I refuse to acknowledge Fourth of July. Happy birthday Haymitch Abernathy
What I think is really interesting is that even tho the "you're the third choice science specialist" scene is almost the same in the book and movie it READS so differently across the two.
In the movie, the shock comes bc Ryland is acting in character for himself, but out of character for the scene. Movie Ryland isn't good at being an astronaut, he's not trained, Stratt basically had to convince him to continue working on astrophage. It's already been established outwardly that he's a coward, but you're still disappointed that he wouldn't rise to the occasion knowing that it's humanity's only shot.
In the book on the other hand, Ryland is out of character for HIMSELF, and in character for the scene. Ryland doesn't really come off as a coward in the book, he's fairly calm and in general he comes off as someone who at the very least knows what he's doing. He IS trained as an astronaut, and he barged in on Stratt cleaning up his lab and basically begged her to let him keep working on the astrophage because he couldn't sit by while bad things happened to the kids he taught. That's why when he freaks out over being told he was the third choice you're so upset, because you know he can do it. The big difference tho is that unlike in the movie, Grace was trained as an astronaut basically without his knowledge. When he finds out they want him to be the science specialist he also finds out that for the past years(??) the person he was closest to had him living on an airship because she was essentially planning his death. He was her second in command not out of merit but because she had him as a contingency. That SUCKS.
I just think it's really interesting/well done that both scenes leave you feeling really disappointed in him, while also being able to adapt a long ass book into a 2 hour movie.
Before I watched the movie I saw PHM fanart of rocky saying he hates mark and for like at least a month I thought that it was semi-cannon that rocky hated Mark Watney (from The Martian)
Reading romance as an aro ace person feels like reading a fantasy novel where a magic plague is infecting people. Like wow, that's so interesting and fun to read about! So glad it's not real tho
Do we think I can learn to quilt in a week to make this be honest

Yes I believe in you
No I don't believe in you
Aren't you employed?
Can confirm this is what it's like being a botanist
I'm only like 8 episodes into re-watching mystery inc as an adult but (and I say this with so much love) it feels like the physical manifestation of compulsory heterosexuality as televised directed from a 19 year old woman who is one really good grunge concert from admitting she's been in love with her best friend for three years. But that's just me-
never forget when finnick was performing mouth to mouth to save peeta, and katniss’s first thought was “damn me too girl but time and place?????”
I'm out there in the summer getting it. And by "it" we'll, let's just say, heatstroke
happy pride month 🏳️🌈 shout out to all the aromatic asexuals who stratt would LOVE to put on the Hail Mary (so there is less chance of romantic or sex related conflict of course)
happy pride month to ryland grace the aroace of all time
The French version of Project Hail Mary is "Projet Dernière Chance" [project last chance] and I think that's so funny.
Comic-con isn't even ready for me
He doesn't even know about Ryland Grace saving the stars
