Twist Theory Part Two : ?
Crowley = Raven or sometimes 'Crow' from Snow White, (Although once I have seen Raven referred to as 'Beezlebeak' in a comic where he kidnaps Timothy Q. Mouse, yes, the moues from Dumbo this IS Disney)
First Reason I think so,
The Twist Guide has references to BOTH 'Raven' and Diablo SEPARATELY from each other 'Raven Is Grimhilde's Familar', wherein 'Diablo is Maleficent Companion and 'He's also second-in-command, having control over her goons, along with her.' ; and traditionally the way you tell 'Diablo from Raven'
Is how 'useless' one is. With Raven being NOTICEABLY 'USELESS AND SILLY'.
Now , unlike Diablo, 'Raven' has not been featured in a lot of cartoons, or modern media And he is not often paired with dolls or figures of Grimhilde, infact merchandise of 'Raven' is notoriously rare; HOWEVER Raven is almost ALWAYS featured with a 'Skull' and often with 'spell books' due to the commonly accepted theory Joe Grant knew the work of Wilhelm Busch, and it is likely that he was inspired by an 1894 Busch illustration of a raven perched on a skull.
It is also important to remember that Raven is technically the OLDEST Disney 'Familar' and sidekick, which would make a GREAT deal of sense for him to be the headmaster- his character design being attributed to a 1894 drawing even predates the 1937 release or even any concept art for the 'Disney' Snow White.
This partially deleted scene from Snow White,
- Now Raven IS almost 100 years old or OLDER as a character depending how you look at it, even older than Diablo who is first 'viewed' in 1959. This DOES make finding information on Raven extremely difficult, as most of what there was on him as a 'character' is NOT seen in the animated film, but it was when Disney re-imagined him as a 'talking raven' in some of the serial comics that ran in the 60s and 70s
Where he is a MENACE TO SOCIETY until they trick the Queen into taking him back, quiet literally- by the throat.
The Raven often thinks persons should be 'grateful' or 'gracious' for his .... hard... efforts that destroy your life (sound familar) because again, hes notoriously useless.
Again, Diablo or 'Diaval'; is Maleficent' second in command or general, either 'finds or cares for' Aurora, is notoriously competent, V A I N about his appearance as a bird, even insulted when Maleficent changes him into a man,
- I think a great deal of persons are focusing on the 'feather element' of Diaval's outfit from Aurora's wedding in relation to Crowley's design without looking at other 'design elements' behind him being a ...scavenger, character relationships in source media, or even his behaviors and intereactions with the other characters that would be involved.
The last thing I wanted to mention other than the sheer argument that 'Crowley is neither competent nor loyal enough to be Diablo' is some of the other design elements, character associations, symbology you see in 'Grimhilde' 'Crowley', and 'Raven'.
First is the color pallet: Deep purples and golds, with burgundy or red accents, and a cape or cloak that is lined with color but backed with black.
- Mirrors. M I R R O R S. Crowley literally has mirrors within his design on his clothing, hat and hes the headmaster. Now IF you read the Chip and Dale comic from 1978 earlier; you would NOTE that Grimhilde through 'Raven' out of her hut, for messing with her magic. Mirror.
- The Skull mask: as I meantioned 'Raven' unlike Diablo is ALWAYS associated with 'Skulls' due to the 1894 inspiration used in the original concept art. In many of the shots from 1937 you often see Raven perched on top of and hiding in or behind the skull peering out with his luminous yellow eyes.
- It would not make sense for twist to have refrenced both Diablo and Raven SEPARATELY in the guides if someone didn't know there were two different birds. And considering this is DISNEY, they most likely have access to some of the more difficult to find comics of Raven talking and outright TERRORIZING other Disney characters because he has magic.
Now I won't reveal what the text SAYS because this is spoilers from Crowleys vinegettes, and some of y'all are playing ik English
But hes making apple refrences.
Twisted Wonderland Theories part one : ?
FYI this is very spoiler heavy and there will be an update throughout the next few days with more information, pictures, Disney refrences and some fairy mythology
Im fairly certian
-Crowley is Raven from 'Snow White'
-Lilia is Diablo/'The Liliac/GoodFairy' of classic Sleeping Beauty-
- Levan and Meleanor are 'Hermia and Lysander' from the Maleficent Novels/The Angelina Jolie movie (Based on Characters from a 'Midsummer Nights Dream)
Evidence
In the novel Maleficents parents are named after two characters from *A Midsummers Night Dream*,
Lysander and Hermia
- Im pretty sure lysander = Levan
- Hermia = Meleanor
They get married against the wishes of Hermias parents in a midsummers night dream, but the two from the novel, they're killed in the human fairy war when shes a child leaving *maleficent* orphaned, and In a Midsummers Nights Dream- Hermia and Lysander are in an awkward 'Love triangle' with Demetrius- whom loves *Hermia* But she does not love him. This would make sense with the 'Love Triangle' between Lilia, Levan and Meleanor
And onto why I think Lilia is Diablo/The Lilac Fairy
Quote 'The role of The Lilac Fairy is so iconic because she is the good fairy that protects Aurora from a curse by the evil Carabosse! Families will enjoy experiencing the story of the well-known princess Aurora come to life as she conquers the curse given to her by the evil Carabosse;'
..... Y'all see where I'm going with this?
Carabosse is represented by 'Disney' as Maleficent, however let us turn to the gothic version of Sleeping Beauty and the 'Vampiric incarnation' ... Lord or Count Lilac
Lord Lilac *a VAMPIRE* type fairy who saves Aurora in the ballet by Micheal Bourne, which is an absolutely beautiful 'horroresque' interpretation of the classic story.
Now in the Angelina Jolie version, the 3 good faeires absolutely are *horrid* at raising Aurora so Diaval and Maleficent do, noticeably and most IMPORTANTLY Diaval acts first AGAINST Maleficent worried she will starve by giving her 'milkflowers'; often playing with, and protecting her or alerting Maleficent to protect her during her youth, Similar to the relationship Lilia has with Silver and Malleus.
I keep seeing posting about 'Levan = Diablo'
Diablo = Crowley
I, as an overall sleeping beauty and maleficent fan from the like 4 different Ballets to the version from 700 years ago
Will throw some other ideas out at you
The 'Mistress of All Evil' came out juuust before Twist in 2019, and The Magical Archives mentions the live action movies in as well.
So.
🙏 This, Is 'Udo' a 'Tundra' or Ice Fairy from Mistress of evil. Who is played by the 2000s Jrock Star 'Miyavi' . He was notoriously good with children- he actually interacted with a lot of children on set who were afraid of older actors in some of the armor, horns, amd spfx makeup, and he ended up being extremely good friends with Angelina Jolie afterwards-
And an Ice fairy of the same 'species' as Maleficent-
I know a LOT of younger TWST fans might not have heard of Miyavi depending on where they are from- But considering how Influential he is in Japan to the Alt Music Scene it wouldnt be beyong the possibility of Yana being inspired by him; especially with how consistent the 'Maleficent' Franchise is
Levan could TECHNICALLY also be inspired by 'Udo', or Chernabog who the 1959' Maleficent Dated in Disneys house of mouse- BUT.
Have fun with the jrock star hes adorable,
His whole family, wife and children cosplayed the main 'Characters' for Halloween one year, and its 'Implied' -
Udo Killed Philips mother in the live action~ during the fairy human war sooooo theres also that nugget and potential parallel
Got given the worst idea ever
Conspiracy Theory warning!
First it was Grim's Malleus' creation because they have the exact same elements for the exact same outfit category cards... And now Crowley is Malleus' father because Crowley resembles Maleficent's raven Diablo and the newly revealed Levan (Malleus' actual father) is actually based on Diablo...
AND LEVAN WAS NEVER SAID TO HAVE DIED!! HE JUST DISAPPEARED AND WAS NEVER FOUND AGAIN! THERE WASN'T ANY CORPSE SO IT'S HIGHLY POSSIBLE HE'S ALIVE OMFG 😭🙏
There's so many fanfics out there who make Crowley nicer and basically adopt Yuu, and now you're telling me Crowley might actually be Yuu's father-in-law I'M GOING INSANE
(BTW Malleus' dad is NOT confirmed to be a dragon. His title includes the kanji for dragon, but it might be a symbol of being a direct Draconia subordinate.)
Malleus when he finds out the dad everyone's been looking for all these years is Dire Crowley
ALLOW ME TO PRESENT THE CROW VS DIABLO THERORY-
SO.
Everyone Knows Diablo, Hes ICONIC- Hes capable, Hes maleficents sidekick-
He is neither the only nor the oldest corvid villan sidekick. THAT Award. Goes to 'Raven : Queen Grimhilde's Pet Raven from Snow White.
WHO. Unlike Diablo.
Is a silly fking sheit. And fundementally useless. He just flaps round, reminding you he's there and occasionally screaming/cawing.
Raven was also featured in the strip comics, often fighting- harassing or even interfering with Queen Grimhilde's potions and plans- often being a hindrance more often than a help-
Specifically often messing with the magic mirror-
Vs Diablo/Diaval
Who serves as Maleficents wings in MULTIPLE ways- be it his live action/book/ incarnation that serves along side her in multiple ways, Maleficent sees Diablo as her confidante and he is the only thing she cares for- even as Diaval- hes INCREDIBLY intelligent- often doing tasks Maleficent herself cannot as a way to repay her for saving HIS life from humans-
Point Im trying to make-
Is there are TWO Raven Sidekicks in the OG disney universe- 'Raven and Diablo' - one is a Silly Shiet who is constantly getting into trouble he either causes himself and refuses to take action for - and he attracts like a magnet and is often seen with characters like chip and dale-
The other one is turned INTO the dragon in the live action movie INSTEAD of Maleficent to save *her* because she knows he can- also he retains some of his Ravens feathers in this form which is cool af
Tell us queen... How does the second place medal feel on your neck?
So while I NORMALLY use a wig for cosplay- Im going to be working the Michigan Ren fair as a 'fairy' - and because I myself am a 'alt Military veteran IRL'- AND Im an obnoxious celtic fairy folklore and history nut;
I decided for the season, Imma cut and color my hair Like Peepaws 'general' and get some extensions as some point- so it's not as hot as a wig in AUGUST in the forest lol, and Im going to make my 'Ren Faire' outfit inspired by the stuff he would have worn in 'that time period' with a splash of an ode to Diasomnia lol. Its all for fun-
But I am infact looking forward to screaming about kilts in the woods dressed as part of Diafam for the summer 🤣🦇🦇 Its been a while since Ive have time to really cosplay and Im going to try and next year make larp quality/FUNCTIONAL armor for Lilia based on his general outfit. Because Fk it rennie time and He works PERFECTLY for Ren Faire 🤣🦇🦇 and im looking forward to TORMENTING everyone else with military candances and folk songs alllll summer.
My friend took me last minute to see Melanie Martinez last week and since the theme is faee and fairys... I may or may not have done a VERY VERY casual lol Malleus; (Didnt even use contacts or my wig, literally threw my horns on my head with fangs and ears) technically its part of my ren fair version because Lol, im a Rennie but the actual twst uniforms are WAYYYY TO HOT to wear outside in the sumer all day. So if you see a Malleus Cosplayer WORKING at the michigan Ren Fair- feel free to say hi!
Lol I only had 30 minutes vs 3 hours and the DIFFERENCE IT MAKES WITHOUT CONTACTS... but I do like my new horns better lol. I JUST PACKED THAT GREEN EYESHADOW IN THERE. NO TEST RUN 🤣 I LOOKED BETTER MY FIRST TRIAL RUN MINUS THE MONDO HORNS BUT LOL I HAD FUN
Regarding misinformation about TWST Anime
Now, I've seen people excited with the D-23 thing and some of them have been asking about Twisted Wonderland Anime. So I'm here to clear some things.
First of all, the Twisted Wonderland franchise is under the direction of Disney Japan (very, very different to Disney USA), ANIPLEX and Yana Toboso, who is in charge of the Character Design department and some of the stories (so said by herself in a recent interview). Which means even if they were to announce something about the animation, Disney North America has no authorisation to spread those news because they'd be facing legal issues with Japanese companies due to not having the ownership of the game, only partial, which comprehends the inspiration for the Characters and its relationship with classical Disney Villains.
Second, I've seen people saying "but they released a poster--".
Yes, ANIPLEX officially released a poster in March. It was an art featuring the Seven Dorm Leaders wearing their Ceremonial Robes. It was made to sponsor the 2nd Anniversary event and as a slight spoiler to the update we have now where you can put on and off the hoodie of the characters in this precise card set (Ceremonial Robes).
Third: the release date. "They said they'd release the Anime in early 2023".
No, they didn't. They said in the panel for Anniversary that they'd release some news on it in Spring 2023, as well as they said they still hadn't chosen which studio they'd be working with to make the animation neither they've chosen the Seiyuu cast for it —meaning we don't know if our beloved characters will keep their original voices or will be re-casted ONLY FOR ANIME.
The tentative here was that Yana-sense and Aniplex will work together on it as they've had previously done (Kuroshitsuji). But there are no official news yet.
Please, people, avoid spreading fake news in this matter because you won't only cause trouble for the fandom but you can even get to the point of causing an incident as the one we recently had surrounding Yana and her team.
This goes specifically directed to the North American fandom. Why? Because those people are the ones I've seen writing lies in social media about it.
And if you're in JP fandom and follow this "let's lie to put pressure" game, please stop.
The best part of this event was Malleus and Lilia’s banter. I just love it so much and they are having so much fun. I wish they are always happy 💕💚
Also Malleus’s “you need a rocking chair” lmfaoo 😂😂
