The basic lore of the canon selfship is...
- I move to Hawkins, Indiana prior to S1 and end up living near the Byers family. While Jonathan and I are not particularly close, we know of each other and I babysit Will on rare occasions throughout S2. I have weird feelings about Jonathan that are vaguely romantic but when Jonathan and Nancy start dating I start feeling awkward and avoid ever being near Jonathan. Jonathan has a mild crush on me, primarily built around seeing me and Will interact positively and seeing how I get along with other young people in town. But this never amounts to anything especially as Jonathan and Nancy start dating.
- Chrissy and I meet and form a friendship in S2 after I help her avoid Billy being a general pain in the ass and creep and we form the traditional sapphic homoerotic high school friendship. But it's the 80s so there's even more tension and less communication.
- I move away from Hawkins at the end of S3 and thus miss all of S4 and S5. In this scenario both Chrissy and Eddie survive, obviously, though admittedly I haven't worked out the why and how yet.
- Jonathan moves to New York for college and eventually Argyle moves in with him, as they still remain best friends. Jonathan and I meet at NYU and don't recognize each other at first, we end up becoming casual friends, realize where we know each other and hit it off. Except Jonathan develops a crush and then realizes I'm a lesbian and panics and tries to ignore this crush.
- Jonathan ends up in lots of queer spaces as my friend and ends up realizing some things... and BAM! Jonathan realizes she's trans fem and she comes out to me and not long after this I admit I have a crush on her and we start dating.
- Argyle meanwhile is getting to know me and finds me cute and has always found Jonathan rather cute too, but Argyle isn't here to homewreck so he doesn't say anything. But we all blend together as a unit over time until eventually Argyle admits to having a crush on both me and Jonathan and we form a triad.
- It turns out Eddie and Chrissy have moved to New York as well, not really connected to anyone else, and have started living together. Chrissy has realized she's a lesbian and Eddie knows for a fact he's queer in some way. One day Jonathan enters the record store Eddie works at and they recognize each other and begin to form a friendship.
- Eddie ends up constantly at Jonathan and Argyle's place, with me often tagging along too and the four of us form a friend group that starts becoming somewhat romantic tinged. Eddie realizes he has three separate crushes and isn't sure what to do but Argyle has also clocked this and isn't afraid to be up front so then the triad absorbs Eddie and we end up with four.
- Eddie starts inviting Chrissy to group hang-outs because they're best friends and she deserves to meet her best friend's partners. But oh no, she starts crushing and to begin with she had a latent crush on Eddie that became way too obvious as Eddie realized she's trans fem (after talking to Jonathan often enough) and started transitioning. So Chrissy has numerous crushes and Argyle can sense this and starts playing wingman to everyone until Chrissy becomes the final member of the polycule.
