every time a "there's a real secret ontologically villain in utdr" theory falls out of vogue there's a horde of people running to pick up those pieces like jenga blocks and retrofit them onto a different character. people don't like ontologically evil chara anymore? ok what if it was gaster. ohhh kris is doing something spooky so let's say it was them. oh that was disproven? ummm actually that's boring now so let's all fixate on a png of a spooky cat and decide based on circumstantial evidence that it's actually definitely secretly a being that purely exists to do evil guys. trust. we will definitely unmask the real villain of utdr this time. we can't function as a community if these games do not have a character who is just blatantly pure evil. we just need to have one.

"it's spooky and creepy" and "there's circumstantial evidence (that requires several leaps of logic, mind you) to believe it's done something fucked up" are simply not good enough evidence in a game where it is literally shown multiple times that characters being interpreted as creepy and scary and having done something weird/bad 1. does not reflect the entirety of their personhood 2. hurts them immensely when other people treat them as such and 3. might not even reflect literally anything about who they are. it's almost like the game has themes in this regard or something..........

I remember when I was about 12, I watched a show on TLC that followed people as they got somewhat uncommon medical procedures.

There was one episode with a trans woman getting different gender-affirming operations, including breast implants. It showed the procedure, and (what I found so fascinating that it's stuck with me for decades), as soon as the doctor put the implant in, a censor blur popped up on the nipple.

And you just know there was a meeting between the TLC lawyers and the editors and producers of the show to discuss what the difference was between a "man nipple" (can be shown) and a "woman nipple" (no no must obscure, 'tis naughty). And they decided that as soon as the implant goes in and the nipple has more mass behind it, that's the moment when it becomes a woman's nipple and must be hidden to comply with TV rules.

But it's the same nipple. On the same person. I know what it looks like; I just saw it. But TV and obscenity rules are rules, and the rules say woman nipple = sexual and therefore explicit, but man nipple = neutral, just fine.

"Free the Nipple" was calling out arbitrary bullshit like that, because someone just existing with their body parts should not be considered obscene, and the double standard that men can be topless but women can't is so blatantly ridiculous. All nipples are just nipples. If you get turned on or bothered by them, that's on you.

something that is left out a lot in discussion of the themes and such of deltarune is tobys real life disability. consider why a disabled person may be telling a story about a complex relationship and desire for freedom

most of the discussion i see about what freedom means in deltarune relates it back to gender and gender expression, which is obviously a very important part of dr, but i think there are other layers to it that aren't really being explored because it's less relatable to much of the audience.

just thinking about kris, i think there's a lot of ways their struggles can be interpreted as relating to disability. one example that seems particularly intentional is kris not being able to play the piano while under the soul's control and toby commenting about not being able to play the piano (among other things) due to pain.

we see in chapter 5 that kris can barely survive without the soul, but they also can't freely live their life how they want with it. they get to a point where they can barely move without it. they push themself beyond their limits to achieve what they can't when they're tied down by the soul. idk i kinda lost track of what i was saying here

not to mention a lot of the hand/arm imagery surrounding kris. there are theories that kris is going to cut off their own hand(s) by the game's end, and we keep seeing different instances of either kris intentionally injuring their hand or mentions of a character losing their hand. i don't think it's a coincidence that on top of all the things previously mentioned, kris' hand and injury is a prevalent theme, considering we know a lot of toby's chronic pain is in his hands and wrists

When I was in elementary & middle school and we had group assignments, I always used to pair up with the person who got left last. I was obsessed with kindness and antibullying and I just thought it was the nice thing to do.
