Operation GC: success.
On Sunday night we arrived and camped at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. That night, we woke up at 2:30 a.m., packed up the truck, then started our backpacking endeavor down into the canyon. We started early, because temperatures during the day can reach 125 degrees, making it impossible to hike. We hiked Bright Angel Trail ten miles to Bright Angel campground at Phantom Ranch, where we laid low for the rest of the day until dinner. We ate at 5:30 p.m., then at 6:30 p.m. we started the ten mile trek back out of the canyon. After five and a half hours of uphill hiking and plenty of rain, thunder, and lightning, we achieved victory in the battle against the Grand Canyon, and backpacking in general.
We arrived eagerly at the Tundra by 12:20 a.m., and after ditching our wet clothes and loading our backpacks into the truck bed, we rolled out of the Park and began the long journey east towards Dallas.
Today we left Bryce and drove through Capital Reef National Park. After Capital Reef, we went to Canyonlands National Park where we took in a variety of some of the country’s best canyons. Lastly, we visited Arches National Park, where we hiked to Delicate Arch.
After leaving Zion yesterday, we headed to Bryce Canyon National Park where we did some sightseeing and eventually camped out. In Bryce we saw Sunrise and Sunset Points, the Park’s two main attractions.
