"Then that would make both of us the original Dipper. With the clear difference of me being a ghost right now. So… maybe one of us is from a different point in time? That would make sense, right?"
"But if one of us was from the past slash future, the future me would remember this event, right? Even just vaguely. Perhaps it's a... multi-dimensional thing?"
"Oh uh, right. Fables, not real." Either this lady was a non-believer, or she was just wording things oddly.
"You know, thinking about it, I’ve never seen anything about her in the journal. I’m actually starting to think that she’s not even real at this point, I just can’t find anything that could prove her existance…"
"Uh. No, Fables, real," she corrected. Why did he-oh. Right. ‘Fable’ meant fictitious to Mundies. As he went on to state that he suspected she didn’t exist before her, unaware of who she truly was, Mary snorted, amused by the irony.
"Oh, she’s real, kid. Even if she’s not in there-" she reached forward and tapped a finger on the book with an unsettling smile, "-she’s real."
"... I don't think we have the same definition for fable." He said, frowning slightly. "Fable means story, like a made up fairy tale."
"Wait, what? You say that like you've met her or something..."
Dipper hesitated. Did he really trust this woman enough? She seemed normal enough, and sounded nothing like Bill…
"Alright, but just… Try not to damage it." He said, holding it out.
Mary took the book, and, holding the spine in one palm, she opened it and balanced it there, turning the pages slowly with her free hand. Zombies, ghosts…gnomes? Ugh. The less said about gnomes, the better…they seemed to have some creepy infatuation issues, and she’d known a few in her time that she’d care to forget. Closing the tome, she held it out to Dipper again.
"You’ve got quite the collection of Fables there, kid." she said. "Hey, I don’t suppose you’ve had any encounters with ‘Bloody Mary’? You know, say her name in the mirror, she appears…" She trailed off, nonchalantly burying her hands in her pockets.
"Oh uh, right. Fables, not real." Either this lady was a non-believer, or she was just wording things oddly.

"Huh." The book looked old too, providing a feel of genuineness; it didn’t look like something bought from a store and scribbled in by the kid in crayon. "Mind if I take a look?"
