Featherfall Manor

Artfight attack on @chocodile !

Seems The Rising Dawn has found temporary lodgings with the two surviving members of the Ambroses, a long fallen mage nobility turned nouveau riche, and then turned land owning gentry once more! Their manor may be sparse, and half of it rented out to some of the townsfolk, but the two of them believe in the mission of The rising Dawn, and would risk sheltering the group for a time (it helps that Featherfall itself, manor and town, is in the midst of nowhere). The siblings both believe that their parents were killed by the shadow while testing snowmobiles on the tundra in a last minute bid to try and revive the Ambrose car company with a hard pivot into snow vehicles. As much as Joan wants to flee to somewhere warmer, maybe even follow the Rising Dawn to the city of the sun, she and Micheal are tied to Featherfall by obligation. So the two birds try to provide what little help they can to the cause of studying and destroying the shadow.

As Featherfall dwindles, the Ambroses found themselves as some sort of a defactor town leaders, leading Micheal to see himself as a sort of noble protector of Featherfall. Never mind the fact the Ambrose family has not had any feudal rights to the town in centuries! He has been strategizing and stockpiling weapons and building defenses with Joan and any citizens who would lend a hand in order to keep the town and people within safe. He has even tried to drum up a sort of town militia, with limited success. Self conscious of how a peacock may come off as frivolous and flippant in such a dark and grim world, Micheal also regularly plucks out his train, and tries to limit his clothes to darker colors-but still yearns for colorful, whimsical finery. Joan actually enjoys the day to day town management, accounting, and clerical tasks that have become her responsibility, even though the numbers seem to decreases monthly as the weather grows harsher and more villagers leave for Ironfrost. Secretly, Joan bitterly wishes there was some way to restore the old magic lost ages past to her family, that she could embody the magical talent of her ancient ancestor, a talented witch, and be able to do something more then just offering their home to the group for a few days on their journey to find the mysterious warm City of the Sun. She finds herself obsessing over whatever stories of magic she can find-if she was born with magic, she would have been responsible with it. She would have put it to good use! In short, there's hubris in both of these birds!

Here, Joan has made some tea for her guests, and Micheal is fascinated by Hyden talking about his favorite subject (himself). Joan and Alex find themselves kindred spirits in not liking the giant evil bunny.

This was super ambitious, but I am very happy with it. I feel like I've learned a lot, and it's great to push myself to the limits!

Changing Micheal and Margery's lore to instead of being arranged to be married, they got into huge trouble marrying secretly! Both were supposed to be arranged to be married to other people at some point, only for the two young courtiers to fall in love, and on a romantic impulse, get married.

Joan stood by the couple the whole time, despite thinking that Micheal was extremely foolish for the whole thing (and being very jealous, her own marriage, brief as it was, was not a good match) and eventually Margery and Micheal were able to get back into their family's (and the courts) good graces. Even Margery's mother, formerly one of Catherine of aragorn's ladies, admits that she and Micheal are a good match.
