a/n: sorry if saiki is ooc guys
Saiki Kusuo hated attracting attention to himself.
It was a known fact to… pretty much everyone.
Anyone you’d ask would reply with, “Oh, Saiki? Yeah, he’s that guy who, uh… Yeah, he’s cool. Don’t know much about him, though.”
That meant his plan was working.
See, he isn’t your average high schooler, though he might appear to be so. He has psychic powers. And his whole life, he’s tried to draw attention away from himself so no one can figure that out.
That’s exactly why he’s here at the cafe you work at.
Now, you know that it wasn’t the most popular cafe. Of course. You got maybe 20 customers a day, 25 if you were lucky. But he was always one of them, ordering the same thing. A warm latte and coffee jelly.
Coffee wasn’t your forte. But coffee jelly? That’s the whole reason you were hired. You’d promised the manager you’d upgrade the quality of the coffee jelly here, and so he hired you.
When you went to serve his food, his eyes lit up at the sight. Of coffee jelly.
You pretended to walk away, but just wanted to see his reaction to it. It was the first coffee jelly you were selling.
As soon as he took a bite, his brain went: “Oh. Oh. This is good.”
His eyes closed and he smiled while chewing it. This is some really good coffee jelly.
Meanwhile, you were looking at him and enjoying it.
He looks pretty cute while eating that jelly…
You went up to him and asked “How does it taste?”
He nodded in delight. That’s gotta be a good sign, right?
“Thanks! I’m actually the one who brought this new recipe in. I added a secret ingredient.” You giggle.
“Anyway, thanks for the feedback.” You walk away.
Meanwhile, Saiki’s busy thinking. She made that coffee jelly?
It’s good. It’s… really good.
You go up to your boss and tell him, “I just got feedback from one of the customers. He loved it.”
“I knew I made a good decision hiring you. Good job.” He patted you on the shoulder, before peering outside the employee zone.
His eyes landed on Saiki eating the coffee jelly, and he pointed to him. “Is that the guy?”
“Yeah, he is! Do you know him?”
“He comes in here a lot. Orders the same thing, pays, leaves. Nothing special. But he’s… smiling. He doesn’t usually do that.”
“Oh? Guess I have some sort of power then.”
It was more than some kind of power. You’d taken over his head.
She makes good coffee jelly. That’s it. So why’s she in my head?
This was going to be a problem that even the great psychic Saiki Kusuo couldn’t fix.
—
“KUSUO LIKES A GIRL?” The voice of one of the other PK Psychickers, Aiura Mikoto, screamed.
“SAIKI-SAAAAAAAN! Tell me, is she hot?” Toritsuka Reita. He wouldn’t even bother with him.
“I don’t like her. I just think she makes good coffee jelly and she’s not getting out of my head. No consideration for me.”
“Kusuo, you like her.” Aiura spoke. She was convinced, and nothing was going to convince her otherwise.
“Okay, dumbass 1 and 2, come here.” She gathered the two of them around her overly decorated crystal ball.
An image of a girl in a cafe apron appeared. She was mixing a bowl of rich brown liquid, probably coffee for her signature coffee jelly.
“She’s SO HOT! Good choice, Saiki-san.”
“Stop it.” He looked exasperated.
Romance wasn’t for him. He knew that. He could read people’s actual thoughts, and see underneath the mask everyone put on. Looks also meant nothing to him, he could just see through their skin to see muscle and bone.
So why was he caring so much about this girl?
“Okay, Kusuo, how about this? We come with you to the cafe. We spark some small talk with her, get to know what she likes, find out if she has a boyfriend or not.” Aiura looked surprisingly excited for a person who seemed to like Saiki.
“Fine. But only because I want more coffee jelly.”
—-
“Welcome, welcome!” It’s that cute guy again. The coffee jelly obsessed one.
Saiki’s cheeks went red. What?
“Table for 3, thanks.” Aiura spoke up.
“Right this way.”
When seated, you ask: “Everyone’s orders?”
You point to Saiki. “Let me guess, coffee jelly and latte?”
He nods.
“And for the rest of you?”
“Nothing for us.”
“All righty then.”
This guy’s really cute. God.
Saiki flushes again.
“Kusuo? You’re blushing. Did you read her thoughts?”
“What were they? Were they erotic?”
Saiki groans. “Not everyone is you, creep.”
After you brought his coffee jelly and latte, Aiura spoke up again.
“Hey, come and sit down. We wanna get to know you.”
“Is that… Is that okay by you guys?”
“Yeah! Go ahead!” Toritsuka was too enthusiastic about this.
“So… what’s your name?”
“I’m [Name]. What about you guys?”
“I’m Toritsuka, the girl with the tits is Aiura-” He promptly gets slapped for that.
“Call me Mikoto. And the other guy, the coffee jelly one, that’s Saiki.”
“So, [Name], do you have a boyfriend?” Aiura asked. “I mean, with a face like that, you’d probably have guys lining up outside your door, am I right?”
“No, no, I don’t have one. What about you, Mikoto?”
“I don’t either. I mean, I’d like it if Kusuo asked me, but he’s into someone.”
“Ah, who’s Kusuo?” You grinned.
“This guy.” She points to the pink-haired boy. Saiki, was it?
“Ah.” God damn, he already has an admirer. And she’s way prettier.
But he’s into someone? Could it be this guy?
No, no way. He’s weird and kind of pervy. He’s been staring at that woman in line for ages.
“Anyway, Kusuo, would you like to say something?” Aiura nudged him.
Suspicious.
“I like your coffee jelly. A lot.” Saiki murmured.
“Thanks! It’s an old recipe from my mom. It was the first thing I learnt how to make.”
Usually, Saiki would’ve stopped someone or zoned out. He wouldn’t want to listen. But with her… he wanted to hear everything. Where she grew up, what she liked to do, if she’d like to go on a date with him.
Am I boring him?
“Not in the slightest. Keep going.”
Did he just read my mind? No, I must be imagining it.
“You know, Kusuo isn’t usually like this.” Aiura mentioned.
“Yeah! If I tried talking about my childhood to Saiki-san, he’d probably tell me to shut up before I could start. And if I kept going on, he’d slap me across the face. He must really like you.” Toritsuka smiled, albeit slightly weird.
“Well, I’m honored.” You lightly laugh in his direction. “Anyway, Saiki-kun, if you like my coffee jelly so much, I could teach you how to make it sometime.”
He looked puzzled. Was she asking me to come to her house?
“Oh wait-! Sorry, no- I- Only if you want to…” You flush.
That’s… nice. She’s pretty.
“I wouldn’t mind that.”
And for the first time in what seemed like forever, Saiki Kusuo was looking forward to meeting a girl.
And not just any girl, but the girl he liked.
