‘i have a weird craving for like.. setting fire to something. that’s just the mood for today.’ edith mentioned casually while emptying her bag on mama dee’s counter, with leo on the other side of it. her comment was, of course, directed at leo, but she didn’t even glance at him while talking. instead she rummaged through the contents of her bag, fished out her cigarettes and a neon slime green lighter. ‘like i know there’d be consequences but also, who says i’d get caught.’ she put one cigarette between her lips, then lifted her lighter to light it, but she stopped mid-air, finally making contact with leo. ‘oh, fuck. no smoking inside. god fucking dammit.’ edith was notorious for being kicked out for smoking inside of establishments, but mama dee’s had a special place in her heart, she could make an exception. instead, she put the unlit cigarette behind her ear and shoved all her belongings back in her back without much care. ‘the universe is against me today. but what else is new. what time do you get back your freedom again tonight?’
callie finally had some free time on her hand and it was more than surprising to find herself wandering around the village rather than being in bed. it was probably the fact that there were around twenty boxes that were waiting for callie to open and put away. she held her hand out while walking past the keychains, letting her fingertips drift past them. something shiny caught her eye, so it was only right for callie to make her way towards the item and pick it up to give it a better look. after a few minutes of just observing the item, looking around it for a description, a voice caught her attention. her blue eyes bolted up and looked for the person who called out. a panicked smile appeared on her face when she made eye contact with no other than edith. ‘ oh hey. ’, she nervously chuckled. ‘ um yeah, but… ’, callie started, taking a few steps towards edith. ‘ what exactly is it ? ’
callie’s panicked smile did not go unnoticed and edith mirrored it with a smile of her own, though less panicked and more cynical. ‘do i look like i keep track of whatever junk occupies this shit store?’ she replied just as cynical as her smile had previously been. she didn’t give callie much time to reply, following up her statement by actually answering callie’s question. something close to kindness, coming from edith. ‘some kind of weird supposed-to-be-artsy decor piece i think. are you gonna buy it or not?’ she raised one eyebrow in anticipation of callie’s answer, though she didn’t look as threatening as she could. running into callie always kind of threw her off. she held one of her forever grudges against the other girl, but she couldn’t help but be kind of curious about her either. ‘also, since when are you a tourist in the town you grew up in?’
‘you gonna pay for that?’ edith said, casually sitting on the desk surface next to the cash register. normally customers of the gift shop would put their items there, but edith had discovered that she liked the view over the entire store when she sat here. it did probably mean that some people loitered around, waiting for her to get down again so they could pay like normal people. edith did not get down.
she had a good instinct however and she felt like this customer was not just loitering because of edith making herself an obstacle in their normal shopping routine, but they were loitering because they felt watched and uncomfortable. edith knew the difference. she often made people feel watched and uncomfortable. ‘that’s like... five dollars.’ she said when the person checked the price tag for the third time. she picked at her nail polish with a bored expression. ‘as you know because you’ve been standing there, fondling that thing for like ten fucking minutes.’
━━ i proudly present the disaster human that is edith. she was originally created to be like a reincarnation of eris, the greek goddess of chaos so she’s basically just a huge bitch who can’t keep out of other people’s business. kind of the personification of a halsey song. if i met her irl she’d probably punch me.
━━ ( sky ferreira, cis female) hey ! have you seen EDITH PRESCOTT around ? SHE works as a GIFT SHOP ASSOCIATE at big bear resort, but they must be off their shift by now. well, if you do see them can you let me know ? they’re 22 years old & they’ve been working here for THREE MONTHS. they tend to be +PERCEPTIVE & +PURPOSEFUL, but can also be -MEDDLESOME & -OBTRUSIVE. the other employees have labeled them THE MACHIAVELLIAN. thanks a lot ! ( leather jackets, a dark deserted alley at 3am, blood red nails, the smell of something burning that shouldn’t be on fire, a fist through a wall, jeans ripped to shreds, glass shattering, smudged eyeliner, lipstick stained sigarettes stubbed out on )

there’s a certain kind of power that comes with a bad reputation. edith was a difficult child, the kind of kid parents warned their children about. schemy, prone to conflict, up to no good, edith knows what people have been saying behind her back for practically her whole life. it hasn’t gotten any better now that she’s an adult. as a child it bothered her, she couldn’t help her angry outburst, it wasn’t really something she had any control over. as a teenager she started to paint her nails blood red and her lips dark purple. she bleached her hair and ripped her clothes. not only did she start looking like the person everyone already thought she was, she also started acting like it. if there was a rumor going around, it was most likely started by edith. some rumors might have been fake, but most were true, edith has a knack for finding out people’s secrets and using them to stir up drama. chaos is what she thrives on.
she tried to change her ways when she started college, but at every party, during every lecture, there were the familiar stares and whispers. however, her ‘new way of living’ didn’t last very long, she got bored. it’s hard to change old habits. it only took one semester for her to get kicked out of half of her classes, and then she dropped out of the rest of them for good measure, to the displeasure of her mom.
edith moved to big bear with her mom when she was 4. she doesn’t really remember much from before that. she has a few vague memories of her dad, none of them good. she hasn’t seen him since they moved, and she’d like to keep it that way. her relationship with her mother is also not the easiest, since they’re very similar in a lot of ways, but also very different. at times they’re very close, but they also fight a lot. yet, her mother is probably the only person edith truly trusts and is attached to.
yep, this girl has a bunch of trust issues, she’s very guarded. it’s mostly a result of her own meddlesome tendencies. she wouldn’t want anyone to find out anything about her that could be used against her, like she does with other people’s private matters. clearly, she’s also a hypocrite. not that weird since she does have a bit of a god complex.
fun(?) facts:
- she practically has had every job at the resort at this point, and also just around big bear in general. she keeps getting fired and hired and fired again. the longest job she ever had was the one before her current one, as a bartender at the resort bar. she got fired because she emptied a bottle of whiskey over a customer's head. to be fair, he was a creep and wouldn't stop commenting about her ass, to her face.
- people are often surprised at how tiny she actually is. they usually expect her to be taller. in reality she’s 5.5, but she likes to joke about it by saying her personality makes up for her lack of height. however do Not joke about it to her as well because that won’t end very well.
- she’s actually a surprisingly good friend. the problem is just that there just aren’t many people she actually likes.
wanted connections
- a partner i crime, someone who can and will fuck shit up with her.
- someone she knows something about that they don’t want anyone to know, and this person knows that edith knows.
- people she has hurt/fought with/used/hurt/etc etc
- a childhood friend that she fell out with, possibly because edith pushed them away
