Awareness is so important. I spent 24 years of my life wondering what was wrong with me and feeling alone when it came to skin, lip, hair picking. When I saw Trich on a show, I googled it and found Derma. It was sort of relieving to have a name for this thing that ive dealt with my whole life. That time I found the name was one of my worst periods for derma. Even then though, I have it much more mildly than the worst cases. Ive lost hours in front of a mirror. Without something to snap me out of the trance...I just dont have the power sometimes to stop. Its at its worst when im stressed..so you can imagine its been bad lately. But now that I understand it better and that helps me stay on top of it. Honestly..just understanding why I feel I “need” to do it helps. It makes me feel like im fixing something, cleansing, purging, releasing...even though you are actually doing damage. So sometimes I can do other things that give me a sense of stress release, cleansing, etc..
Anyway. Just felt like sharing this because maybe someone will see this and discover the name for something they’ve dealt with. Or even giving others insight into why their friends or family have these so called “bad habits”.
