business was always booming this time of year. while winter was another perfectly good example, there was something about summer and its sometimes scorching heat that made others less likely to question her oddity and instead eagerly jump on doing business when perishables weren’t ruined from traveling under the sun.
with stock sold out within a matter of only two weeks, fumiko went through the journey back. back to where? well of course her home. the only home she’s ever truly known. which might sound insane if said to others, because comparably to a tavern or anywhere else to board: it was overflowing with monsters. but fumiko didn’t mind that. really, most species or individual monsters of certain species, were far more humane than actual humans.
having made way through the standard entree floor that others bustled about, either leaving or exiting, fumi slipped away into the shadows that eventually led her away from the common shortsighted adventures. quickly sighing in relief at the cooler temperatures accompanied with vacant passageways and dark corners. speaking of, the further she went the more her intuition crept up to pinpoint the moment when she would need to bring out a lantern for light. even if she felt along the cool bricks in the pitch darkness, there was no guarantee there wasn’t a stray slime or something in the darkness to trip over.
so, having said that, as she plodded along and reached one hand to pull down her hood, while the other preoccupied itself with opening the bag beneath her cloak, the girl was far too gone in both thoughts where she went over a list of things needed, and busied physically. that she was a bit, just a smidge, a tad caught off guard at a certain exclamation.
not that such was terribly obvious.
fumiko froze in her tracks, hues almost icy in their gaze towards the sudden company, but all that quickly melted away after realizing who (or more accurately: what) was before her. “…baby?” it was a reflexive response more than anything. since, if one hears the word ‘mommy’ yelled, then its usually followed up with ‘baby’.
pulling out the lantern still alit from her past use, and shining it towards the taller one before she continued moving. “have you been well? i hope you didn’t miss me too terribly.” unable to hide the smirk accompanied by saying the latter.
“would you like to join me?” pulling out her handy dandy journal while speaking. already flipping through one-handedly to find the list she’d jotted.
IT RECOGNIZES HER IN A MOMENT--red hair or unrevealed; her mana is as distinctive as a certain that hovers about its lips. though, it cannot comprehend the exact meaning or tonality of her promptly surprised reply. the astonishment--that is palpable and it understands that perhaps it had come out of nowhere, a jumpscare, if you will.
it needs no light to see, but it tilts its head in a puppy-like manner, lips parted as long strands or purple cascade about their lithe figure.
❝ no, we have missed you terribly! ... most certainly, we will join you, ❞ the subtle curve of pink lips grows wider as it shuffles its way closer to her, swaying from side - to - side in playful manner as it leans to see the well - loved journal clutched within grasp. ❝ h u n t i n g ? ❞
it wishes to help : no more, no less.
