There is a small but warm and friendly Spanish restaurant in the Theater District where me and my boyfriend ate on Saturday night called Meson Sevilla, at 344 West 46th Street, between 8th and 9th avenue.
My boyfriend is Chinese and had never tried any type of Spanish food before, so I googled "Spanish restaurants in NYC" and a whole big list came up. Only three were in the area we were in, so we first went to the closest one....which ended up being some very shady fast food-like place so we kept on walking.
We finally get to 46th street (after my feet had been absolutely dying because of my heels) and as soon as I saw the outside of the restaurant I knew that this place was going to be where we ate.
Inside is very warm and has a home-like feeling. With bread and olive oil already on the table along with a candle, the atmosphere was even more relaxing and romantic.
Although I don't drink, (and it won't be legal for me to drink for another year) there is a full bar and the restaurant offers a great selection of drinks. And even more impressive was their selection of tapas, which I didn't get to try, but will probably go back and try a few because they sounded delicious (and according to reviews online are, they really are)
Anyway, so we order. I get the chicken silvano (chicken with eggplant and mozzarella in wine sauce ) and I thought it was amazing. I adore eggplant and all cheeses, so this was especially wonderful. And it came with a side of Spanish rice!
My boyfriend ordered the Paella Valenciana (with clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, chicken and Spanish sausage in saffron rice) and according to him it was one of the best seafood dishes he's ever tried. (I think I may have gotten him addicted to seafood paella)
I didn't try his because seafood isn't one of my favorite things unless- for some reason- Cajun food (maybe because I'm from the south?)
Anyway we had a great dinner, and I think we've found a new place that we'll be returning to every once and a while.
