What book genres does the Thea sisters read?
In general they really like mysteries and collectively bond over them whenever the hyperfixations hit like that, but from what I recall:
Colette likes romance, obviously
Nicky I think likes encyclopedias and nature books? I could be wrong
Pam likes adventure-comedies
Paulina likes mysteries and reads them the most regularly
And Violet likes classic literature
That's the stuff I know from canon
Now for the headcanons :D
Colette has mentioned canonically multiple times that she adores Romeo and Juliet and I think she's said somewhere that it's her absolute favorite of all time. I'm not denying this, but I am saying she's absolutely the type of Romeo and Juliet fan who chooses to deliberately stop reading after their wedding because Romeo and Juliet were able to run away together and live in peace and away from their beefing families and be happy and nothing bad ever ever ever happened to them ever again :D
Nicky doesn't like reading. Specifically she doesn't like reading books that are just boring old blocks of text for pages on end. But stick her with a book that has a lotta pictures on them, especially one of those Nat Geo books with texts overlaid on top of images and she's glued to it for hours. She's fine with reading novels with the girls though, reading's oftentimes more fun with friends after all ^^
Pam's an audiobook listener more than a book reader, and sometimes she listens to them while tinkering with her car. Her one pet peeve about audiobooks is that a handful of them feel just the tiniest bit too slow, but setting the speed to 1.25x just makes them too fast. This also means she can easily pick up on if an AI-generated voice is narrating the book she's listening to. If so, it's her opportunity to check the audio book's description to see for sure, and then quickly find another recording of the book that's voiced by a real mouse.
Paulina has a tally for how many times she's predicted the culprits in mystery books. So far she's found that with Sherlock Holmes mysteries she's got a decent prediction rate, but with Agatha Christie novels there are two possibilities: either she is able to correctly predict the culprit to an uncannily perfect level, or she gets utterly blindsided, and there's no in-between.
Adding to the previous point, Violet is the inverse -- she predicts Agatha Christie culprits pretty well, but Sherlock Holmes culprits are either obvious from the get-go or are the person she least expects.
Violet does like Western classics, but after surviving her gaokao, she had a phase where she dove deep into wuxia and Chinese classical literature. You wouldn't know it from looking at her bookshelves in Mouseford, though -- she hides her shame so well that you wouldn't notice it at all even if you accessed her bookshelf regularly. I bet you wouldn't even notice her well-loved copies of China's Four Great Classics and the little scraps of paper she's slipped between the pages.
Adding to the previous point, part of her phase was buying a conical hat for cosplay purposes. Yes, painfully stereotypical as it was in Blue Scarab Hunt, I'm gonna choose to believe she got it as part of a cosplay she made during her post-gaokao euphoria. She keeps the hat, but the rest of the outfit is in Hangzhou because she'd rather die than let anyone in (or out of) Mouseford see it. Or her pictures of her wearing it.
Guess what her parents snuck into the family photo album when the girls came over to their home in Hangzhou :D
