Laureline nodded her head, but in complete honesty she was not following at all. She didn’t know what in the world a ‘sleep scientist’ was, nor any of the statistics he spouted off afterwards. “Skip class? We can’t do that, we’d get in trouble if they caught us!” Lo never got in trouble, or at least not since after the accident. “I’ve never been to detention before… I heard that’s where all the bad kids go.”

“ You’ve seriously never been in detention before? That’s adorable. ”  Alex poked her on the shoulder, chuckling. “I promise it’s not as bad as the after school specials made it seem. You have to sit for an hour and they take your phone. Also, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. You’re only in trouble if you get caught. ”

“I was gonna skip class anyways, but if the sleep scientists are basically telling me to..” Jessie grinned, “now I have an excuse, at least.” She spared a quick glance at her watch, before fixing her gaze back on her newfound company. “What do you say we go grab some breakfast instead? I’m sure first period can wait until tomorrow.”

“ See, you’re a girl after my own heart. Everyone else is all ‘fuck off Alex!’ or  ‘I don’t want to get in trouble Alex!’ ” He sighed dramatically, leaning up against his locker. “ Gossip girl fucking lied to me! Private school kids are boring. Anyways breakfast! Where do you wanna go? My treat! ”

“Well our parents are paying, to put it in a classy way, a fuck ton of money for us to go here and go on to the Ivy’s, so sleep isn’t considered important,” Sophia glanced up from her locker with a furrowed brow, not sure how to regard the boy. “But sure, skip class. It won’t make a difference. Not at Lansdale anyways, this place hasn’t changed since the dark ages,” She muttered.

“ Well, that was dark as shit. ” Alex closed his own locker, a small frown creasing his face. “ Seriously - way to be a buzzkill. You gotta book full of cliche poetry in there? Because I gotta admit, that really gets me going. You should dye your hair black, get some eyeliner if you’re gonna spew deep nonsense this early in the morning. ”

“We can’t just… not go to class,” Weezie shook her head, looking up from the essay on biodiversity that she was editing. Surely he wasn’t serious. “Maybe instead you could write a strongly worded letter to the principal or to the board! Or start a petition!”

“ Oh, I forgot who I was talking to for a second. ” Alex shook his head, of course, Miss Goody Two shoes would suggest a strongly worded letter. “ You’re a senior and you’ve never skipped once? You gotta live a little, Weezie. I mean skipping is practically a rite of passage. Don’t you want the full high school experience? ”
