Jewelry project
Yess I finished watching all the tutorials! Now onto the first project:
The object of this project is to model and texture a piece of jewelry. Your jewelry can either be of your own design or it can be patterned after an existing piece of jewelry.
Your jewelry must be placed in an environment that best displays its attributes. This might be a “store-type” display stand or it might be placed in some suitable (or unsuitable) surrounding.
Plans for the near future
As far as my modeling skyllz are concerned, I still intend to follow the official Blender tutorials, because I need to learn what the editor can do before I’m able to use it at its full potential. I watched two more sections today (about Modifiers and Scenes) and I have 5 more to go until I’m done with the beginner course. As homework of sorts there are 8 projects to do. They seem to leave much more space to creativity and initiative than the excercises at the end of each section (you may remember the horrible monstrosity that was the Shark Project) which I’m really excited about :D For example, I peeked and in the first one I’m supposed to design a piece of jewelry and set it in an environment that “best displays its attributes” which sounds awesome.
After that there’s a tutorial about modeling a human head. Now, the reason I’m rushing the beginner tutorials is that my end goal is to model photorealistic scenes with people in them, so I’m really looking forward to that!
So yeah! I’ll be watching tutorials for a while, then modeling the aforementioned projects, then watching more tutorials :D
Scrolling
My laptop makes weird sounds when rendering animations.
(Read: new model coming up soon! :D)
When in doubt, add more domes.
So I started working on a mosque, this is what I’ve got so far. I’m not entirely satisfied with the shape of the dome, it should probably be a little chubbier, right now it looks like an egg, haha. But yeah, mosques have fascinating architecture, I hope I’ll be able to make one that gets at least somewhat close to them ^^
Now I’m not really sure what to do. The options are to start watching the animation section of the tutorials, keep going with one of my unfinished projects (one is a creepy still nature composition, the other a panel from Homestuck), or starting an easier one. I was thinking about a mosque maybe? Hmm.
If you have a suggestion/request go ahead and tell me ^^
?
Another terrible exercise is done! Dear Mr. Hirsig, that’s not how torchlights work, the reflectors make the beam be straight, not with a 45° angle :P
But now that this is out of the way, I can start the new section which is about animations! I’m really excited for it :D
...
I want this knife
So, I haven’t posted anything for a while because, well, I’m working on a model that requires quite a bit of research. As an example, there will be a knife in it, but this is the best I could come up with so far:
Now, it’s not actively bad, but it feels fake. The blade reflects too much light, but if I lower the reflectivity it just looks like plastic. Real knives look like this:
So yeah, I’m mostly looking into making better materials atm.
As a side note, I didn’t expect the Cruxtruder to get notes! :O If you followed me because of it, know that I’ll probably make more hs models in the future. Maybe even animations, we’ll see. In any case, welcome ^^
I just started working on a new model. It’s quite more complicated than the cruxtruder one, I’m not even sure if I have the knowledge needed to pull it off. Well, there’s only one way to find out! ^^
Yep, it’s slightly out of my reach for now, since as it turns out simulating cloth is pretty complicated. I’ll get started on other parts of it then, and come back later to finish it.
It’s going to be a still life composition :D

Yikes. I’m on a roll today, but at what price? The old Blender tutorials are so bad!

Look at that lighting (so dramatic I love it)
Anyway I’m almost finished with this Cruxtruder, I only need to smooth that top cylinder, apply the textures and change the lights.
A little preview! ;D yes I’m hs trash
