Re-Reintruduction!

It’s been quite a while since I started this writerblr thing, huh? So welcome to round 2!

I’m E.K., sometimes I write stuff, sometimes I draw stuff, sometimes I do both. I also quite regularly translate stuff from English to German, some might say I even study this particular craft (I’m not very eloquent translating from German to English, but eh, if I need to, I’ll do that too).

Fun fact: All of my stories are written in German. I’m here to exchange ideas and snippets with others, something I’ve enjoyed a lot some years ago when I first joined the writerblr community!

My current projects are:

Dawn, a fantasy duology i’ve been working on for 10 years now. Its roots are in the high fantasy genre but there are also elements of sci-fi technology. The main conflict takes place between the Light and the Dark Folk (classic, i know), with a rebellion on the brink of war and the main character stuck in a web of intrigue and power. Its worldbuilding is quite strange, with a straight up human-sized fairy as the main character, six-legged animals, and lots and lots of deserts.

Park, a visual novella about a non-binary student trying to reconnect with an old childhood friend. Locked up in their small flat, Park seems to be quite content with their life. That is until the miniature city they are building on the floor of their bedroom suddenly comes to life and tries to communicate with them...

Too many I know, give more than asked and run themselves ragged.

I know you want to be good and kind to others and show your skills. But please don't. It just leads to more work because people think you can handle it, or uses you. If you can perform 100% of what is asked with 70% of your energy, do that and save the 30% for yourself.

Personally I've never been a fan of the "magic is a beast that needs to be tamed" metaphor. Magic is more like the ocean: powerful, terrifying, capable of unbridled force. But at the same time, it is gentle, warm, the lifeblood of millions of people. The folk who know the ocean know you cannot harness it's force, you must work within or around it, lest it destroy you. Similarly, magic is great and terrible and gentle and kind, all at once. And those who work with it need to work WITH it, not reign over it. Because the primordial forces have no rules about biting the hand that feeds you.

like. characters whose entire self worth is based on how useful they can be to others, who think that they're going to be abandoned as soon as they're no longer necessary, being told by someone that they want them to stay and realizing that they have value to people in and of themselves and not just for what they can do for them will never fail to completely unmake me. like on a molecular level.
