This could also be due to limited access to training, advice and services. Despite the fact that a large majority of the population of rural areas are involved in farming, studies show that there is limited access to agricultural education, and that only one in ten had heard of the existing extension services. With regards to knowledge of such services, there was a 20 percentage point difference between women’s and men’s awareness (with women being less informed than men). An absolute majority of those surveyed only produced agricultural products for their own consumption. Only 20% planned to engage in farming for income generation (of those 40% are women and 60% are men) and less than one percent are members of a functioning cooperative. According to data from the Cooperatives Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture, women constitute 25% of the membership base of cooperatives.

this is due to financial constraints and women’s double work burden. There is a gendered division of labor in agricultural value chains, where in most regions, women are concentrated in the animal husbandry value chain and men in the value chain for crops. However, when the two are combined, women engage in agricultural activities 80 days more per year than men, on average. Despite this, the prevailing stereotypes prescribe that women should stay at home and look after children; and their work is not being recognized.

Case Study #3: A shepherd girl who became the French minister of Education Najat Belkacem, France’s Minister of Education and Research Najat Belkacem is an inspiration to everyone who believe truly that even the people who have had poor childhood can succeed. She was born in a village of Nador in 1977 which is a small village in the countryside in Morocco. Morocco is considered a third world country, where people are often poor and not given enough opportunities to have a proper education. Najat is a Moroccan Muslim French minister who herded sheep in her childhood. Because of her background and her place of birth and religion, she has been a sweet target for all the regressive sexist and racist comments conservative politicians can throw at her. They have attacked her by calling her slurs, objectifying her for the way she dresses and Najat has continued to fight back efficiently. These are strong independent women who are fighting for a cause and have been prevented from attending school for so long and thus please reblog and spread awareness ❤️❤️
Case Study #2: Earlier this year, this photo of Jahantab Ahmadi, a 25-year-old Afghan farmer, went viral on social media. This powerful photo shows her sitting on the floor, and cradling her child while taking a university exam, and people were deeply moved by the story behind it. In order to take this examination, she had to walk for two hours from Ushto, a remote village in central Daikundi province, followed by a 10-hour bus journey. However, her baby started crying due to an earache during the exam causing Jahantab to get up from the desk and sat on the floor to try and calm down the child, while continuing to answer questions with her other hand. Her determination to complete her education against all odds has gained the admiration of many people around the world, and has since become a symbol of hope and inspiration for many young girls in rural villages who are unable to attend school.

Rahmaniya is a 18-year-old girl from the southern city of Kandahar. She did not dare to go to school until her Father passed away five years ago, as he had vowed to disown her if she tried to get an education. However, Rahmaniya’s Brother threatens to stab her with a knife he carries in his pocket, and to throw acid on to her if she goes to school, forcing her to go into hiding. solution #5: preventing violence in schools - plans should ensure the prevention of violence in school, to provide a safe learning environment for both girls and boys. In this way, girls would not feel afraid to go to school as they are fearful of being bullied. Plans also works with schools to networks of peers and mentors, as well as trained female teachers to offer social support and create a safe learning space for both boys and girls.
solution #4: challenging gender roles - raising awareness of gender equality in the family and community will provide girls with the opportunity to receive and education with the parents’ support. It is also important to engage parents in open dialogue regarding gender stereotype issues.
solution #3: village savings and loans associations - programmes provide financial help to the less fortunate, allowing girls to be able to invest in their education and attend schools.
