I’ve been pretty much roundly ignoring this place for a while mostly due to being an insanely busy person and needing to use Facebook for the vast majority of my social media stuff because of Heavy Blog. Here’s basically what I’ve been up to though the past few months.
Video man doing the video things:
This is going pretty way back, but late summer into the fall I edited this really great video for Uniqlo about their participation in this year’s Special Olympics World Games.
I covered Advertising Week for PwC, one of those financial consulting/analyst firms that’s literally all up in everyone’s business. I’ll be going to Vegas first week of January to cover CES, which I’m super pumped about!
I put together this fun teaser video for Boba Guys, a popular SF-based milk tea bar that’s expanding to NYC.
I’ve also done a buttload of work for Skillshare, a subscription-based tutorial site that covers pretty much everything imaginable. I recently filmed and edited this course on making enchiladas verdes, which was fantastic because it was a fun course, very visually interesting, and I got to taste the results at the end. Unfortunately I can’t embed the video here, but here’s a link to the course.
Got a bunch of other things I’m working on/wrapping up and some great things in store for 2016. Very desperately need to cut a new reel, as my old one is looking exceedingly out of date.
Music blog editor guy doing the music blog editor things:
After a major upheaval that required us to completely uproot the website and change our theme/design, we finally wrapped up our year of coverage with our end-of-year content. We had one of our best weeks of the year with great pickup and reception and have closed out the year on a definite high note.
Here are some of the highlights from this week, and then a few other articles I’ve penned over the past few months that I’m quite proud of.
Heavy Blog’s Top 50 Albums of 2015
Our “Outliers” List (albums that made our personal top 10s but not our aggregate list)
Our Individual Top 10s
A “Meta”-Aggregate Best-Of List (in which I show how similar all the major publications’ opinions on the best music of the year are)
I also wrote a treatise on modern post-metal with my co-conspirator Eden and took the clickbait-cycle establishment to task, surely ending self-serving clickbait forever.
Got a lot of really exciting plans for Heavy Blog in 2016, and we have every intention to build off of our successes this year and really take off!
Things I have not been really doing but intend to do more of:
Live Music Videos: The Heavy Blog Youtube channel has been doing amazing things in terms of views/subscribers, but I’ve had zero time to shoot any shows in the past couple of months, and I’ve still got a whole slew of sets to edit. Hopeful I can finally get all of those out and up soon though and start shooting again in 2016.
Photos: The last time I took photos in any serious was likely over the summer. But I’m up in NH through New Year’s now, and given that I probably won’t be doing much skiing due to the utter absence of snow, I’m hoping to get some good photo time in.
Music (performance/composition): This has just completely fallen off in the past few years, but I’ve promised myself that this will be no more in 2016. Updates will come.
Anyhoo....as per usual, that was all much longer than I intended. 2015 was pretty cool. 2016 should be pretty cool as well. Thanks for following/reading!
