Prompt 8

This weeks reflection: When searching #picturebooks into Facebook again a lot of different posts came up. However, they were slightly different to the tumblr posts. There was a range of pictures, website links and videos. There was more variety. People sharing good books, pictures, events, and more. The hashtag is becoming more popular and could be used in a classroom for students to search and learn new things. Of course this would have to be monitored. In this new age I think students would love this as a tool with the traditional methods.

Prompt 7

Prompt 7 reflection: This week when I searched #picturebooks into the search bar a lot of different posts came up. There is a lot of people talking about picture books which is great. I particularly liked how many illustrations there where from a range of picture books. They were all different. This could be a great discussion in a classroom. Discussing different illustrations in books, what they mean, and how were they made.

Prompt 6

I watched the video called Learn some of the Noongar language. This video was aimed at grade 6 students. It demonstrated many Indigenous native plants and foods, they explained the Noongar names for all these native elements and in many cases they related to what it was in English. You could use this video for a front loading task for the topic on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. An example of a task could be as a class or in small groups making a comparison between Indigenous names and English names for native things such as plants or food. You could have a comparison wall or poster which each group contributes too. Then through out the unit students can refer back to the wall or poster.

Week 4 Reflection- I liked this display in the classroom where I was on placement. It allows students to see their own progress on particular topic area. They get to move up the scale once they have grasped something new. It's a great way to celebrate learning success!

Week 3 Reflection

Over the past week I have engaged in many different forms of texts. These range from newspapers, text books, text messages, children's books, emails, Facebook posts/blogs, letters and posters. There are many forms of text but they are all written with a different purpose or meaning. Over the last week I would of engaged with text messages, emails and posts the most. These are electronic forms of text!

Week 2 Reflection

A prediction activity I would get the class to do using this books front cover is to predict what the person/creature might see within the book. The possibilities are endless. Or I could get them to brain storm what the book might be about using the pictures from the cover.

Week One Reflection

At primary school u remember my school tracing reading Possum Magic to the class. The whole class enjoyed this book and so did I. We did activities that related to the book afterwards. This is a great book and I think I will use in my class room in the future.
