something i drew for @revivalguide This character inspired me a lot, the type of design and color palette that I like to work with, since I had creative freedom I let myself go
i love this mask, alas i only use it for the pinecone unc. decided to make a simple steampunk-ish fit with it
the pants have a warm undertone to them and it pisses me off sometimes π because i want to wear them with the mischief boots and they have silver! buckles! and they donβt really work with warm-toned cosmetics. in my eyes at least
I am. emotionally distraught over Sky CotL Season of Van Gogh. And I guess just Vincent Van Gogh's life story in general
(Spoilers for the event:)
The way that the event primarily takes place in Johanna's Gallery and most of the time you start an event with her there, she looks worried or concerned in some fashion after having read a letter presumably by Vincent
The way his letters start with being so happy and cheerful, but there're little cracks in his happiness and his bliss starting to form
The way Vincent tried to get into a clique and/or get other people to approve of him, but no one bothered to look his way
The way the first half of his self-portrait letter says something like "I have sent you some drawings, have a look at them and tell me", which leads you to think he was going to say "what you think", but then it transitions to Van Gogh at an art gallery and finishes with "why they don't sell." :((
The way he tried to dedicate himself to improving his craft so people will finally like his work enough to buy them and put them up in their homes, but clearly things didn't pan out that way since he kept writing about working to improve and make progress on himself
The way his favorite color was yellow and his favorite flower was sunflowers, the way he loved both so much that his brother's safe (his financial support) is covered in them, the way Theo loved him and was willing to support him so much that his brother's flowers grow and flourish upon his safe, the way that Johanna had a sunflower brooch in life and has one in her model, the way that in the event sunflowers from the safe are used by Theo to give things to Vincent
The way Theo cheekily gave Vincent a copious, almost ridiculous amount of yellow paint bottles after Vincent bashfully wrote to him saying that he ran out of yellow because he was using it so much
The way the appearance of the crow in his house drained the vibrant colors in his room and metaphorically drove Vincent to cut off his ear, the way the crows representing his depression kept increasing in number even when you make the almond blossoms bloom in an attempt to bring color back into his life and give him a singular desire to paint that he hasn't had in ages, the way that despite Theo inviting Vincent to visit his nephew and your best attempts to cheer up Vincent the crows overwhelm him, the way you struggle to even take off when you deliver his letter to Theo, the way Theo looks to his safe with sunflowers but didn't get a flower to send Vincent something because he felt that there wasn't much his safe of flowers, his neverending love for and support of his brother could do to save Vincent from his spiral.
The way I felt it in the air when all the crows and withered sunflower motifs were popping up in the Wheatfield with Crows map even though I realize right away that this painting was the very last one Vincent painted. The way Vincent's backpack and hat had none of his beloved sunflowers with him. The way Vincent's precious easel and painting supplies toppled to the ground when I found them.
The way I was saying "Vincent, whatever you're thinking of doing" over and over when I finally saw him because I knew it and I felt it. The way the wind in the map was pushing me back and preventing me from getting to him. The way he dissipated into a flock of crows and his back was turned the entire time. The way the sunflowers on his deathbed were wilted, and the way there were wilted sunflowers on Theo's deathbed were wilted.
The way that Johanna's role in the event is showing you Vincent's letters and paintings, just like what she did in real life. The way that her study is Vincent's gallery. The way that it stats out cold and dim and empty but by the end of the event the room is now a server for all Skykids playing through the event and is bustling with thousands of lives across all corners of the world, all there to marvel in the art of a man who yearned for even a fraction of this attention all his life.
The way that we, by standing in that gallery with Vincent's life's work, are fulfilling Vincent's dream of being recognized and understood, and Johanna's dream of Vincent's legacy being preserved. We, by standing in front of his paintings and admiring the colors and strokes and compositions and sceneries he chose, are painting his name and work onto our minds so that generations beyond him and us will forever know the name Vincent Van Gogh, the legendary painter who made art in his pain, despite his pain.
Serene looks absolutely adorable with this hairstyle, I love how it looks on her
I made it a braid because Hearth also wears a braid, and in my mind, it was obvious that if Serene ever had long hair, she'd end up braiding it
How many characters will I have with braids? As many as I want! I love braids.
