this is the most important part of that essay i wrote in the tags on that last post. remus and roman are infinitely more similar than either of them like to admit; roman because he doesn't want to be seen as the evil twin, and remus because to be like roman is to not be allowed the creative freedom he currently has and wants to keep. but their methods of hiding things are exactly the same.

remus hides his intelligence behind this act of being loud and obnoxious, because if you're loud enough, people won't look closer. this allows him to scheme and implement plans and no one is any wiser because lmao remus? smart? you're kidding right? and that is how he operates. he operates under the assumption that no one is looking deeper at him. no one is going to look at remus and think he's the mastermind behind anything. it is a method of deception, almost certainly learned from janus.

roman hides his insecurities behind this act of being loud and obnoxious, because if you're loud enough, people won't look closer. he can hide how he's feeling behind a smile, a laugh, a song, and he does. he's an actor, for god's sake. we've seen roman drop the act a few times, most notably in redux, because his feelings were just too strong to hide behind some bravado. before all of this stuff with janus and remus coming out of the woodworks, no one was going to look at him closer. all he had to do was play the role and he could continue to mask how he's feeling. it is a method of self preservation, because he doesn't feel his real feelings matter in the long run.

the twins use the same methods in order to get different results, and it's so interesting to me to see how similar they really are.

okay, can we talk about how smart remus genuinely is?

his ingenuity is absolutely incredible. he’s able to create entire fucking rube goldberg machines with little to no effort. he’s able to calculate exactly what he wants to happen and how to make it happen, even if it fails in the end.

remus acts silly, but he’s so smart. his final words to logan were “but who do you really want to scream that at?” he knows he’s been pushing logan’s buttons. he knows logan gets ignored and disregarded. he’s so perceptive, and this episode really shows it. fantastic writing and fantastic development.
