hello! sorry for disappearing for a few days !! i am taking a slight hiatus because i’m working on a competition piece for youmacon , and my main focus right now is tacking down a lot of things i need to hand sew / hand make – but i will be back when i return from my trip !!

they speak rarely ———— for good reason given the tension that ripples through his body at the mere sight of him and what he represents. and so he views his approach with heavy handed suspicion for all that he doubts any true harm will befall him right here and right now, given their setting and the fact that there’s no call for RETRIBUTION or otherwise. for now.
and he finds his eyebrow arching just so in response to the question / caught off guard to say the least / hand resting along the cross—guard of the blade. not honestly a threat ———— considering he often stands at rest like this. ❝ i purchased it from a merchant. ❞ a rather obvious answer if nothing else, but then : how else is he meant to answer such a question? with the whole of the harrowing tale?
a merchant , he says , and something in dedue bleeds red at the thought / the picking over of his family home from war - looters , perhaps ; plucked off the body of a duscur soldier , even. the tightening of his jaw speaks to it , the way the shadows pool in the hollows of his eyelids , the cut of his cheekbone. he is not sure what to say. what would be proper , or polite , or well - mannered the way it is expected of him --------- the way he must be , around them all.
not for the first time , these conversations feel so terribly unfair.
dedue’s skin prickles with the unpleasantness of it , the words forced rough & blunt from the tip of his tongue like a sword in dire need of a whetstone. ❛ the stamp , on the blade. ❜ he says. measured in its bluntness , eyes cast to the center of felix’s neck. ❛ it is my father’s. ❜

❝ you know many things about flowers , and . . . growing things . ❞ saoirse looks up , brushing a piece of silver - white hair from her eyes . ❝ do you know of any flowers that grow where it is considerably cold ? all year round ?❞ she looks back at the flowers and frowns , wonders if she ought to explain . ❝ there are no flowers in sreng .❞ hopefully that is explanation enough .

he knows of her --------- margrave gautier’s guest , shackled within his home ; political pawn in fractal - falls. he has no hatred for her. sympathy , alone / knows the weight of faerghus’s iron - handed way of settling a dispute firsthand , the same as himself. when he looks upon her it is without the guarded expression that he gives to most others , a softening around the eyes which does not meet his mouth. ❛ i do. ❜
saorise is right in thinking that he would not laugh at her. he knows what she means ; what she intends by asking. the same as he intends by sowing seeds of discordance in his corner of the greenhouse by planting duscurian daisy. ❛ there are many that grow in the cold. dogwood , hellebores , camellias . . . do you intend to plant any , when the season changes ? ❜

there is a peninsula on the tip of faerghus that speaks to the greed of men , duscur struck from their name , replaced wholeheartedly & without a hint of remorse as the lands of house kleiman ; a ruin gutted out and left to stand as a reminder of how little worth the world has to ambition , to the desire for dirt , or grass , or the honorary titles associate with owning it. dedue’s head dips low , mulling over the fire in the knight’s hall. his eyes neither flicker to dimitri nor does he even move , stony - eyed in the face of the statement , thoughtful for it.

EYES WATCH IN ANTICIPATION as he inspects their hard work thus far, his fingers inspecting each newly sprouted flower. they’ve got quite a ways to go before they’ve fully bloomed, but she trusts his judgement, happy that the flowers they planted together are growing as planned. ‘ Please, I’m happy to have helped. I think we’ve done a wonderful job thus far. ‘ it’s her turn to see them up close, getting down to her knees as gentle fingers brush one of the leafs. ‘ You’re very knowledgeable about the flowers, Dedue. I’m happy to see that they’re in good hands. ‘
her compliment warms him inside - out , like the spread of flames from a well - kept fireplace. his voice remains reservedly soft when he says , ❛ when i was learning to read and write , much of my time was spent reading over textbooks of plants . . . i learned much from their pages , and my mother and sister --------- ❜ that tone descends into silence , keening like a wind. he looks over the flowers , the edges of his face softening like wet clay.

‘ ah —— ‘ never has she felt such a prominent shiver run down her spine until now. & at the mention of a raccoon, no less. such a trivial matter to feel such unbridled dread at the mere mention of, yet here she stands; spine pulled taut, her back to dedue as he approaches with his inquiry.
the creak of her joins is practically audible as she stiffly turns on the heels of her feet, simper stretched across her visage in a way which simply exudes guilt. ‘ hahah. me ? a raccoon ? ‘ she makes a dismissive sort of noise, rush of air expelled through pursed lips, one hand waving through the air as if to simply brush the matter aside. ‘ like i would ever let a raccoon inside ! what, with their black, beady, cute little eyes & their … adorable paws with those itty bitty fingers. ——— i’d never dream of doing that !! ‘
dedue was no fool , and the guilt seemed obvious to him from the start / but her fear strikes in him a sort of pain , deep to the center of the heart. he was used to this. in faerghus , there was nowhere that he could walk without the disdain of others crashing down upon him ; here there was the slightest alleviation , a world removed from faerghus’s injustices . . . and still.
his face screws up , the lines of his scowl etching into familiar places on his skin. ❛ you have no reason to lie. were i to tell anyone , they would not believe what i say. my only desire in speaking this to you is to tell you that you have a responsibility to clean up after it . . . it is the least you can do. ❜
