Lover’s Oath: A Moonstone Varian x Werewolf Hugo AU

It has all sorts of my personal favorite tropes: childhood (best) friends to lovers trope, noble royalty x personal knight trope, immortal x mortal trope, reincarnation trope, (destined) soulmates trope, cosmically bonded trope

and because I love both the medieval period & modern era settings—I said yes to both ...both is good

This little project has been consuming my soul behind the scenes since last September 2024. It’s a story concept that sparked in my mind after reading When The Stars Came Falling, How to Train Your Werewolf by @aziraphalesbookkeeper and Now That You’re Here, Dear Fellow Traveller by @littlemisslol-fic back to back haha—I took heavy inspiration from bits of world building lore established by these different fics that I really liked and combined them to create a whole new plotline for this AU from there, but added with my own spin on the take laid out by said lore of course!

Which I’ve been making concept arts/visual keys of in between other projects and I will post them in parts. I’m very excited to share and show them with yall!

ok side note but i think hugo was in coronian jail because he kept stealing stuff like rider and would constantly keep escaping so he was basically a regular in the dungeons at this point, like all the guards knew his name and if they saw him behind bars two thoughts came to mind “here we go again” and “when will he escape fhis time” because hugo always gets out around the second or third day either via donella or his own means. however when varian gets thrown in and they start bonding, hugo overstays his welcome and eventually two weeks have passed now. good for the boys bc theyre making friends yay! confusing for the guards because theyre so used to hugo escaping so early and now theyre just…. what the hell is happening..?. but this is super bad for donella because her best thief is not back after two weeks so she has to rush over and drag his ass outta there.

also another negative factor i thought of: i think varian’s sentence was either like a life sentence or the kind where he stays in jail until 18 then executed but hugo’s is different bc all hes doin is stealing and thus always gets a lighter sentence and even if we take into account how many times hes been in jail, he still wont spend a lot of time in jail with varian and will have to be kicked out eventually if donella doesnt come.

the way my partner talks about my ocd is so hilariously on point. for context, i experience a lot of verbal compulsions (feeling like i Have to Say a Certain Thing to magically fix another) and he just told me. "most of the time it's easy to spot a compulsion cause literally nobody asked"

i'll tell him that i want to watch a movie and then I'll specify out loud "you do not have to comply with my wish, but it was good to freely express it just as it is good for you to freely refute it" and he will look at me dead in the eye and say "who asked. compulsion". it's just brutal
