Hi Cliff! Question: I have minor localized vulvodynia. It's fine when I sit/move, but if I insert something into my vagina (fingers, tampon, dick), there's a sharp stinging pain at the very bottom of my opening, where there's a short, thick flap of skin with a raw spot less than 1 cm sq. Intercourse hurts /every time/. My partner doesn't want to hurt me so we mostly don't fuck that way, but I miss it a lot. I've tried lube + lots of foreplay & they don't help (lube makes it worse, it stings) 1/?

Vulvodynia 2/2 – The last time I tried to talk to a gyn about this (several years ago) she told me my boyfriend probably wasn’t going down on me enough, and I haven’t tried to seek help again. Is there anything I can do about this? Can they just numb that spot somehow? Who do I talk to? Thanks for your time.

Go to a different gynecologist. That one didn’t know what she was talking about; pain in one specific spot like that is unlikely to be a foreplay issue. You might have a cyst or something at that spot, or a bit of extra hymen that can be removed with a simple procedure, or a fissured fourchette.

Another thing that could be is a sore or ulcer from a low-level yeast infection that keeps getting torn or irritated during sex. This happened to me with a certain partner and some prescription strength hydrocortisone helped to quell the irritation.
