In the forest, all was quiet. It was the hour just before the sun rose, when everything was lit in blue. Calm.
Or, well, it would have been calm, if not for the person pacing in the middle of a lone clearing.
They raised their head as a yawn came from the trees, and someone else walked out.
“Aang, what took you so long?” Zuko asked, folding his arms. “I told you to be up by now!”
“It’s really early, though... Not even Toph made me get up this early for training!”
“Well, I’m not Toph.”
He only realized that his tone may have came off as harsh when Aang’s shoulders slumped slightly, and a small frown came over the young Avatar’s face.
“...listen, we need to get in as much training as possible. You need to master firebending before you face Ozai, so every moment counts.” He paused for a moment, looking down slightly as his mind got away from him, imagining everything that his father would do to Aang if he got captured.
“...I don’t want you facing him unprepared--” He added as he reined his thoughts back in, bringing himself back down to earth. “--and it’s my responsibility to make sure you are.”
Aang went quiet, nodding after a moment.
“...let’s start then.”

Vio paused in his note-taking, and the four brothers stared at her. Did she seriously not see how useful an ability like that would be?
After a beat or two of silence, Blue snorted, “Well, I dunno much about these Epithets, but that sounds pretty cool to me. I can count five times off the top of my head where being able to silence things would have saved us a lot of trouble...” The ‘and life-threatening injuries’ bit was left unsaid. She didn’t need to know about those hot messes.
Green piped up next, “If that’s not the coolest, then what is? ... Or at least, the coolest you’ve heard of?”
She looked around at them, a little embarrased. “I-- Well, I mean, I’ve met people with the Fragile epithet, and Barrier, and Smolder and Archive epithets, and--”
She hesitated, remembering what Giovanni had told her before about her epithet-- it was important to her, and it could be useful... even if she didn’t think it was cool.
“Well, um... I don’t think it’s very cool, but... I need it, I... I guess.”

Vio nodded as he quickly noted down everything the girl was saying.
“Oh... not magic then... Okay...” Red thought for a moment, then asked, “If it’s not rude to ask, what’s your Epithet?”
“Oh. Um... It’s Dumb.” She said, lowering her head a bit sheepishly. “--literally.” She tacked on. “I can simplify things and silence things around me.”
“It’s... not the coolest epithet.”

“Well then I guess we’re the exception to that rule, huh?” Blue muttered with an eye-roll.
Green gave him a glare, but didn’t argue against him. He was a little too curious about what was up with these “Epithets” and “Mundies” to remind Blue to not snap at people who were just trying to be helpful.
Red and Vio meanwhile looked very excited to learn about what sounded like a new form of magic (at least to them).
“Oh, oh! Are ‘Epithets’ a type of magic? What types of things do people use them for?”
“’Mundie’... is that short for ‘Mundane’? I’m assuming that it refers to someone without one of these ‘Epithet’s... what do you call someone who does have one?”
She decided to ignore Blue’s comment-- she was used to people being rude-- and instead focused on Red and Vio’s comments.
“They’re not really magic. They’re just... sort of a normal thing...? Most people have advantages from them, but it’s not like they’re something rare.”
“But-- yeah! Mundie is short for mundane-- and people with epithets-- like me-- are called inscribed!”

“A what?” Red blinked in confusion, “What’s an ‘Epithet’?”
The other three looked equally confused, though Vio’s expression had hints of excited curiosity as he pulled a pen out from his bag and began looking for a blank space to write on on their map.
“...y... you know. An Epithet!” She looked a little distressed that they didn’t know what an epithet was. “The words that some people have the ability to use? Like, um... Soup, o-or Budget, or Barrier...?”
“Everyone knows what epithets are, even Mundies...!”
She began to wonder just who these quadruplets were and where in the world Hyrule could be-- especially if they didn’t know what an Epithet was. It was pretty common knowledge, wasn’t it?

It was a very odd and confusing series of events that led to the four stumbling into the toy store. It was a normal ruin-exploring day, all the way up until they found a mysterious magic wand, got ambushed by monsters, and then there was a lot of yelling and fighting and somewhere in the mix something activated the wand and the brothers suddenly found themselves in a very bright and loud world that was definitely not Hyrule.
How to get back was the first question on their mind. Step one to solving that was figuring out where they were.
“Um, ‘scuse me, mam?” Green waved to the girl sitting behind the desk as the door swung shut behind their little group, “We’re kinda… lost. Could you tell us where we are?”
She blinked her eyes open from her half awake state, looking at the four.
“Oh! This is the Blyndeff Toy Emporium. You probably saw the sign though…”
“You’re probably talking about the city, though… This is Sweet Jazz City!”
“Do you guys need a map or something? I’m sure I could find one somewhere…!”
“A map would be great, thank you.” Green sighed with relief.
Vio pulled out his bag and started looking for the group’s own map. He had a hunch it wouldn’t be super helpful at the moment, but it would be good to have for comparison’s sake.
While the planing people of the group did their thing, Red took it upon himself to pull Blue over to the various display shelves so they could squee over all the adorable plushies together. Or, well, Red did the squeeing while Blue stood by and made sure he didn’t make too much of a mess in his excitement.
She rooted around behind the counter, and finally managed to pull out a dusty map. She shook it out, before popping back up from behind the countertop again.
“Here you go! Does this help at all?”
“Um…” Green and Vio both stared at the map’s unfamiliar criss-crossing lines and labels. They could gather from it that they were in a very large and very well-organized city, but as for where they were and where to go? No dice.
Still, the girl was very nice to help them, and one should always be polite, so Green smiled and said, “It helps a lot, thank you. Though… could we get the name of this street too?”
She leaned over the countertop to point out where they were. “You’re on Duncan street right now! The map should have most of the directions that you need.”
“I like your outfits, by the way…! Are you going to a convention or something?”
Green and Vio glanced at each other, “Uhhh-”
Before they could say anything else, Red skipped over and dropped four matching fox plushies onto the counter, “How much would these be, miss? Oh, also, I really like your hair, the stars are very cute!”
Her face brightened. “Oh! Thank you!”
“The foxes are… $7.99 each. So… four of them would be $31.96.”
Red blinked slowly, “… Would you be willing to accept Rupees or a favor instead?”
Molly sighed, slipping back into customer service mode.
“I’m really sorry, but we don’t accept favors as payment. We need the money.”
“…Also, um… what’s a rupee?” She asked, puzzled.
“This is a Rupee!” Red chirped as he pulled out a small pouch, then out of the pouch pulled a palm-sized hexagonal gemstone and placed it on the counter “This one’s a green, which is worth about..” He trailed off and looked to Vio expectantly.
“…What?”
“I dunno, don’t you usually know this kind of stuff?”
“Wha- Red I hadn’t even heard of this city’s currency until today. What makes you think I’d know its exchange rate with ours?”
“Fair enough, anyone else know?”
Green and Blue shook their heads.
“Eh, worth a shot,” Red sighed and looked back to the girl behind the counter, “Anyways, can we pay with it? I have more if it’s needed.”
She looked at the rupees, blinking.
“They are really pretty… but I still don’t think I can accept these.” She pushed them away.
“I don’t think these are exchangeable for money and I can’t sell you anything for any less than it already costs, otherwise we’d be making a loss…”
“…again, I’m really sorry.”
They seemed friendly enough to take it well; she just hoped she was right about that. She didn’t like dealing with unruly customers– and four at once? Well…
“Oh…” Red’s face fell as he took the rupees back, “It’s all right… do you want me to put the plushies back?”
Meanwhile, Green, Blue, and Vio were internally screaming as they realized not only were they lost with no idea about where to go or what to do next, they were also basically flat broke.
She almost felt a little bad, but she nodded. “I’m sorry… I’d give it to you, but we can’t give away things for free…”
She looked to the others, and noticed their poorly-masked panic– although she decided not to comment on it.
“…are you guys from another country or something?” She asked, trying to find out a little more about the quartet.
“Um… something like that?” Green squeaked, “We’re from Hyrule, if that helps at all…”
While Green was talking, Red glanced at his hands, then waved them towards the four plushies. Following the motion, they raised into the air (though not without a little wobbling). He moved his hands in the direction of the shelves where they had originally been sitting, and the fabric foxes drifted over and settled in the empty spot.
He sighed and wiped the sweat from his brow. “That… should not have been that hard.”
“Hyrule?” She frowned, thinking, before shaking her head. “I’ve never heard of any place like that.”

It was a normal ruin-exploring day, all the way up until they found a mysterious magic wand, got ambushed by monsters, and then there was a lot of yelling and fighting and somewhere in the mix something activated the wand and the brothers suddenly found themselves in a very bright and loud world that was definitely not Hyrule.
How to get back was the first question on their mind. Step one to solving that was figuring out where they were.
“Um, ‘scuse me, mam?” Green waved to the girl sitting behind the desk as the door swung shut behind their little group, “We’re kinda… lost. Could you tell us where we are?”
She blinked her eyes open from her half awake state, looking at the four.
“Oh! This is the Blyndeff Toy Emporium. You probably saw the sign though…”
“You’re probably talking about the city, though… This is Sweet Jazz City!”
“Do you guys need a map or something? I’m sure I could find one somewhere…!”
“A map would be great, thank you.” Green sighed with relief.
Vio pulled out his bag and started looking for the group’s own map. He had a hunch it wouldn’t be super helpful at the moment, but it would be good to have for comparison’s sake.
While the planing people of the group did their thing, Red took it upon himself to pull Blue over to the various display shelves so they could squee over all the adorable plushies together. Or, well, Red did the squeeing while Blue stood by and made sure he didn’t make too much of a mess in his excitement.
She rooted around behind the counter, and finally managed to pull out a dusty map. She shook it out, before popping back up from behind the countertop again.
“Here you go! Does this help at all?”
“Um…” Green and Vio both stared at the map’s unfamiliar criss-crossing lines and labels. They could gather from it that they were in a very large and very well-organized city, but as for where they were and where to go? No dice.
Still, the girl was very nice to help them, and one should always be polite, so Green smiled and said, “It helps a lot, thank you. Though… could we get the name of this street too?”
She leaned over the countertop to point out where they were. “You’re on Duncan street right now! The map should have most of the directions that you need.”
“I like your outfits, by the way...! Are you going to a convention or something?”
