this person.
Do not send this person hate messages, or go bother them in any way. Do not harass them or their friends/family. I'm just suggesting that you do not commission them.
I will not be posting about this in public again, or responding to anyone trying to "debate" me about it. DM me if it's something you MUST add, but I would personally like to just get on with my life after this lol Have a good day, folks!
