Sure! And I’ll also give a progress update. So unfortunately for me another au concept popped into my head and the idea had such a hold on my mind that I just had to get it out so I could focus. It’s a time travel au and it’s not finished. I only wrote the scenes that were really stuck in my head. Now that they’re out I’m a lot more mentally centered. As for Visited I’ve written the big stuff in the penultimate chapter. I don’t think sharing my outline would be much of a spoiler but just in case skip to the snippet now if you want to go in blind. So my outline goes:
Quaritch debating whether to stay at Hell’s Gate or take Spider and leave with half the other recoms (pretty sure I posted a snippet of this). This is completely done
Multiple scenes of Spider getting the rehabilitation he needs through playing with his friends and therapy techniques. This is the part I’m really stuck on right now. The fluffy scenes of the kids playing are just not playing in my mind like the other bigger moments have. (For context when I read and write I basically see the text like a movie in my head. But these scenes I’m only seeing as like quick little flashes instead of a fully formed scene, if that makes sense)
Quaritch goes through dream hunt (done)
Quaritch runs into McCosker and confronts him over his treatment of Spider (done)
And then there’s one more big scene at the end of the chapter that I’m not going to give any details on but it has not been written yet, though I have a very clear image of it all in my head so it’ll be easy to get through. I do bop around to different sections in my outlines pretty often especially if one scene is giving me writers block but the others are smooth sailing. Like in this chapter. That being said I don’t want to write this section until I’ve written about Spider’s rehabilitation since it’ll matter for the ending
After that they’ll be some really big events in the final chapter and then we’ll be done! I’m hoping the ending is one where no one sees it coming but then when you look back you see the little hints I’ve sprinkled through out the story. And I already know once I finish this fic I’m going to get asked for a continuation of it so I’ll say it now, I have no plans to do that. I’m down to write little snippets in this universe whenever I’m sent a prompt. And I do have ideas for a continuation that I could always outline. But I really want to start taking some of my full fics off my plate. That’s not me saying that I want to stop writing for this fandom. I’ve really just created so many lose ends story wise that I want to start finishing everything so that I can better focus on one fic at a time, or answering my asks, or writing au concepts without feeling like I’m being pulled in a million different directions and getting burnt out.
As of right now after Visited is done I’m thinking I’ll first get the next chapter of The Hard Way out because it’s pretty close to done as is the chapter after it.
I do want to take a little time to do some au concepts. I’d actually like to do some fun things for Halloween. I have a modern au inspired by the horror movie Don’t Breath that I’ve never published. There’s the Time Travel au I mentioned above. I’m pretty much done with part 2 of the au where Ardmore “raises” Spider. I’d like to explore that Spider-Man au more. And there’s a bunch of other great ideas in my inbox right now that I can’t wait to explore. So that might be my plan for October.
I did start writing the Sully POV of Cabin. It’s in very early stages and I have no clue when I’ll get back to it. But maybe that’ll be my November goal.
And lastly I desperately want to get back to Mama’s Boy to finish it off already. I think it’s been a whole year since I posted the last chapter. Years ago I posted a Christmas chapter for that fic and I’ve always planned on adding it in. I’m pretty close now to that point. So that might be my December goal. To get to the point where I can add in that chapter and get it posted by Christmas. Then in the New Year I’ll completely finish it off. I only see there being about 5-7 chapters left of Mama’s Boy. It’ll go through Paz’s entire pregnancy and birth. Then we’ll leave Hell’s Gate and go to the sea where the fic will cut off, then jump forward past the ending of Way Of Water and all the events of Fire and Ash where we’ll meet up with Quaritch and Spider again for the conclusion.
Once I finish Mama’s Boy then I’ll only be writing The Hard Way and finishing the choose your own adventure endings for Cabin which are already 50% done. So that’ll be nice. I actually just watched a movie called Heel that reminded me a lot of Cabin so now I kinda want to get back to that fic too.
So that’s my big update on everything. Now onto the snippet!
Miles steadily marched back to his apartment, taking deep calming breaths as he went. He needed to settle down. He couldn’t go back to Spider in this state. His boy was doing better but still wasn’t his normal self. If Miles brought his own anxieties into their home then his son would sense something was off and potentially start to back slip. So Miles had to stow it. Push the images from his mind and forget about the horrors of dream hunt.
The hallways were completely deserted, all of Hell’s Gates occupants sleeping soundly in their beds. The overhead lights were dimmed, creating a somber atmosphere that would have been calming if not for Miles' terrible mood. It was so quiet that Miles could hear every little noise. A snore as he passed an apartment. The low hum of the air system. The chattering of insects outside the window. And then as he rounded the corner, the unmistakable whimpers of a baby. The sound was so surprising Miles slowed his stride. He crept forward as a figure started to become clear in the low light. None other than Nash McCosker, cradling a swaddled infant in his arms. At the sight of Miles, Nash shielded his child away, “what are you doing here you big blue freak.”
Miles rolled his eyes. He didn’t have the energy for this. He waved Nash off while saying, “I don’t give a fuck about you. I’m just going home.” Nash glaired at him in reply. Then his baby started to fuss, drawing back its father’s attention. Miles glanced at the child curiously. “Boy or girl?”
“Boy,” Nash answered as he awkwardly attempted to calm his son.
Miles nodded, “how old?”
Nash sighed, “about four hours now. My wife is sleeping. It was a thirty hour delivery….”
Miles nodded, the hint of a smile on his face as he remembered, “…that’s almost as long as my partner was in labor with Spider. ‘Course I wasn’t there for any of it. She told me afterwards that she was refused any painkillers during it all. An order from upper management. They wanted her to suffer for choosing to have our son….”
If Nash felt a shred of sympathy for this he did not show it. “We don’t have the drugs on hand that they typically give out during child birth. They still gave her what they could to take the edge off. But she definitely suffered.”
Miles took this in, a small part of him happy knowing that the woman who had tormented his son had suffered herself.
So I'm the one who asked if you'd seen Spider-Man yet, and I just finished watching my fourth rewatch 😜 For me, this is the absolute best Spider-Man movie of them all. I'm such a huge fan of Tom Holland as Peter Parker especually in civil form, and in this part, we finally focus not on physical combat but also on mental combat. The best part for me was definitely how he tried to limit his powers out of fear and the Frank-Peter relationship. They were so funny together; the scene where he wakes up in the hospital and Frank apologises him and is like: "You look just like I thought you will be. A nice kid" brought tears to my eyes. Also when Frank pretends to be Spider-Man so that Peter can leave, it was the first time since forever where we see such a happines in Frank. On the other hand, I feel so sorry for Bruce. He didn't do anything wrong, he was just trying to learn physics in peace, and now because of someone else's actions he's stuck in a mental institution. I was devastated when they showed his smiling photo on TV and the reporter was like: "Wow, I wonder what made him finally snap?" as if everyone had suspected from the beginning that this would happen. His scene of internal struggle while trying to stop the Hulk from taking control gives me chills every time. But don't get me wrong, I love Jean even though she was the one who made Bruce lose his inhibitor. Her story shaken me, and the revelation of what V-max really meant brought tears to my eyes, again - Oh, how I cried in this movie, especially in the scene with Jean and Aunt May speech to her. The only thing I'm dissatisfied with are Yelena and MJ. I wish the movie was longer and we got more scenes with them, it felt a little bit rushed. But man, the Frank-Peter relationship has as much potential as the Quaritch-Spider Variant, either in version where Quaritch doesn't know that Spider is Spiderman, and in the one where he does. Just imagine,
❗️ SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER ❗️
that Lo'ak/Kiri are Jean variant (Neteyam is obviously Sara (*), I cried so much when Jean realized what happened to her) and Quaritch realises that he accidentally shot his own son/ he takes Spiderman to hospital and then he takes off his mask only to realise it was Spider all along and now because of him, his kid can die. Angst guaranteed! I could go on and on about this movie, but to sum it up, it was spectacular! I was also very moved by the scene where everyone is cheering Spiderman outside the hospital; I was bawling until the post-credits scene.
Thanks for sharing your opinions 💙 I love reading what others think. By the way, did you get a Spiderman pin? They still give them in my area, but it's possible it's because no one goes to cinema anymore -W ell, maybe apart from me and a few people, I have an unlimited card and I go a tealst 2 times a week lol. I can't wait for November-December, only good movies are coming out!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I didn’t get a pin but they were probably out of them. My local theater is always busy but it’s also one of the nicest theaters in my city. I’ve got a membership there and go pretty often but it sounds like you have me beat lol. November- December will be stacked with Sun Rise on the Reaping, Dune 3 and Doomsday but I’m also really excited to get back to some lower budget films now that Blockbuster season is winding down. I saw a free early screening of One Night Only and thought it was really great. I’m excited for The End of Oak street next week. Nimrods looks good as does Idiots and I also want to support Coyote vs Acme. If I could handle horror I’d be excited for Buddy because the trailer looks interesting. I’m just a baby and I’ll be an anxious mess for weeks if I see it. And then there’s The Dog Stars at the end of the month. The Uprising comes out in September and I’m hyped for that one. Give me all the movies about the working class over throwing the ruling class (give me that in real life too). The Forgotten Island looks sweet but I did feel like I watched the whole movie in the trailer. And then there’s Digger in October which I’m thinking might end up an Oscar contender. There’s some other movies I’ve seen trailers of recently that I really hope my theater shows. The trailer for Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother looks incredible and then I just saw the trailer for Wicker last week and that also looked interesting to me.
I just wanted to shout out some of these smaller movies because there were some really great films that came out earlier this year that didn’t get the flowers I thought they deserved. Is God Is, I love Boosters, They Will Kill You, and Good Luck Have Fun Don’t Die have been some of my favorites this year and they were in and out of theaters in like a week.
I was getting ideas for a Spider-Man Punisher au last night while I was trying to go to bed. I was thinking that maybe before she got with Quaritch Paz was a witch like the Scarlet Witch just way less powerful. She gave it up to live a normal life with Quaritch in New York but still secretly has warding spells around their home for protection. Spider’s back story is pretty similar to Peter’s just with Paz filling the role of uncle Ben. Paz’s death turns Quaritch into the Punisher and Spider into Spider-Man. Neither knows about the other. And then when Doctor Strange casts his memory spell to make everyone forget that Spider existed, Quaritch is at home where his late wife’s warding makes it so he doesn’t forget his son. Their family pictures are still all intact. Every document with his son’s name on it is still there. But like I said Paz wasn’t that strong of a witch so while the warding helps Quaritch not forget it does alter his memory into thinking his wife and son died on the same night, making him even more enraged as the Punisher.
I’ll stop there because like I said in the last post I’m trying to focus up and finish Visited but I do want to explore this more when I’m done. 💙
It's a bit of a shame they didn't mention Tony even once, but my heart definitely couldn't bear it.
I’m sure we’ll get a moment in Doomsday/ Secret Wars where Doom takes off/has his helmet knocked off for everyone to see and we’ll get a real gut punch reaction from everyone, especially Peter. Peter has lost so much that I’m actually glad they kept it more centered around aunt May’s death since her memory played into the ending. But I understand still wanting at least a shout out to the mentor/ father figure he lost.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you'll be able to watch it as soon as possible! Sometimes I'm glad that in my country, practically no one goes to the cinema after the day of premiere, and today I was literally alone in the 3D screening room and I even got like 10 backpack pins with Spiderman for free lol. Share your thoughts when you see it!
I saw it tonight! I almost messed up and bought a ticket for Tuesday at 10:30 pm thinking I’d be off work way before that. And on a normal night I would be but I forgot we had an event scheduled which can sometimes keep me there until 11- 11:30. But I rocked it out. We left at 10:30, I speed like a demon to get to the theater, missed all the previews but I made it for the opening! And I did really enjoy it.
Some non spoiler thoughts. 1. I love how it looks like a comic book. The dark knight trilogy (which I don’t like) really set a decades long precedent for drab looking “realistic” comic book films. Weirdly it was the Barbie movie that finally brought color back to movies and I couldn’t be happier to see that in Spider Man. Aesthetically it is so fun and I hope to see more like it.
2. Frank &Peter = New York dad & New York son. Mid key, kinda wanna write an au concept with Spider as Spider man and Quaritch as the Punisher and they’re actually father and son but that’s for September. I’m buckling down to finish Visited this month and refuse to look at anything else until then.
3. Damn I can’t with Tom Holland and Zendaya. They are literally so cute. Like I couldn’t get over how I was watching an actual married couple flirt with each other like it’s their first date. Also I saw the Odyssey yesterday, which was still sold out after three weeks so damn is their house hold having a month. I’m a big movie fan and go to the theater almost every week and this past weekend with the Odyssey and Spider Man combined was the biggest box office weekend of all time. And as a theater lover that just makes me happy.
Now onto spoiler thoughts under the cut

So let’s talk about Jean Gray. I’m a huge X-Men fan. Of all the marvel properties they’re my favorite. Probably because I’ve always been the outcast/weirdo especially in my family. And that’s what the X-Men is all about. They are ment to be an allegory for the marginalized be it, POC’s, queer people or trans people. So I was really happy to already see that carried over with Jean and her sister Sarah. They talked about how their own mother disowned them for being different. And while I can’t fathom that (as someone who wants to be a parent one day it truly boggles my mind how someone could grow a child inside them for 9 months, raise them, love them, and then disown them like they’re nothing just for being different) I know that is a very real lived experience for people who are queer, trans or gender non conforming. So I was glad to already see that represented in Jean. And the scene where Jean was in Peter’s mind to see that flash back of aunt May really got me. I’m sure for her hearing a mother figure say (and I’m paraphrasing but..) “you’re beautiful, and special, and loved. But not because you’re special. You’re loved just for being you. And no matter how powerful you get you will still be loved just for being you.” God I got teary eyed at that. I bet that was so healing for Jean to hear. And the fact that Peter saw how much she needed to hear that and allowed her into his mind and then took a bullet for her right after. Love. It truly shows that Peter’s greatest power is his heart and ability to empathize with others.
And that’s really underscored by how beloved Spider Man is to New Yorkers. Throughout the entire movie we see how alone Peter is. Since I spoiled the whole movie for myself beforehand I actually had an easier time clocking just how much he’s in the suit. Like Tom Holland could have pulled a Pedro Pascal/Mandaloran thing and only shown up to set when the script called for him to show his face. I do think Tom was in the suit most of the time. I’m just using that as an example to underscore how little we actually see of Peter Parker. He’s been throwing himself into being Spider Man for year without anyone around him. And he’s doing that to protect them even though he’s so lonely. So to see how New York came out for him when they knew he was in critical condition. For Peter to get to see how people cheered for Spider- Man but as himself. And to get to soak in the appreciation of the people he’s helped without the mask was really beautiful to me. And it was that plus his experience with Jean - seeing how lose and isolation effected her - that motivated him to rekindle his friendship with Ned and maybe eventually M.J too. I just really appreciate how recent Marvel movies have focused on mental struggles and have had “villains” who are really just people who have been failed by the system/ society and just need that one person who’s willing to reach out and help them. I really liked Thunderbolt for that reason and I’m happy they carried that over here. And I was really happy to see Yelena! Florence Pugh is just such a scene stealer in everything I’ve ever seen her in. I can’t wait to see more of her in Doomsday.
I also always love to see Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/ The Hulk. If you didn’t know Disney Marvel technically doesn’t own the rights to the Hulk, Universal does. They’re allowed to use him as a side character in their movies but they’d have to pay out the ass to make another stand alone Hulk movie. Which is a real shame because there’s this great comic book run where The Hulk is depowered leaving him as just Bruce Banner. During that time he trains his son Skaar to fill his shoes (and kill the Hulk because Skaar wants to kill his dad but y’a know…). The two bond during this time. And then Bruce’s powers come back and he completely loses it beating the shit out of his son. It’s only when he remembers his own abusive father and realizes the he’s repeating that cycle of violence that he’s able to make himself stop. He and his son shrink down to their non Hulk forms and the comic ends with Bruce just holding his son with love. You can probably tell from some of my works that I’m a big fan of narratives like that and I know Mark Ruffalo would kill it. Sadly though I don’t ever think we’ll see something like that on the big screen. I know they introduced Skaar in She-Hulk but I’m still waiting to see if that was just a cameo or if they actually plan to do something with that. Anyway as of Spider Man Brand New Day, Bruce is in a psych ward and as someone who’s been there done that, release my boy! He doesn’t need to be there please release him!
(Also while I’m on the topic if they do the battle world thing after Doomsday then I would literally scream in fan girl/boy if they added in Wolverine’s son Daken. I bring it up because Wolverine and the Hulk have their sons fight each other as a training exercise/ “play date” in the comic run I sighted above. Daken’s back story is real fucked up and his relationship with his father is also super fucked which again, I eat that right up. And Marvel fed me well with the What if comic where Wolverine actually got to raise Daken but we don’t talk about the ending of that.)
All my other thought are pretty minor. I always like to see Liza Colon-Zayas from the Bear. Since I literally live that show I couldn’t make it past the first season but Liza is great in it and I thought she had such a great presence as police detective Jean DeWolff.
I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of Tramell Tillman as the head of Damage control. My guess is when we get into the Mutant Sage after the current Multiverse Saga, is that Damage Control will morph into the department of mutant containment. So I expect he’ll be back.
Last, this is just a little detail but i really liked it. We see in that flash back with Jean’s sister that Sarah had the same bangs that Jean sports in the present. And I just really enjoy that silent story telling of Jean emulating the sister she lost and is trying to avenge. We see it also in how Jean ties her hair back before going hard with her powers, just like Sarah did and it was when she saw Sarah’s scrunchie that Jean really knew she was dead and not just missing. And i don’t know those little details really get me. Something similar happened when I saw Masters of the Universe earlier this year. You got to see the main character Adam as a child in the fantasy realm where he was born. When he was there he had long hair but then he was teleported to Earth for his protection we later see him in a class room with his hair cut short signifying how he’s literally been cut off from his home world and made to conform to a world without magic. It’s such a small scene too, like blink and you miss it. I know in my writings how Spider wears his hair/ is forced to wear his hair is always kinda a big deal, but in a movie form where it’s just something you have to notice I think it really speaks volumes as to who the character is and what there going through and I just really liked that. Probably why I write about it so much.
So those are my rambling thoughts and I’d love to hear all of your oppions on Spider-Man too 💙
Out of curiosity, have you seen Spiderman Brand New Day?
Not yet 😭. I’m really excited for it but it’s ridiculously sold out by me. Same thing happened with the Odyssey. I wasn’t able to get tickets for that until this Monday. I’m off on Wednesday so I’m going to see about getting tickets either Tuesday night after work since my theater runs a deal on Tuesday or see about going mid day on Wednesday when everyone else is at work.
Seeing how sold out these movies have been did get me to pre order my tickets for Doomsday though so I’ll be seeing that December 19th.
So something interesting happened today. A scammer posed as my mother via email to try to get me to share the vacation ending of Cabin so they could steal it. Do I think it was one of my fans? Absolutely not. I think it was just some random ass scammer trying to steal some scraps of my info. And damn would they have been disappointed 😂 or idk maybe they would have been into it.
I actually forgot that when I was bored I made a Blood Siblings Moodboard for Ada and Gunner some time ago and never showed it to you 🤦♀️ So here it is:
Let me know what you think 💙
Love!💙 I made a few of my own too!
Gunner
And Ada
Also I re read the blood sibling au while making these and it made me want to flesh out the twins more/ share some ideas as to where I was going with that au so…
Let’s start with Gunner because I feel he was the least fleshed out of the bunch. Honestly re-reading the au made me go, “oh that boy is autistic.” Now I am not autistic but my best friend is and I’ve known and been friends with people on the spectrum so I only know what it’s like as an outsider looking in. So if anyone would want to share their lived experience to better flesh out this idea then feel free! I always love to hear different perspectives.
Gunner has quite a few sensory issues and gets over stimulated easily. He only likes to wear certain materials. Others make him want to peel is skin off. His moms actually get him a special soccer jersey made because of it. He likes his hair short because it drives him absolutely nuts if it’s in his way. He hates wearing any kind of jewelry. Even a paper wrist band at a school carnival has him wanting to chew his wrist off. And there’s foods he’ll recoil at simply because they’re a “bad texture.”
He’s not great with emotional regulation or social cues. He seems pretty stoic when really he just gets uncomfortable and overstimulated in social settings, especially school, causing him to just check out as a way to cope. But if he can’t check out then sometimes he has melt downs where he lashes out. His moms make him a cool down corner in their house and give him headphones so he can decompress in a comfy low stim place.
And because I like the dinosaurs on your mood board his hyperfixation is dinos. He has a whole shelf of figurines in his room arranged alphabetically. He can rattle off their entire names no matter how long and complicated they are.
I also kinda like the idea of him being in Boy Scouts. He does prefer solitary activities over group ones and during camping trips will kinda just walk off to do his own thing. But he does enjoy it.
Now when it comes to Gunner in the cabin. I think he does enjoy being around all guys. He loves his moms it’s just a different vibe being in a male dominated house verses a female dominated house. The reverse is true for Ada. She hates being around only guys all the time. Gunner likes rough housing with his brothers, especially Spider since Hunter isn’t that into it. Hunter is the calmest of all the kids so when Gunner is forced by his dad to spend time with his family he’ll hang with Hunter since he’s typically quietly reading in the corner. Gunner will sit on the floor by his brother’s feet, perfectly arranging his dinosaurs or meticulously building a dino themed Lego set. And god help you if you fuck up his arrangement. Quaritch put up some soccer goals in the backyard so a few times a week Gunner can practice/play. When it comes to actually playing a game it’s either one on one with Gunner playing against Spider or two on two when they can convince Hunter to play. Quaritch is always down but he’s the last person anyone wants to play with. The only reason they ever let him is so they can have even teams since Ada never wants to join.
As for Gunner and Quaritch they probably have the most difficult relationship out of anyone. Because Quaritch just doesn’t believe his son is autistic. To him being autistic is someone non verbal who will need care for their entire life. His kid might be quiet but he speaks just fine and is independent as hell. Sure he’s got some behavioral issues but the kid just needs a firm hand, not the coddling his adopted moms gave him. So they butt heads a lot. For example Gunner doesn’t want to eat something because it’s a bad texture. Quaritch is gonna make him sit there until he clears his plate, resulting in a very frustrated Gunner getting upset and lashing out, which then leads Quaritch to tossing the kid in the cool down closet. There’s tons of screaming from the whole family as Quaritch tries to keep control, Spider tries to defend his brother and Gunner’s ability to regulate goes out the window. Gunner actually likes being in the closet after it all because at least it’s quiet.
Quaritch is not gentle with him. He’s definitely not telling his son that his emotions are valid. Instead it’s “knock it off!” “Suck it up!” “Stop your silly shit!” And so on. Not that he can’t ever be comforting. Gunner just wants absolutely nothing to do with him when he tries to be (or ever). Gunner also doesn’t want to be touched when he’s distressed so his dad trying to scoop him up and hold him only serves to stress him out even more.
But there are small things they get along with. Quaritch keeps strict order in his house. There’s a routine they follow to the letter. Everything has its place and is neatly arranged. Gunner loves that structure. And Quaritch loves how happily Gunner takes to it. Quaritch calls Gunner “his little bull,” because to him, his youngest son is “bull headed.” Gunner actually kinda likes the nickname, though he’ll never admit to it. There’s a spark of warmth in his chest every time he hears his dad call, “come here little bull,” and he’ll do as told with little issue. And if Gunner is really tired - like could drop and go to sleep on the spot tired - he won’t protest when his dad picks him up and carries him off to bed. Quaritch will nuzzle his check into Gunner’s hair and hold him close, thrilled to have a small moment of peace with his otherwise volatile son.
Also I’ve always had the idea that Spider’s younger brothers would want to emulate him by growing there hair out to match him and also spite Quaritch. Gunner wants to, especially cause he loves to piss off his dad but he’s got his sensory issues and can’t just “suck it up,” or “tough it out,” as Quaritch would tell him. As soon as it gets long enough to start bothering him he is stressed to the max. Luckily Spider figures out why his little brother is so on edge and takes some of Ada’s hair accessories. First they try a headband but Gunner can’t stand how it feels behind his ears. So then they try some little plastic butterfly claw clips, pinning every curl up and back. Gunner is very comfortable with it. His hair is so thick he can’t even feel them. Quaritch thinks his youngest son looks absolutely ridiculous with all the multi colored butterflies all over his head. He tries to convince his little bull to just let him cut it if he hates it so much. Gunner is ready to square up just at the suggestion. And then Spider makes him dinosaur hair pins out of air dry clay. Gunner is so ridiculously happy about it. He looks like a walking fridge magnet display but damn is he confident. Everyday Quaritch thinks about just chopping all of Gunner’s hair off while he sleeps to put an end to all the nonsense but he just can’t bring himself to do it. Gunner clearly loves his dino pins and would be heartbroken if he couldn’t wear them anymore. Plus their father son relationship is already so bad that Quaritch doesn’t want to do anything to make it even worse. Again I’ve had this idea for years now minus the part about the dino pins. But in my head Gunner always had sensory issues over long hair along with troubles emotionally regulating so I don’t know why I’m just now figuring out he’s on the spectrum.
Now onto Ada. I do feel she’s a lot more fleshed out than Gunner. She’s a girly girl, likes princesses- especially Rapunzel who she emulates-, does ballet and likes art. She’s opinionated and feisty and blunt as hell. Quaritch loves that because Ada is so much like her mother in both looks and personality that some days it actually hurts to be around her. She is his little princess and he sure as hell treats her like it. To the point where it’s so blatant that the boys are all like wtf? Now Quaritch doesn’t have a favorite. He just loves them all in different ways. Spider is his first baby and that’ll always be special. Hunter can be so timid he’s like caring for a baby bird and that brings out a level of gentleness Quaritch didn’t even know he could have. Gunner is his problem child (in his own eyes) and that just makes him want to love him harder. But Ada is his only daughter and his youngest child so the love she gets is very different than her brothers.
And while Ada does not like being around boys all the time, she loves the princess treatment. She already kinda acted like the queen of the castle anyway, her moms would just kindly put her in her place. But not Quaritch. Sure he still makes her complete her studies and eat her vegetables. But if the family is having a movie night and there’s an argument over what movie they should all watch, Quaritch goes with whatever Ada wants. Same thing for family game nights. Ada always gets what she wants. They all have to do chores but Spider’s chore list will be like: clean the toilets, burn the trash, scrub the floors. Hunter’s will be: dust the bookshelves and ceiling fans, scrub the dishes, take the rugs outside and beat them. Gunner’s will be: clean the counters in the kitchen and bathroom, wipe the bathroom mirror and all the windows. And Ada’s will be: wipe the kitchen table and fireplace mantel and that’s it. If it’s a rainy day and the boys want to move the living room furniture around to play, Quaritch will give them a stern “Hell no.” But if Ada wants to move the furniture around so she can have more space to practice her dancing then he’ll immediately start getting it out of her way.
Gunner gets mad about it (and lowkey jealous) Hunter is outraged too but keeps it to himself. Spider also feels it’s unfair but tries to calm his brothers down by saying, “she is the odd one out. I know it doesn’t seem fair but it’s also not fair that she doesn’t get to have any girls to hang out with.”
So I finally came up with an ending for this au. Some of you might remember that when I wrote the Military Dad au I mentioned I originally had that idea for this au but scrapped it because I thought it’d be too harsh. Where I was thinking of taking it was still pretty harsh with Quaritch breaking down Spider emotionally, using his siblings and past trauma as a way to manipulate him and mold him into the “perfect son” that’s completely docile. He doesn’t fight his dad on anything. His dad gets him to cut his hair short, so the other boys fall in line. Spider’s super depressed. A complete shell of himself. And seeing him like that just makes all the other kids so sad that they give up, leaving Quaritch with a lifeless household full of his children that he will never be able to make happy. Pretty dark which is probably why I never wrote it. I just wasn’t feeling that. So instead…
Yes Spider gets broken down for a little while. But after a few months he basically says “fuck this,” and decides to tell his siblings the truth. That he lived with his dad for the last few years after running away from the foster system and that he watched his siblings from afar just to have a taste of being their big brother. He takes them all out into the forest under the guise of playing. He’s so nervous to tell them all the truth and fears that they’ll all hate him now but damn does it feel nice to get it out so his dad can’t hold it against him anymore. Hunter and Ada are shocked. Gunner is just confused. He’s the first one to speak, “so you really didn’t have a choice but to live with dad again.”
Spider scratches the back of his head, “not exactly. I could have gone back to my foster home…”
“Where they treated you like shit,” Gunner says bluntly, “dad took care of you.”
“Yeah,” Spider agrees, almost embarrassed to say it after everything that’s happened.
“And you remembered all of us,” Hunter adds, “you can remember what it was like when we were all a family. Before we got separated….”
Ada nods, “that had to be really hard. I’d want to see you all too if we were separated again.”
Spider sniffles. His trauma from having his entire family ripped away from him is playing in his head and at the same time he’s overwhelmed with relief over his siblings understanding. But then the hard question gets asked, “what do we want to do now?”
There’s a heavy silence for a moment as they all think about it. Hunter is the first to say, “I want to stay here. I don’t even think my adopted parents like me that much. And I like it here, with all of you. Living in the woods. No public school. Or bullies making fun of me. And dad….he’s not so bad.”
Spider turns to the twins, “what do you guys think?”
Ada looks about ready to cry, “I don’t know! I miss our moms so much! I miss my friends! I miss going to dance class and art class! But I don’t want to lose you either!”
Gunner nods, his leg bouncing wildly as his emotions start to threaten to boil over. Stoically he says, “yeah I agree to all that. I miss our old lives. But I don’t think I can go back to it without you and Hunter…”
“Maybe our moms can adopt you,” Ada says, “then we can have everything we want!”
Hunter shakes his head, “I’d have to go back to my parents.”
“And,” Spider fidgets, feeling so awful for what he’s about to say, “your moms knew about me and didn’t want me. Same with Hunter’s parents. I was just too old and too messed up….”
“Well that’s bullshit,” Ada screams, stomping her foot to punctuate her outrage.
Spider holds his hands up to try and calm her down, “let’s put it to a vote. Who wants to stay?” Hunter’s hand shoots up. “Who wants to go.” The twins look at each other but don’t move. Spider sighs. He’s right there with them. “Okay let’s take some time to think about it. We’ll vote again in a week.”
“Even if we vote to go how will we get dad to let us,” asks Gunner.
Spider takes a deep breath. “I’ll worry about that.”
That night when Quaritch goes into Spider’s room for their typically emotional manipulation session Spider is sitting in his bed waiting for him. Quaritch approaches, casually flopping down beside him. He ruffles his hair with a, “what’s going on kiddo.”
Spider glairs at him, “I told them everything.”
His dad grins, “well it’s about damn time. How’d they take it?”
“Good. They completely understood where I was coming from.”
“Well isn’t that nice for you.”
Spider smolders with rage. “It’s fucked up how you’ve been treating me. What kind of father tries to convince his son that his siblings will hate him!”
“Y’a didn’t leave me with much of choice. You turned my own children against me first!”
“That’s bullshit and you know it! It’s what you did that turned them all against you! That turned me against you! We used to be happy…” Spider’s voice starts to break a little, “….we were happy before mom died. It would have never been the same but we could have learned to be happy again with just the five of us. But you wreaked that! And then when it was just you and me….i was happy. I thought we were both happy. But you just had to go and wreak that too.”
Quaritch actually has the decency to look guilty. “Well I can’t change the past. So how can I make it up to you?”
“The four of us are going to vote on if we want to stay or go in a week. If we decide to go I want you to honor that.”
Quaritch stops himself from openly scoffing. As if he’s going to listen to kids between the ages of 16 and 11. But it’s better to agree for now, just to make his son happy. He’s already starting to plan how he’s going to convince his kids to stay. “Fine. If you vote to go, I’ll let y’a. But I know I can convince you all to stay.”
Spider feels a pit forming in his stomach. “Good luck with that.”
Quaritch leaves, immediately going to his wood working shop. It’s summer time so he’d already been working on a few things to keep his kids entertained while they took a break from school. He stays up all night finishing them and getting things set up. Before the kids wake up he goes downstairs to call his squad, instructing them on presents to bring. They’ll be airlifted to him in three days. They he starts making a build your own pancake bar on the kitchen counter. When the kids all get up and file into the room they can immediately feel the energy shift. Their dad looks absolutely exhausted but seems downright chipper as he sips his coffee. “Morning kids.”
Ada is incredibly excited to see the spread, squealing in delight. Hunter is also very excited. Gunner’s eyes go wide. It’s too early for this much stimuli. Spider is unimpressed. “So this is your plan? Bribe us? Kill us with kindness?”
Quaritch smirks while patting him on the back, “relax Junior. It’s your summer vacation. It’s supposed to be fun.”
Ada and Hunter are already going hard. Ada is a mess of pink frosting and food coloring as she mixes a hot pink batter with strawberries, white chocolate chips and edible glitter. Hunter is making up a simple blueberry pancake but he is trying to tie dye the batter. Gunner joins in, anaylizing his options before dying his batter green, crumbling up a brownie and adding gummy worms. Reluctantly Spider joins as well, tossing in some chocolate chips and being done with it. Their dad helps the younger kids cook their creations. Spider is old enough to do it himself but his dad still supervise him. His siblings are different ranges of happy by the time they all sit down to eat. Ada especially is so bubbly and energetic she can barely sit still.
Then it’s time for some outdoor fun. Quaritch leads the kids to the backyard. “Alright. We’ll go oldest to youngest. Spider…” from behind the rooster enclosure his dad pulls out an off roading skateboard. Spider gasps as he accepts it. It’s so hard to find a spot to ride with his regular skateboard. He’s mainly been lazily trailing back and forth on their front porch which his dad hates because it sketches up the wood. Quaritch grins at him because Spider so obviously loves his gift.
“Alright, next, Hunter follow me.” The kids all follow into a nice shaded spot in the tree line boarding their yard. Hunter goes wide eyed. There’s a hammock strung up between two trees, lined with plush cushions. There’s a spiral shelving unit built into the side of one of those trees that can also act as a staircase for an easier time getting in and out of the hammock and an end table for books, drinks and snacks. Hunter is thrilled to have such a nice reading spot.
“Ada your up.”
Gunner looks at him in confusion. “But I’m older than her.”
“Oh by like two minutes. Just relax.” Gunner is already simmering in anger.
Quaritch guides them a good distance away from Hunter’s hammock so that any noise would be really faint. Still following the edge of their backyard they come across a princess playhouse. Ada squeals running to it. The thing is a good six feet tall. It’s beautifully made and painted in white, pink and purple. Ada stays in her little house, not caring about what her twin is about to get. The boys all leave her be as their dad keeps moving. Another few feet away they stop at an outcropping of freshly tilled earth. “Cool,” Gunner says, unpressed, “everyone gets a cool gift and I get dirt.”
Quaritch reaches out to pinch his chin, lightly wiggling his face, “smart ass. It’s not dirt.” He bends down to pick up a bucket with a small shovel and dusting brush inside. He hands it to Gunner then takes a few steps into the dirt. “Why don’t you come dig right here.”
“Why?”
Quaritch sighs, “because there’s a surprise now could you just….” Annoyed Gunner obeys. It takes him a few minutes but eventually his shovel hits something. Interested, Gunner dusts off the object to find the beginnings of a small dinosaur skull staring back at him. Instantly he’s excited, springing to feet where he starts jumping in place. “It’s a dig sight!”
His dad laughs, “it sure is. And there’s a lot of bones around here. I bet if you found them all you could make a little collection of dino skeletons.”
Gunner is so excited he starts clapping his fingers into the palms of his hands. He dives to the ground, eager to start excavating. Hunter walks off to go grab some books and climb in his hammock. Spider is happy for his siblings but also suspicious of his dad. “How the hell did you do all this?”
Quaritch huffs a laugh, “you really think I did all this in a night? Boy I’ve been workin’ on all this for the last three months. I had to make sure you all had some entertainment while we took a school break. I was gonna put the finishing touches on it next week but I turned it out last night. Y’a know, in case you’re all gone next week.”
That makes Spider feel slightly guilty after getting such a thoughtful gift. “Well…. I appreciate it.”
“Good. I hope you enjoy it. Wherever it is you go next. Now go have fun. But be back for lunch okay.”
“Okay, dad.” With that they part ways. Spider feels his emotions swirling inside him like a tornado as he rides into the woods.
Of course Quaritch can’t get his kids in for lunch. Same with dinner. Spider is the only one who comes back. Quaritch serves Hunter his meals in his hammock, sits with Gunner to make sure he actually eats since he’s so fixated on his dig site, and finally Quaritch and Spider eat with Ada in her princess castle. She calls it a tea party and makes them play pretend. It’s not until night time that Quaritch can get his kids inside. Hunter walks through the door when he runs out of light to read. “Can you add some reading lights to the hammock for me,” Hunter asks his dad.
Quaritch ruffles his hair, “you’d live out there if I did that.”
The twins both fall asleep in their play areas. Quaritch carries them in and gets a bath and their pjs ready. They’re both pretty fussy as their dad gets them ready for bed, both of them wanting to go back outside despite how drop dead tired they are. He tucks them both in and kisses them goodnight. Then he moves to Hunter’s room to do the same and finally Spider’s. They repeat the whole thing the next day. Then on the third day, their gifts arrives. The kids all wake up to the sound of the helicopter. Spider goes out to watch as a big crate is dropped to the ground before it flies away. His dad pops it open with a crowbar. When he catches sight of his eldest he grins, “go get your siblings.”
Inside the crate are four smaller crates. The first one to be opened is obviously Ada’s. It’s full of princess dresses, accessories, new toys and plushies. Next is Hunter who gets books, comics, brain games, puzzles, and toys. Gunner gets toys, Lego sets, sticker and coloring books, and some dinosaur plushies. Spider gets lots of new movies, music, art supplies, and creative hobby kits. The kids all go nuts. Before they can run off to enjoy their gifts their dad announces, “starting tomorrow I want to give you each a special day. If it’s your day I’ll make you whatever you want to eat. We’ll all do what you want. You’ll call the shots. We’ll go youngest to oldest.” Ada cheers.
So Ada of course wants to be treated like a princess for the day. She assigns everyone a role. Her dad is the king, Spider is her personal knight, Hunter gets to be a wizard (which he is pumped about), and Gunner insists on being a dragon. They start the day with a tea party where Ada commands everyone to dress up as their characters. Then they go outside to play pretend in her castle. For lunch it’s another tea party. Then Ada wants to put on a ballet performance. For dinner they have a feast fit for a royal court. There’s a few dishes Gunner refuses to eat because of their texture. Quaritch sighs but doesn’t push him, just kindly asks him to take more of the things he does like. Then it’s time for a movie. Ada picks Tangled. It’s not the first pick of any of her family members but they all sing along to some degree.
The next day is Gunner’s day. When Quaritch asks what he wants for breakfast Gunner just shrugs. Quaritch sighs but anticipated this and makes up a dinosaur themed meal, avoiding any textures he knows Gunner will hate. While he’s cooking Gunner approaches with one of his dinosaur books. He’s booked marked some pages with yellow sticky notes. “Can you make me these for my dig sight?”
Quaritch looks them over, “sure, I can do that. I’ll start working on them next week.”
“No. Today.”
Quaritch is flabbergasted, “but if I’m working on this then I can’t spend time with you.”
“I don’t want to spend time with you. I want to dig in my dig sight.”
Quaritch is insanely disappointed. “With your siblings?”
“No! By myself!”
That at least soothes some of the father’s hurt feelings. “Well fine then. If that’s what you want.”
But since Gunner has been at his dig sight basically non stop since he was given it, by the time the family goes to get him for lunch he’s frantically digging through the dirt, finding nothing. “Is that it,” he shouts at his dad.
Quaritch doubles back to the house to grab a guid he drew up, spreads it on the ground, then places every bone on it. Sure enough, Gunner has found every one. His shoulders slump as it feels like his life has no purpose anymore. “Hey, don’t be like that,” Quaritch says gently, moving to comfort his son, “I’m making you more, remember? And besides now we get to put’em together.” That makes Gunner light up. He really doesn’t want help with his new project but he also has no clue what he’s doing. So he lets his dad sit with him at the kitchen table and the two build the skeletons together. Gunner actually really enjoys it. They end the day by watching Jurassic Park with the whole fam.
Hunter doesn’t have a big themed breakfast. He just asks for his favorites. He lays in his hammock for a while, reading, but then by lunch time he announces that he wants to play D&D. He’s never had an opportunity to play since his parents thought it was “demonic” but since living in the cabin his dad got him all kinds of D&D stuff. Hunter has read up on everything. He knows the ins and outs of the game better than anyone. And since it’s his day, he going to make his whole family play. The game takes them eight hours and while everyone is very tired by the end of it they can all admit they enjoyed themselves.
That night Spider is lying in bed unable to sleep. Tomorrow might be his day but it’s also the day they agreed to vote. And he still has no idea what he’s going to do. In the midst of his inner turmoil his dad enters the room and sits on his bed. He brings his hand up to stroke Spider’s hair, smiling softly down at him. He chuckles as a memory pops into his head. “You remember when you were little and use to cry when I left for work?”
Spider sighs, already feeling like his dad is trying to manipulate him. “Yeah.”
“You used to break my heart every day. You’d run over and grab onto my leg so I couldn’t move. Your mama would have to pull y’a off just so I could walk out the door. And when I’d get home I’d pull up to see you waitin’ in the window. Your little face would just light up. I’d scoop y’a up and lift y’a high so you were “flyin’.” And you’d just laugh and look like the happiest thing on Earth. Y’a made me feel like a damn superhero or somethin’….”
Spider rolls his eyes, “what are you doing dad?”
Quaritch is genuinely taken aback. “I was just comin’ in to see you. I can’t help that I got a little lost down memory lane….”
“You know the vote is tomorrow.”
“Well yeah.”
“So you’re trying to convince me to stay.”
“Boy, I know you want to stay. Your morals might be in the way but you sure don’t wanna leave.” Spider hates that he feels some truth in that statement. “I know Hunter wants to stay. He told me himself. He said if you all vote to go then he’ll refuse to leave. I’ll take him somewhere far away from here….”
Spider feels a pit forming in his stomach, “you can’t do that! It has to be all of us or none of us…”
“Oh what, so you can all be separated again…”
“There’s gotta be a way for us to stay together!”
“There is! Staying here!”
“What if the twins don’t want that!”
“Well then it’d be a tied game. Unless you change your mind…”
Spider sighs. “I’m just going to vote with the majority.”
“Even if that’s not what you want? Even if it means going back into the system?”
Spider cringes, “I’ve run away before. I’ll drop them off then start running…”
“And go where?”
Spider already wants to cry thinking about losing his family all over again. Losing the safety of his home, even if that safety feels like a lie after everything his dad has done. To be completely alone again after getting to experience what could have been. It’ll be absolute hell. “I don’t know. Far….”
His dad sadly pats his back. “Well, let’s just hope it doesn’t come to that.”
In the morning Spider is too anxious to ask for anything special. He just wants to get the voting over with. So he takes his siblings outside, far from their dad. Hunter of course is still a yes. Ada starts sobbing. “I still don’t know! I miss our moms! But I really like it here! And if we go I’ll miss you all and I’ll miss daddy….”
Gunner agrees with that except missing Quaritch as much as his sister will. “Can’t we just have more time to think?”
Spider deflates. “The longer we wait the harder the decision will be…”
“Well maybe we stay for now,” says Hunter, “I mean things are really good right now but maybe in a few months they won’t be.”
Spider’s liking the sound of that. “So you think we should just do this again every few months?”
Hunter shrugs, “why not? At school we vote on a new class president every year. If the current one sucks then we just vote them out. So if dad does something to piss us all off then we can just go.”
Ada gets excited over the idea because it means she no longer has to choose. “I vote we all vote again later!”
“I’m cool with that,” says Gunner.
Spider sighs in relief. “Okay. If that’s what everyone wants. We’ll vote again in six months…”
“But that’ll be right before Christmas,” says Hunter
“Okay fine, six months and change. We’ll vote at the start of the new year then again in July and we’ll just keep repeating…”
“But if we choose to leave we can’t take it back,” says Gunner, “we’re finished if we do.”
Spider nods, “we’ll see about that.”
So they go back home. Quaritch is nervously waiting on the front porch. “So what’d you choose?”
“We couldn’t decide,” says Spider, “so we’re going to re-vote every six months. Which means if you want us to stay then you better be on your best behavior.”
Quaritch noticeably pales but is trying to stay firm, “well I’m still gonna be a parent. You’re not gonna get Christmas every day just so I can convince you to stay.”
Spider shrugs. “Who said we want Christmas every day? We want a good dad. I want you to be the dad I thought you were before you ruined our lives. You know, like back when I made you feel like a superhero….”
Quaritch grows sad and guilty remembering just how badly he’s screwed things up for his kids. “I can do that.”
“And in the meantime I want you to get me books on law.”
“Why? You wanna be a lawyer all of a sudden?”
“No. But I wanna know my rights. If we do ever vote to leave then I want to be able to fight for my family.”
“You know the system’s not always just…..”
“I know. But fighting is better than running away.”
His dad nods his approval. “Alright son. I’ll get you whatever y’a want. But you’re never gonna need it.”
“Prove it.”
Quaritch chuckles, reaching out to ruffle Spider’s hair. Spider actually smiles. “Well kid, it’s still your day. What do you wanna do?”
Spider almost feels silly asking but, “can we all just go for a walk together?”
Quaritch smiles. “Of course we can. It’s whatever you want.”
So would Kiri be only American or half Congolese as well?
So in my head I was kinda throwing around the idea of Grace experimenting with asexual reproduction. She would be experimenting with this in an effort to save endangered species that lack males for females to reproduce with. When she decided she wanted a baby of her own she preformed the experiments on herself, successfully conceiving Kiri. This would also make Kiri a clone of Grace so Grace’s background is Kiri’s background.
In your Hard Way fanfic, would Varang at any point consider Spider as a potential heir/tsarakem? I'd love to see more scenes of them bonding 💙
I really hope that Varang won't be pregnant in any of the future films, I have a feeling that it would ruin the dynamic between Spider and Quaritch
+ I can already see people who hate Spider suddenly loving this child, especially if it was a girl
I don’t have plans to have Varang every view Spider as an heir but you’re definitely getting them bonding next chapter. Next chapter will be a bit more chill with Varang attempting to bond with Spider, Quaritch at work and then a contentious family dinner to end the chapter. Chapter after that will be brutal though.
And 👀👀👀. I don’t want to spoil anything in the Varang and Quaritch having a baby department but that’s going to be part of the plot just not in the way anyone thinks.
And if in the actually movies they have a daughter together that kid would be around 6-7 years old since I think A4 is supposed to pick up after 7 years. So I think she’d be loved like in the way Tuk is loved but wouldn’t have much to do plot wise.
What nationalities do you think ATWOW characters would have in real life? I know in your fic they're from a modern version of Pandora, but if not that, then what? I'd love to hear about the Sullys kids and Metkayina
So for human characters like Jake, Spider, Quaritch, Norm, Trudy, Max and Grace their nationalities are just the same as their actors to me.
Anyone from the Omatikaya clan is from the Cango. That’s basically where Pandora is in my modern au’s.
And the Metkayina are indigenous New Zealanders like the Māori people! Actor Cliff Curtis who plays Tonowari is actually Māori himself and brought his people in to bless the set of Avatar which I think is really cool!
Hi, I wanted to ask a question that's been bothering me for a while, and I'm curious about other people's opinions, so I'm sending it to every avatar account I can think of.
1. Do you have any theories about what will happen in future Avatar movies?
2. In the future, who do you think would fulfill the roles of Olo'eyktan and Tsahik in Metkayina and the Omaticaya clan?
In Metkayina, on the one hand, we have the presumption of Aonung, and canonically, Tsireya who was Tsarak before Ronal's death, which seems like the obvious choice, but on the other hand, if Tsireya and Lo'ak got married, wouldn't he also be considered for the role of leader? Or maybe would he be the leader of the Omaticaya instead?
Would Kiri be tsahik after Mo'at's death, or will all these roles be filled by unknown characters?
3. Do you think Quaritch will get any important role in the Mangkwan in future films or will he simply remain Varang's lover with no status as she's already clan leader and tsahik? I can't wait to hear your opinions!
1. My biggest theory for future movies is based off the working title for the fifth movie which is The Seed Bearer. I think that “seed” will be a part of Eywa that can be planted on Earth to heal it. You’d have to defeat the R.D.A first so they wouldn’t just go back to Earth and destroy it all over again. And you’d probably have to have some of our heros remain on Earth for a while, if not the rest of their lives to help change the mentality of the people of Earth because I imagine them to be just so nihilistic and self centered due to the utter hopelessness of living on a dying planet. Those people would need one hell of a mindset shift because there’s no way you would just magically become an environmentalist after spending your entire life as a mindless consumer.
2. For the Omaticaya, none of our heros. The Olo’eyktan and Tsahik don’t have to be a mated pair as we see with Jake and Mo’at and later Tarsem and Mo’at. And Ikeyni (that cool lady with the red body paint we see in A1 and A3) is actually the Olo’eyktan of her village so the positions aren’t gender specific. And her mate is a warrior and as far as we know not Tsahik so again the two occupying those positions don’t need to be a mated pair. But again I don’t think any of our mains will be in those roles. There’s a reason they made Jake give up that position. It’s so he wouldn’t have to be tied down to a specific location. Obviously in the actual movie it’s because he’s going into hiding. I’m talking about the writers reasoning behind that narrative decision. We’ll be exploring even more of Pandora in any upcoming movies since they’ll be fighting a full blown war. And my interpretation of Toruk Makto being a uniter of clans is that he’ll have to unite every clan on Pandora to finally take down the R.D.A. That takes traveling. And you can’t really travel if you’re the leader of a whole village. So yeah I think that aspect will be more or less sidelined until maybe an epilogue. Tsireya was the Tsahik in training so she will most likely be filling that roll now that her mother is gone. But unless Tonowari dies then I don’t see anyone filling his shoes any time soon.
3. I think Quaritch basically is in the role Olo’eyktan of the Munkwan he just doesn’t officially have that title since Varang fills both rolls. I was just re watching A3 the other day and it’s so clear in the scene where Quaritch leaves his and Varang’s tent and sits by the fire with some other villagers that they’re scared of him. They avoid eye contact, they make themselves smaller like they’re trying to hide from him. Quaritch knows that too. That’s why he diffusers the tension with his little toast. They fear him but also respect him because they know he is their leader. Varang is following Quaritch, for her own gain sure, but following his direction non the less. I actually hope Quaritch becomes so entrenched with the Munkwan that if there’s ever a conflict between the Ash Clan and the R.D.A he ends up defecting with his clan. They’d steel a ton of weapons on their way out, then since Varang and them were effectively pirates before Quaritch, they just start that back up again, targeting the R.D.A more then any of the clans because they want their tech. I think that’d be really interesting and also give Jake a way to convince Quaritch to join him in defeating the R.D.A.
The concept is the end of the blood sibling au! After like a year I finally wrote up an ending I like. Also someone sent me a banger of an idea where Ardmore actually tries being nice to Spider to get him to talk instead of just tossing him in the neuroscanner and now I’m itching to write that but I also want to focus up and get back to my fics. At the same time though I’ve got a non writing related project that’s also been taking up the majority of my time since it actually has a hard deadline and that deadline is next week. Once that’s off my plate I’ll have much more writing time so maybe I’ll bop between both.
Hi! Can you tell us approximately when the ending of Visited will be released or give us a snippet?
Hello! So I’ll be perfectly honest I have no clue when it’ll be released. I had set writing goals for myself but then got distracted with an au concept I have yet to post and then life just got hectic. Last week felt like a whole month to me I was doing so much. Now I’m kinda burnt out and just trying to recoup. I plan on doing some writing tonight so hopefully I can get back into the swing of things. I do outline my fics so currently I need to write four sections of the next chapter. The final chapter as of right now is just one big scene. It’s going to be very dramatic to say the least.
Miles observes his reflection for the first time since waking up in his new body. He looked tired as hell, deep purple circles under his eyes. His hair was longer than he had allowed it to be in his entire adult life, the sides having grown in and the top now long enough to show a bit of curl, making it look like the soft peaks of an expertly made meringue. He hated it. Yet he couldn’t bring himself to open the drawer, grab his clippers and cut it back. Why that was came as a complete mystery to him. He’d never cared about his hair before. He kept it short, neat and practical. That was it. Currently it was none of those things. And yet he couldn’t get himself to fix it.
If he stared long enough he could see himself in a few months having a little beaded braid by his temple. Maybe one day that braid would be joined with many more in a war hawk similar to the ones the Ometikeyian warriors liked to sport. He already dressed like them. He had a song cord like every Na’vi. And an ikran. The only thing that was really missing was his acceptance into the clan. Then he’d be one of the people.
I already have people, he thought as he continued to regard himself. Loyalty to the women and men who served under him had always been one of the most important virtues in his life. He cared about his main team. He protected them and they returned the favor. In the past, caring might not have been the word he’d used to describe his feelings for the hundreds of nameless faces that had worked in Hell’s Gate but he at least valued them as people. He never laid awake at night, hunted by the deaths of those he had lost or anything like that. But he knew that every casualty was a failure of his ability to keep them safe. He never mourned them. He simply would evaluate what went wrong and come up with a solution to prevent it in the future. And his biggest laps in judgment had been trusting Jake.
Miles had put so much faith in him to negotiate peace. He might have thought of the Na’vi as savages back then but he still knew they were capable warriors. He hadn’t wanted to waste lives going toe to toe with them. Jake was supposed to prevent that. Instead he helped to cause it. He had been disloyal. And if he did it once he could do it again. Was Miles really willing to fully trust him? Especially when it came to his own child’s life? If it hadn’t been for Jake’s betrayal Miles could have raised his son. He’d be human instead of Na’vi. The woman he loved might still be alive. He’d have his entire family with him, both the one he made with Paz and the one he chose with his troop. Instead he got to watch Jake be happy with his wife, his growing family, and his village, while what was left of Miles' chosen family was breaking apart.
Oh okay, thanks for the reply 🦋 It's a shame they didn't give us a 100% confirmed Latino Spider, it would have been nice to have representation.I wonder where exactly Paz would be from.
Your welcome! And yeah I do wish we had confirmation one way or the other. And going back to the “I need to write an essay,” thing, one of my headcanons about the state of Earth is that every landmass currently close the ocean would be underwater by Avatar time due to rising sea levels. This would cause mass migration and over crowded cities. We actually see this happening now, after major natural disasters destroy whole cities. I’ve even know people who had to move to my city following a massive hurricane. And this happened like twenty years ago. We’re already seeing even worse now. By the time of Avatar I see it as being down right apocalyptic. So with a whole lot less livable land you’d have much fewer options for a country of origin. I still think Paz would identify as an American since the R.D.A is a fictionalized version of the capitalist American military industrial complex. That’s why basically everyone we see, minus Scoresby, has an American accent. Now America is supposed to be a melting pot so of course ethnic and cultural backgrounds could vary widely. But, speaking mainly for myself, while I’m insanely proud of my heritage as a descendent of immigrants, I was born in America, I’ve never been to my ancestors home countries, and so I identify as American.
And again I personally write Paz as being an orphan partially because of what I detailed in my last post but also because kids are expensive and I imagine anyone having a kid in Avatar time would be 1. To poor to keep them. 2. Too sick from pollution to be able to care for them. 3. Too nihilistic and hopeless to have ever wanted a child in the first place. And 4. Guilt ridden over bringing another life into a dying world just to suffer a short miserable life. Now potential spoilers for my fic Mama’s boy because I’m far from writing this and it might get left out but in my fic it’ll be revealed that Paz’s mother killed herself when Paz was just 3. Her father was never in the picture (because she was conceived through S.A) and her mother was suffering from everything I listed above. Paz was found wondering the streets after days spent alone, being ignored by the uncaring adults of her overcrowded city. Eventually she was brought to an R.D.A run orphanage where they test the kids to see if they’ll make a good solider, factory worker, servant or if they’re smart enough, scientist and then use subliminal messaging tactics to make them want the jobs that have been predetermined for them. It’s a very bleak concept l know, but I think the every day humans of Avatar have to be. When your only option for survival is to sell your soul to a company and work to genocide an entire race just so you can live another day, you’ve got to be beyond desperate and also beyond desensitized to violence and cruelty. And a factor in that desensitization is losing your connection to family, community and your culture. Those three things can be so important to our sense of self. They not only give us roots but also being in community with others and sharing experiences with them teaches us empathy and understanding. Something the R.D.A humans of Avatar are clearly lacking.
So I guess from that perspective your cultural background just wouldn’t matter by Avatar time because it would have been stripped away by the sheer dehumanization of the entire population of Earth brought on by centuries of desecrating our planet, destroying our resources, and the rich and powerful completely degrading the working class to the point of everyone having a dog eat dog mentality that makes it near impossible for them to form real relationships with one another as everyone desperately tries to survive. Again I’ve been think about just writing a whole ass essay on the state of Earth in Avatar times and the psychology of it’s people but as you can see I have a lot of ideas so that essay would take awhile.
