GOOD NEWS, THE TEASER TRAILER FOR STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS HAS ARRIVED...BAD NEWS...WE HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER YEAR!
HITTING THEATERS DECEMBER 2015
TRAILER ALERT: JURASSIC WORLD
Via Screen Crush
“You just went and made a new dinosaur? Probably not a good idea.”
And, there’s the ‘Jurassic Park 4’ trailer summed up for you in pretty much one exchange. While the previous ‘Jurassic Park’ films dealt with the folly of John Hammond’s original plans for the park, this new film imagines a world where Jurassic Park is now up and running. The kinks have been worked out. Raptors are trained. But, people are still people and that means they do really stupid things. Like create massive “hybrid” dinosaurs to goose attendance at their park.
You see people riding around on gyrospheres and kayaking peacefully among brontosaurus. But, to keep people attending ‘Jurassic Park,’ they had to created a bigger, meaner and nastier dinosaur and that dinosaur - codenamed Diabolus rex - has gone rogue. Says director Colin Trevorrow of this new threat:
The gaps in her sequence were filled with DNA from other species, much like the genome in the first film was completed with frog DNA. This creation exists to fulfill a corporate mandate—they want something bigger, louder, with more teeth. And that’s what they get.
That’s where Chris Pratt and his band of trained velociraptors come in.
Unlike the previous films, where the dinosaurs were all the monsters, here they seem to be an active part of the fight against one bigger, more monstrous dinosaur. Pratt has some of these dinosaurs trained and will use them to help save the park (and all of us) from disaster.
We don’t get to see this massive new dinosaur (though there is one impressive shot of a new water-based dinosaur leaping out of a Sea World like tank to eat a great white shark), but we do get a pretty impressive money shot: Pratt and army of raptor pals racing to save the day.
One complaint people are sure to have with the 'Jurassic Park 4' trailer is the CGI. It's not perfect in the trailer (the movie doesn't come out until June of next year), and the inevitable complaints of "the visual effects looked better 20 years ago" will be there. The CGI isn't so bad that it will completely ruin the movie and it's certainly something that Trevorrow and his team will be working on until the movie hits theaters. (It's probably also the reason we don't get a good look at the D-rex just yet.) There's enough interesting and exciting stuff here to be optimistic about the future of 'Jurassic World'. C'mon, it has Chris Pratt and the Raptor Army, how can you not be intrigued to see how this all plays out on the big screen?
‘Jurassic World’ opens in theaters on June 12, 2015.
