#me when i go out to eat while travelling #every fucking meal is like 30 bucks and i HATE IT but it's the only way i can have a hot meal #i COULD eat 5 chips ahoy in my room and call it a meal or i could spend 30 bucks and eat something with some nutritional value to it #what a sucky tradeoff

for my money, the jagged crown is the funniest quest in skyrim because of how obvious it is that it absolutely fucking DEVOURED the devtime of the civil war quests. the way it's technically two entirely different quests that can both steal each other's endings is hilarious

#it's kind of stupid just how little actually impactful stuff is in civil war #it's like. jagged crown which is a... 2? 3? cell dungeon and branching paths #and then battle for whiterun which. while extremely fucking buggy is a big departure from anything else in the game and is ambitious #it's the only quest in the game that allows for actually impactful scenery changes in the city it takes place in #and then nothing. not even battle for solitude or windhelm has the same amount of effort as battle for whiterun #also basically every other quest i didn't mention is 'go clear fort' which is plain and boring #you would think the quest the whole fucking game's setting revolves around would have gotten a bit more effort but no #one of those many examples of ambition being cut short by effort #not to mention that there's basically no impact from actually resolving the quest other than almost entirely cosmetic leadership changes #elisif remaining jarl of solitude after a stormcloak victory is this quest in a microcosm #she remains jarl of a city that is ultimately undamaged by the ravages of a civil war which is only one hallway fight in game #i don't usually go stormcloak but man when i do it's so fucking stupid how little a civil upset actually matters in the narrative #i have Opinions about this

the wisdom ive learnt is that becoming part of a friend group 1) takes a long time and 2) involves a lot of feeling awkward and left out at first. there’s nothing terrible about this but if you grew up chronically lonely or have any kind of trauma relating to social isolation this likely feels Really Wrong and activates danger signals. but both fortunately and unfortunately it’s just how becoming close to new people works most of the time

another thing that was not intuitive to me as someone who grew up an autistic loner: basically everyone on the planet is starved for connection all the time and almost everything people do is an attempt to reach out to another. most seemingly illogical interactions and behaviours can be explained by this. you have to take as many of these invitations as you can. even if you're wrong you still attempted to bring more warmth into the world

Making new friends is fun because it's like. How often do I message this person out of the blue. I can cold call my existing besties any hour of the day and they will love me and respond when they can but this new person... Do I do once a week or what.
