Prompt 8

<p><p>I searched the hashtag picture books on Instagram. The only difference I would say from my last search on tumblr would be that there was more pictures of the front covers of picture books. There was also a few picture of children reading them.</p> After this experience I think you could search particular hashtags for class use. I would search the hashtag first outside of the classroom to see what types of posts were there. When students type in topics into google the information is often false or from an unreliable source. I feel like researching a hashtag would bring up a variety of sources for the students to use. It would be an interesting experiment to test in the classroom.

PROMPT 7 The thing I found most interesting when searching the hashtag picture books was the abundance of drawings, pictures, colours and stories. There was so many different styles of pictures it was incredible. I also found it interesting that most of the posts had an animal in them. This got me thinking about how most picture books I have read have had animals as the main character.

Prompt 6 "Discover the diversity of Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages" This video found on splash.abc.net.au shows 5 different Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages. This short clip showed me the importance of learning these languages in schools. Schools often learn one language other than English but I haven't heard of a school in my local area learning an Indigenous language. You could get the students to do a KWL chart before watching this video. The students would write what they 'know' and 'want to know' about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. The students could then share there knowledge with a partner.

Prompt 5

- It was a cold night and silence filled the air. The boy had no strength and felt hollow from no food. He began to feel transparent.

- Why won’t they help us? Can’t they see us?

Front loading activity: I would get the students to predict what they think the book is about just from looking at the front cover and title. The students will write between 3-5 predictions each. Once they have completed that, they will share one prediction with a partner and tell their partner why they predict that will happen. This activity should take between 10-20minutes depending on class size.

WEEK FOUR PROMPT

                                  Social Media in the classroom 

In this day and age the online world is continually growing and being used more and more in workplaces and schooling. I think it is a crucial part of students learning to be involved in social media. It is highly likely that in some stage of the students lives they will experiment or use some form or multiple forms of social media, so why not teach them in the classroom how to be safe online?  I believe that it’s our job as educators to best prepare our students for what they may face in the outside world. If we don’t involve social media in our classroom then how are they expected to know how to be cyber safe? I understand that parents may have restrictions on their child's internet use or may not have access to the internet but I think it’s still important for everyone to learn. Inside the classroom you are able to teach the students how to use social media in a positive light. You could create lessons through using certain social media forums or even just have it as a forum for students to communicate with each other about work instead of relying on the teacher all the time. There will always be negatives and positives when it comes to using any social media cite, especially within the classroom. I think that if the teacher can properly monitor its use and express the importance of positive and safe online behaviour than it can be a great learning tool.

Most of my reading comes from online or through the use of technology. I’m often sending messages to and from my work places and sporting clubs. I don’t enjoy sitting down and reading for long periods of time so I’ll often read short articles or blogs online. I find it a lot easier to look something up on the internet and get an instant response for what I’m looking for instead of looking through books or newspapers to find the information.

WEEK TWO PROMPT

Are You Seeing Me?  - By Darren Groth  Prediction Activity  The focus of the activity is that the students read the title, look at the pictures on the cover, the layout of the text and the colours used to form a prediction about the book. They then have to make a list of all the evidence they used to form that prediction. This is a simple activity to get students thinking about what they are about to read.  #ecl3102016 #prompttwo

WEEK ONE REFLECTION 

Throughout my Primary School experience all of my teachers read to the class at some point or another. I’ll always remember one teacher in particular though who always made an effort to read to the whole class everyday. The Roald Dahl books were always a popular choice and over the two years I had this particular teacher we read through most of them. I never enjoyed sitting still so reading was always something I found boring. Although every time time we sat down to listen to this teacher read I was more relaxed than ever. It started to become the thing I looked forward to every day at school. This teacher had a way of telling the story as if we were in fact there and always tried to relate bits of the story to our lives. I think the teacher mostly read to us everyday to calm us all down after recess or lunch before starting the lesson but it definitely remains one of my favourite memories of Primary School.
