ok but why does it look so much like the overlook hotel
the scenes of dani confronting christian when he didnāt tell her about the trip vs josh confronting christian when heās trying to steal his thesis idea are very telling
dani knows that christian treats her badly. she knows exactly what heās doing when he gaslights her. but the difference between dani and josh is that josh has the luxury of not suppressing his anger at christian. dani makes herself small and amicable for christian because a. women are taught that theyāre not allowed to be angry and b. dani feels that sheās better off in an emotionally manipulative relationship than being left alone. josh calling christian out was cathartic because itās what the audience wishes dani could have been able to do. this isnāt to say that dani is weak. she is simply molded by societyās expectations for women. she tries extremely hard to not seem needy, even when sheās going through things that are understandably taxing. midsommar portrays the pain of existing as a woman so accurately it hurts. ari aster.....somehow gets it.
boys and men will try to convince you that humans are intrinsically selfish and egotistical because they canāt cope with the fact that women are actually taught from birth to put their community, their friends, their family, everyone on equal (sometimes even higher) footing.
male individualism is completely dependent on the emotional labour of women, and whenever you try to point this out they act like youāre denying basic human facts
thoughtful cowboy: yee-hmmm

Itās strangely reassuring to know that one of the great constants over six thousand years of human history is the impulse to give animals wheels.
Maybe Iām just tired, but what on earth are you referring to?
