Duke Thomas week 2026: day 4
Reverse robins au but with my weirdly pedantic version including big sister maps
Duke was five feet away from the Batmobile. How? He didn’t know, he walked out of his foster family again and now he was stood in front of what was equally the coolest and scarier sight of his life. All eleven years of it.
The body was clean and black and smooth, it looked like a toy car in how it curved, sucking in the light.
Curiously he let himself reach out, the pads of his fingers tracing the paint, stopping at the crack of the door.
Pulling at the Handle, he felt the lock pop open, the cars inner lights turning on. They were blue, oddly, probably to keep it harder to see.
Inside the car it was neat, the front two seats were fresh leather, the front console covered in flat screens, all covered in blue-green symbols, maps he thought.
If they were there was sometimes coming towards the Batmobile.
“Yeah Bats, I know I’m getting the car now.” It was a girls voice, maybe a few years older than him, high society accent. Fuck.
He was really glad his powers had better reflexes than him, turning him invisible before he could think about it. But he still panicked, sliding into the back, pulling the door shut. Not his brightest idea. At all.
“Yeah I know.” He could see her now, she was one of Gotham’s hero’s, dove he thinks. She was cool.
She pushed the door open, throwing herself into the drivers seat, pulling her mask off. There was no way she was old enough to drive.
Pushing himself up, he looked over the seat, watching the lights on the screens.
The girl sat back, looking over her shoulder. She froze as she focused on him.
Ok so realistically, he had two choices.
1) stay and explain himself, probably get sent back to the foster home he just left, which means he’s take a Step back in finding his parents
Or, 2) run for the hills and possibly have a bat on his tail
Yeah he can’t run that fast.
“Hi?” Turning himself back to visible he sat back down, back pushed to the door, just in case.
“Ok I wasn’t like trying to break in but like-“ “nah you’re fine, what was that?” She cut him off, climbing into the back with him.
“You went invisible, you’re a meta?” She clarified, sitting cross legged.
“Yeah, is that a problem?” Honestly he wouldn’t be surprised if it was. A lot of Gotham had issues with metas, that’s why he wasn’t registered as one.
“Nope, just curious, I’m maps.” She hummed, offering him a hand.
“… duke.” Reluctantly, he took her hand. Maps grinned.
“Well Duke, welcome to the Batmobile, any reason you’re here?” She was getting information, he could tell. Considering the detective hero thing it didn’t surprise him.
“No I uh…” trying to think of a lie on the spot was hard.
“Doesn’t matter, wanna go for a drive? There’s a bat burger near here.” So she thought he was a street kid. Technically, since he just ran away again, not wrong, but he still didn’t appreciate it.
“Sure.” He wasn’t arguing with a bat.
Grinning, she climbed back into the driver seat, “right, cmon, get in, Batman will pay.” She hummed, tapping the passenger seat.
Was it still a bad idea? Yes.
He climbed into the front.
“This is how you get kidnapped right?”
“You think I’m gonna kidnap you?”
