Long time no see
Shaking off the several year dust, since twitter is melting down. Expect more stuff posted to me and my sideblogs soon.
My Sims 4 DLC ranking
All are listed in order depicted on tier list.
Need It!
Base Game - Obviously
Holiday Stuff - Included with Basegame
City Living - Introduces apartments, festival-like events that take place in San Myshuno’s neighborhoods. Expands food stall offerings. Doesn’t seem like much but I love the apartments.
Seasons - Introduces weather and holidays. Essential.
Dream Home Decorator - Introduces the Interior Designer career which lets you take on jobs to remodel other sim’s houses. Also notable for awesome modern modular furniture and some great Create a Sim clothing options.
Parenthood - Another essential buy. Fleshes out child raising, rewarding skilling up toddlers and children to gain unique perks. Toddlers feel hollow without this pack. Parenting also gets a bit of a boon as well.
Tiny Living - 32, 64, or 100 tile homes now give varying perks such as increased skill gain and reduced bills. Includes some great furniture as well.
Nifty Knitting - While Knitting is great (you can make all sorts of wearables including baby onesies, furniture items, etc), the sleeper that makes it a must-have for me is the implementation of Plopsy. Plopsy (like Etsy) is a way for your sims to sell craftables that isn’t just through the ui. You wait for a buyer, then mail the item when one notifies you they want the item! Adds a bit more immersion for crafters.
Like It!
Discover University - I’m super biased to school content and loved Uni in Sims 2 and Sims 3 so this pack is a no brainer. Not essential, but fun anyway! Two different universities with different distinguished degrees. Scholarships based on your skills, and dorms! Also implements the roommate feature that allows you to rent out beds in your home to sims you don’t control.
Cats and Dogs - Enjoyable implementation of - you guessed it - cats and dogs. Includes a myriad of different breeds as well as the option to mix breeds. Pets are not controllable like in Sims 3.
Get Famous - I enjoyed this pack a lot. Fame quirks and perks are really cool and you can get famous from a lot of different things. Notably implements a video production setup that allows you to make videos to gain followers and fame. Lots that have fame ‘gates’ that only VIPs can enter.
Get Together - I enjoyed Windenberg a lot, includes a lot of great decor and CAS items. Implements the club feature, where you can join existing clubs or create your own. Club reputation can be improved by doing tasks that the club likes, and unlocks reputation perks, clothing, and enhanced skill gain in some cases. I don’t use this feature much, but it’s really cool in concept.
Realm of Magic - I love occult sims, so this pack is an easy recommend. Learn spells, brew potions, duel other wizards! The build/buy with this set is very art noveau.
Vampires - Occult, so again, easy buy. Climb the ranks of vampires and learn new perks and quirks. Not a lot to it but its ✨ vampires ✨ so how can you go wrong?
Paranormal - Occult, but ghosts! Implements haunted houses and seances, and has a rad build/buy and CAS offering. Paranormal Investigator career!
Laundry Day - I like mundane shit sometimes, and adding in laundry adds in a little bit of immersion. An enjoyable stuff pack.
Backyard Stuff - This one ranks highly because I’m partial to a hairstyle in this pack. Includes slip n slides and some great backyard furniture.
Moschino Stuff - Includes some of the best windows in the game. Implements the freelance fashion photographer career, and has some great fashion. Apparently the tripod is king to make taking photos easier.
Bust the Dust Kit - Seems sus when it only has 5 items (all vaccuums), but its mundane stuff so I love it. Keeping a clean house gives perks, and the dust bunnies are fun if you’re okay with dealing with a less than clean home.
Blooming Rooms Kit (Not pictured) - So much greenery! It’s a great pack full of plants, how can you go wrong?
Meh
Snowy Escape - Mt. Komorebi is a cool world, and the design of CAS and Build/buy is very inspired by japanese culture. Implements snowboarding, skiing, and rock climbing but falls flat on gameplay that’s usable as an everyday thing. This pack made it so you could put rental lots in the regular worlds instead of being a destination world.
Eco Lifestyle - Almost made it into Like It!, but the world (more importantly the houses in the world) are fucking atrocious. This was the last expansion before EA wisened up and started enlisting content creators to build their lots. Implements a lot of cool functions for Off the Grid households, build/buy and CAS items are pretty solid, and the crafter options (Fizzing, Candlemaking, Fabricating) are all really cool!
Cottage Living - If you are about cottagecore, this pack is for you. Expands on gardening, implements cows, chickens, foxes, llamas. Includes some lot challenges like Simple Living which requires you to gather ingredients in order to be able to cook on your home lot. The neighborly aspect of this pack is pretty cool and the gameplay is fun, but i found i grew bored of it pretty quickly.
Island Living - Beautiful world, implements odd jobs and some more part time gigs. Mermaids can be fun but don’t have much going on for them despite being classified as an occult sim. Gameplay just falls short despite a pretty CAS and build/buy catalog.
Get to Work - This pack is pretty dated, but the immersive careers (Doctor, Detective, and Scientist) are fun if you like playing a single sim. Build/buy and CAS are kind of lacking. Retail shops are cool in theory but very clunky and hard to make profitable in general. A lot of potential in this pack is just lost.
Dine Out - Once again, pretty clunky. Lets you place and run restautants in the world. Service for sims who are eating out is pretty slow but this pack is still a little charming.
Spa Day - Even with the revamp, spa day feels a bit like Dine Out. Fun as a gimmick and a nice place to reward your sim with but otherwise is pretty meh. Implements a variety of custom nails, the wellness skill, yoga, meditation, massages, saunas, etc. You can also sell your services instructing yoga/meditation or giving massages, mani/pedis, etc. Has a nice build/buy kit. The revamp did a lot to make this kit worthwhile.
Strangerville - This game pack has a narrative one can follow by living in the pack’s world. Fun if you’re looking for a new experience but definitely loses its luster after the first playthrough. Most notable for the 1k simoleon laptops. Some cute CAS but build buy is very niche.
Jungle Adventure - A good pack with a great CAS and build/buy, but the gameplay can get boring after the first goaround like strangerville does. If you don’t send your sims on vacations you won’t get much use out of the gameplay of this pack.
Fitness Stuff - A great build/buy and CAS items i use in a lot of builds. Not stellar but not bad either.
Bowling Stuff - Admittedly I never used much of this pack until recently but it’s there with experiences like Spa Day and Dine Out. Fun, but ultimately flat. Not bad but not good.
Vintage Glamour - The only reason this pack didn’t make it to Hate It! was because of the butler implementation. Has an okay CAS and build/buy is a little stiff but it’s a mediocre pack.
Cool Kitchen Stuff - Implements some nice build/buy items and an ice cream maker. It’s a meh pack.
Movie Hangout Stuff - Includes some boho build/buy and implements a popcorn maker. Largely skippable.
Romantic Garden Stuff - A pretty build/buy and a cool wishing well that could potentially kill you. If you like making super elaborate gardens this is your stuff pack.
Perfect Patio Stuff - Was the first implementation of the hot tub in Sims 4, includes some nice build/buy but is otherwise unremarkable.
Industrial Loft Kit - A nice collection of build/buy items if you like the industrial modern look.
Fashion Street Kit - A cute set of CAS items. Hard to go wrong here.
Incheon Arrivals Kit - More cute CAS items, though it’s on the baggier side.
Courtyard Oasis Kit - A pretty build/buy for themed builds.
Hate It!
Outdoor Retreat - Another vacation world, but revolving around camping. Not content I enjoy, really.
Country Kitchen Kit - Pairs well with Cottage Living, but otherwise an unremarkable kit.
Luxury Party Stuff - An abysmal amount of items and no gameplay for a stuff pack. Not worth it.
Kids Room Stuff - Has some okay build/buy but nothing to write home about. Almost doesn’t belong in this tier.
Don’t Own
Journey to Batuu - Just, no. The destination world is clunky, the build/buy is ehh. It just doesn’t thematically fit the sims.
Spooky Stuff - Just Halloween decor. Not really a necessary buy.
My First Pet Stuff - The only thing I want out of this pack is a set of blinds lol. Requires Cats and Dogs to get the full use out of it.
Toddler Stuff - Lackluster build/buy, only want string lights out of this pack.
Throwback Fit Kit - 90s clothing. Not really my style.
Modern Menswear Kit (not pictured) - Not personally a fan of the style of clothing in this kit.
All in all I may add to this list as more stuff comes out or expand on my thoughts in days to come.

Please leave your contact information in your donation message, or email me at commissions [at] ebonshard [dot] com once you’ve paid to give me your character references/screenshots and get added to my queue.
Please note that I am trying to do a high volume of these, and while they are rather quick for me to do I may not do these in the order I receive them. Thank you <3
Send your five Ko-fi ($15) to me at https://ko-fi.com/valivixia
Any signal boosting would be greatly appreciated ^^
When I was younger and more abled, I was so fucking on board with the fantasy genre’s subversion of traditional femininity. We weren’t just fainting maidens locked up in towers; we could do anything men could do, be as strong or as physical or as violent. I got into western martial arts and learned to fight with a rapier, fell in love with the longsword.
But since I’ve gotten too disabled to fight anymore, I… find myself coming back to that maiden in a tower. It’s that funny thing, where subverting femininity is powerful for the people who have always been forced into it… but for the people who have always been excluded, the powerful thing can be embracing it.
As I’m disabled, as I say to groups of friends, “I can’t walk that far,” as I’m in too much pain to keep partying, I find myself worrying: I’m boring, too quiet, too stationary, irrelevant. The message sent to the disabled is: You’re out of the narrative, you’re secondary, you’re a burden.
The remarkable thing about the maiden in her tower is not her immobility; it’s common for disabled people to be abandoned, set adrift, waiting at bus stops or watching out the windows, forgotten in institutions or stranded in our houses. The remarkable thing is that she’s like a beacon, turning her tower into a lighthouse; people want to come to her, she’s important, she inspires through her appearance and words and craftwork. In medieval romances she gives gifts, write letters, sends messengers, and summons lovers; she plays chess, commissions ballads, composes music, commands knights. She is her household’s moral centre in a castle under siege. She is a castle unto herself, and the integrity of her body matters.
That can be so revolutionary to those of us stuck in our towers who fall prey to thinking: Nobody would want to visit; nobody would want to listen; nobody would want to stay.
#it’s so so important to remember that representation is not one-size-fits-all#what is empowering to one person might be exhausting and oppressive to someone else#some people need stories about having the strength to save themselves#some people need stories about being considered worthy of being saved#some people need inspiration for their independence while others need validation that they don’t have to be able to do everything themselves#before you lash out against something PLEASE stop to consider:#is this inadequate and/or damaging representation?#or is it just something I don’t personally relate to?
