Reminder:
LRADs, a sound-producing device used to control crowds, can inflict permanent damage on subjects
[ID 1: A screenshot of a Facebook post by Grouchy Socialists Rides Again. The post reads "ICE is deploying LRADs at their raids. Bring hearing protection to all actions! Ear plugs fit in your pocket, ear muffs fit in a bag. Pair them together for even better protection." There is a photo below of a Homeland Security Investigations truck with a long range acoustic device (or LRAD) on top, which is circled with red to draw attention to it. Two soldiers stand in front of the car and hold guns.
ID 2: A screenshot of a Facebook post that goes over two screenshots due to length by Leftist Lt Dan that reads:
"**UPDATE** for anyone worried about inner ear plugs being ineffective or harmful in this instance JASA (see comments for sources) found that LRADs primarily cause damage via air conduction, not bone conduction, at operational distances. Studies have found that inner and over ear protection together are the most effective method of protecting your hearing.
LRADs stands for Long Range Acoustic Device and emits ear piercing sounds and is sometimes used in crowd control. Thanks to Grouchy Socialists Rides Again for sharing this info for communities currently protesting [ice cube emoji].
Here's some info to protect your hearing, share this information whenever possible, and I would suggest those who can carrying extra hearing protection in case someone around you needs it. Coordinate on site resistance measures whenever possible.
Personal Protection Measures:
Hearing Protection:
High-grade earplugs: Industrial or earplugs with a high Noise Reduction Rating (NRR 33+) are recommended.
Noise-cancelling earmuffs: Wearing these in addition to earplugs provides extra protection.
Improvised ear protection: If proper equipment is unavailable, use foam, cloth, or wax based earplugs.
Covering your ears: While less effective than earplugs, firmly blocking your ears with your hands can reduce sound by 20-30 dB, but may not be enough to prevent injury from very loud sounds.
Breaking Line of Sight:
Obstacles: LRADs are directional, so sound waves can be blocked or reflected by buildings, vehicles, or solid objects.
Positioning: Position yourself behind solid barriers.
Movement: If you're moving, zigzag or change direction to avoid staying in the direct path of the LRAD beam.
Getting out of range: Distance is the best". /end ID]
