hi there! long time again with no posting. i’m so sorry about that! the problem i have with this blog is that it was created using a totally separate email address (stupid of me, i know), so i would have to log back in and out from this and my main blog. as of right now i know no good way of transferring my blog stuff here over there, so i’ve considered remaking the blog completely :( it’s something i really don’t want to do, because i spent a lot of time collecting content for this blog, but i want to get back to regularly blogging about space again and it would be easier to do from my main account, especially since i now primarily post from mobile.

what i’m thinking of doing is leaving this blog as-is, changing the url, and then reopening rickhusband as a blog off my main account where i’ll start fresh. i’ll link back to this one so you can still see and reblog any of the content i already have here. :)

i will notify you guys of the change when it happens! i’m so sorry about the inactivity but hopefully that will change sometime soon <33

i also found it quite hilarious that my current follower count sits at 106. one more and y’all would have hit my lucky number, haha.

man I just love everything about this picture. Look at Rick just grinning like a proud papa as he listens to Ilan speak. You can read so many stories and hear folks talk about how this crew truly felt like and treated each other like a family, and it’s so evident even in these photographs. That look on Rick’s face says volumes - he just loves these guys so much and believes in them with his whole heart and is so excited to be able to share this journey with them.

Former NASA astronaut Paul Lockhart, an Amarillo native, clearly remembers switching television news coverage of the disintegration of the space shuttle Columbia on Feb. 1, 2003, to Saturday morning cartoons to shield his young children from the disaster.

“That’s when the phone calls started coming in,” Lockhart said, describing the careening pace as the space agency tried to organize itself to handle the tragedy.

Ten years ago, the Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated upon re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere. All seven crew members onboard STS-107 died as their orbiter fell apart, piece by piece. While NASA suspected some damage may have occurred during their liftoff, they determined that there was nothing they could’ve done to prevent any of this from happening. This is a song for today.

The Space Shuttle Columbia and its seven member crew were lost 10 years ago, on February 1, 2003.

The space shuttle orbiter Columbia is launched for the first space transportation system test mission, 04/12/1981

Flowers and homemade signs are placed at the front gate of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Ames Research Center at Moffett Federal Airfield (MFA), Mountain View, California (CA) in a spontaneous memorial for the Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-107) astronauts. 

The remains of an American Astronaut are carried by the Barksdale Air Force Base (AFB), Louisiana (LA) Honor Guard to a waiting C-141 Starlifter for transfer to Dover AFB, Delaware (DE).
