I like making zines and I read a lot of books and I (try) to watch a lot of films and I love music and I sometimes make crafts and I'm a wh*re for libraries.

fav album: abandoned luncheonette - hall & oates

no live music gigs this month (everyone say boooo to uni) but towards the end of the month, i chewed through hall & oates discography. im up to 'voices' but hopefully i get through the rest. what's been most surprising to me is their most popular songs are the ones that sound the least like them. they a lot of funk and soul infusion which caught me off guard considering i only really knew their pop songs. great musicians though, and oates' moustache should be trademarked.

I'm back with a new zine! It's an essay about the current state of the music industry, the importance of community and independent local art through the lens of war.

This project has been in the works for a couple of months and has been on my mind for even longer, I really hope you like it!

I have had 'the dress' on REPEAT for this whole month. It is the best song ever and never ceases to amaze me no matter how much I listen.

I also got to see the lambrini girls live!! it was so awesome and they have such a wonderful stage presence. probably top 5 gigs i've been to!!

Katabasis - R. F. Kuang

This was my first R. F. Kuang book that I have managed to get around to reading. I hadn't heard much about the book before reading it so I was a little unmoored when I started as I couldn't figure out what kind of book it was. I struggled to separate the expectations I had from what the book was telling me. But, once I got over that, I had a great time!!

There were some parts I thought dragged and others I think will haunt me for ages. Kuang has an uncanny ability to articulate thoughts you may have had but never could properly explain in tangible form. It happened so often throughout the book that I just accepted that my brain was being examined.

I guess, I can understand some of the critiques on this novel. I still believe it's treated more harshly because Kuang is not white but, I digress. It wasn't the best book or the most important but it was entertaining and intriguing. It does exactly what it says it will in the title. The protagonists journey to Hell.

it flaws me how much amazing music there is around here. both of these artists are acts id love to see live without a doubt this year.

i did finally get to go to a live music gig this year. The Last Dinner Party played Sidney Myer and it was such a wonderful evening. definitely the most entertaining encore ive seen in a while. thankfully ive got Laneway lined up this month and will hopefully get to see more live shows soon!!

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands

I fear I am obsessed with the series. I quite literally am chomping at the bit to read the last book as devastated as I am about the concept of being finished.

It's just such a warm series and the characters are sensational. It's such a fuzzy romance without all the explicit details (which is not a criticism of erotic fantasy, it's just sometimes I like not having that).

I love the world and lore it incorporates into its story, I love the footnotes and especially love how the FMC adores her pet. Idk it's just refreshing to see a FMC care for a being that authentically.

When you learn how to crochet/ knit or really any type of fiber arts, there will be a voice in your head that tells you that you should make something for everyone for the holidays.

Do not listen to that voice, for it is the devil.

big Aussie music month for me as i was really into MUNGMUNG latest release as well (Fēi). i was also listening to peach prc and aleksiah (obvs) alot because it's summer and i love a pop girly moment.

now that the crazy days are behind me now. i may be able to actually start going to gigs again and get back to live music again. ive missed youuuuuu.

aleksiah is back and heavy on my rotation for sure!! it's just a ridiculously good pop song and her aura/energy is so beautiful. i really hope i get to see her live one day.

again. i didn't get to go to any live gigs which was sad but i did have a hyperfixation on 90s music so that was fun!!

american psycho: bret easton ellis

I'm finally getting around to reading this classic - as it's one of my most liked films. I'm curious to see if I still enjoy the story since obviously the film was directed by a woman and the book was not written by one.

I'm not stupid - it's literally a book about a psychopath - so im not going to be suddenly offended when women are treated badly but more so, wonder if Mary Harron added any nuance not present in the original.
