Happy bday to the best, most handsome old man🎁
When you answered my question about whether or not Nana should've retired and reclaimed her son, you accused AFO of killing Nana's husband. I don't think AFO killed Nana's spouse because it's never been stated anywhere in the story that AFO was the culprit.
Shortly after the battle at Kamino, Gran Torino acknowledges that Nana's husband was murdered, he never reveals who was at fault, nor does anyone else. If AFO was truly at fault for the death of Nana's husband, don't you this would've been noted somewhere in the story?
I don’t think it needs to be stated explicitly. We know that Nana’s husband died due to AFO in some form, whether that’s AFO killing directly (though I feel this is unlikely given AFO’s usual modus operandi), AFO’s associates/followers killing on purpose, or the general chaos AFO fostered that led to high rates of crime and violence (which is what seems to have claimed Toshinori’s family, and why Nana was receptive to Toshinori’s “symbol of peace” idea). Before All Might, everyone lived in AFO’s world, whether they knew it or not. Nana dedicated her life to justice and putting an end to that world. She put Kotaro into foster care after her husband’s death because she wanted Kotaro “far from the world of heroes” who were fighting AFO, and her main concern was explicitly keeping “him” (AFO) off Kotaro’s trail.
Correction, according to recent info from The Ultra Age Fan book, AFO did in fact kill Nana's husband by his own hands. What's even more shocking was that this incident occurred when Kotaro was still a baby! Nana didn't know about AFO before he killed her spouse, but she found out soon after. This means by extension, Nana knew that AFO made her a widow long before she received OFA but didn't bother to tell Kotaro about this even after she placed him foster care! I get that Nana didn't want to give Kotaro TMI, but I can't believe she keep AFO's role in her husband's death a secret from their child!
UPDATE: After some thought, I think I was wrong to condemn Nana for refusing to acknowledge AFO's role in her husband's death in the letter she left for their child. She didn't have to disclose AFO's identity to Kotaro in order for him to understand that the man she left to fight killed his dad, It would give Kotaro another reason to wonder who his mother left to fight as she never told anyone else AFO's identity. Furthermore, acknowledging the role AFO played in his father's murder without disclosing the villain's identity would cause Kotaro to wonder why his mother never got the authorities involved in bringing his killer to justice. Nana's refusal to provide further detail would cause Kotaro to resent her even more. But since Nana wasn't comfortable disclosing AFO identity to Kotaro, she didn't see any point providing any piece of information that would raise even more questions. If Nana acknowledged that the person she needs to fight was responsible for her husband's death, Kotaro would have a slightly better idea who the "really bad man" is, if Kotaro doesn't know AFO's identity, knowledge of the role the latter played in taking the life of the former's father wouldn't provide Kotaro closure, It would only raise even more questions Nana couldn't bring herself to answer. Nana knew that her refusal to disclose AFO's identity would weigh heavily on Kotaro and she had no wish to provide additional reasons for Kotaro to resent her.

To A New Dawn
After many months, I finally finished the piece!! :DD
I wanted to challenge myself, and since the main story of BNHA was ending at the time, I decided to draw all nine one for all users in the same piece because I rarely drew more than one or two characters.
And while BNHA was airing it's final season, I was also playing HSR during the amphoreus arc and that was also ending. So the title is kind of a homage to that specific arc.
No rainbow line version
Here's the no rainbow line version because I wasn't sure if I liked the piece with, or without it.
LMAOOOOO EVERYONE JUST BEING DONE WITH HIM
Did Inko and Mitsuki know about how much Katsuki bullied Izuku?
I wonder if Izuku and Katsuki kept their frenemy / victim-bully dynamic under wraps in front of their parents when they were younger. Seeing how close their families are, there's no doubt they went on playdates or someth every once in a while, maybe even at each other's houses! It could've been a bit more obvious to Mitsuki since Katsuki was the one bullying Izuku, but he was also the kinda kid who was more aggressive and would push ppl around to seem tough, so she might've just thought he was being himself, however many times she would've told him not to be hurtful. And I wonder how Masaru would react - probs in a similar way, but less stern. It's defo a bit more complex for Inko tho. Did she know or did she just assume they were best friends who played rough? Did Deku and Katsuki, let's say in junior high, hide their dynamic from their parents to avoid being scolded and prevent potential arguments from happening between their families?
Cos genuinely, I feel like if Inko knew just how severely Katsuki bullied her son, she would never allow the two of them to play together, or even hang out, ever again. I mean, seeing how physically aggressive Katsuki was with him, there's no way she wouldn't have noticed or asked about it. What if Izuku lied to make sure she didn't worry, saying that he tripped while running around or someth like that (after all, we know how clumsy he is, and he has a whole thing about lying that he's fine in order to prevent ppl from worrying about him)? Plus, we've seen just how upset Inko got when she saw how much Izuku was getting injured when using OFA / after crisis situations involving school, e.g the forest training camp.
Which makes me wonder: Inko has barely ever mentioned Katsuki, not even when talking to Izuku. It's weird to me cos Izuku and Katsuki are such a big part of each others' lives. There's no way the Bakugo family ISN'T mentioned every day in the Midoriya household and vice versa. Yet Inko barely mentions Katsuki at all! I acknowledge that this might just be cos she doesn't get much screentime, but still. What if the way she'd piece together that Izuku was being bullied by Katsuki is from the injuries he came home from school with most days, but noticed how desperately he wanted to be friends with Katsuki, so she didn't wanna pull them apart cos it'd make him more sad. And he was ALREADY sad about being Quirkless... so in the end she just refuses to talk about Katsuki cos of how much pain he caused to Izuku. Ofc, she'd become a bit more open to talking about him after the Final War when the two of them successfully heal their friendship.
All Izuku wanted was two things that were seemingly unattainable at the time- to become a hero, and to be friends with Katsuki. Striving for both these things hurt him so much, which would've obvs hurt Inko too, but she might've thought "my son might not be able to achieve his dream of being a hero, but at the very least he should get to have the friend that he wants so badly..." she'd just want him to have at least ONE thing that he could achieve that'd make him happy :(
There's an entire part of Izuku and Katsuki's dynamic that's missing cos we barely know anything about their parents and how much they knew about it. I wish Horikoshi expanded more on them... all we can infer is that Inko and Mitsuki are good friends, cos we very frequently see them together, and the latter comforting / being there for the former. That's what gives me the impression that the Midoriya and Bakugo families are close. I wonder how often the two mothers talk about their kids, and if they've ever mentioned the bullying. If they even knew...
