it's like. somebody makes a joke about someone's weird quirk and you turn to them and say "it's because they're disabled." and they say oh shit! my bad! because everyone knows it's Bad to make fun of disabilities. and it's Okay to make fun of weird quirks. but that's kind of like saying "this person is only weird because they're weird!", isn't it? and so this leads to them saying "i didn't mean to make fun of them for their autism, i was just making fun of them for being weird! i didn't know the weird was because of the autism!" but the weird Is the autism, and so this way of thinking will never lead to an easy rule we can follow in order to never make fun of the Wrong Things. we gotta completely change the way that we reprimand this so that instead of there being Things you Can't Make Fun of and Things that you Can, and instead of there being Things you can Control (ok to make fun of) and Things you Can't Control (not okay) (<- how can anyone know by looking which is which?) there's something else, where all weirdness is celebrated and everyone gets weirder. making fun of people's weird quirks only really rewards people for being boring anyways. perhaps the funny joke can be competing to be the weirdest instead. others have said this more eloquently but anyways it's my job today to remind you to
GET WEIRDER NOW!!!!
