mcd generoth will forever be famous to me because they are like. probably two of the least likely characters people would pair together. but i think their story beats are comparable in some ways and it drives me insane to think about

they're both head guards who betray their village because they're ""in love"" with a woman (a very loose way to describe both of their stories, but go with it). the difference is that gene believed he was entitled to her love whereas garroth thought he was beneath it, but they both spiralled and caused irreversible damage to their villages and the people around them

i think gene would see this as a way to mess with garroth's head—convince him they're soo similar, wear garroth down slowly until he starts to think maybe he's right. they are similar, in all the worst ways. but gene tells garroth he's worse because at least he left people alive and relatively unscathed compared to garroth who ruined the lives of everyone he knew

but when it comes down to it the two of them are fundamentally different. gene is selfish and self-indulgent, and garroth would drop dead if it meant helping others. these two involved with one another would probably ruin both of them in completely opposite ways,,
