Edie. The name rang a bell, he had been given tidbits about her, from what he gathered she fit in well with the rest of them. Reese would have been initially distrustful of her because of her Fairy past if Beaux hadn’t told him about the times she looked out for her. 

“Think we must have just passed each other.” Reese commented, referring to her joining the Rogers ranks and him being carted off in handcuffs for a long stretch. 

“Apparently.” Edie flashed a small smile, more cautious with him than she would have been with anyone else that had returned under different circumstances. Her time with Mason had let her see that there were lines not to cross, especially when one didn’t know the person very well. 

“You picked a hell of a time to come back. I’m guessing Beaux or Mase filled you in?”

Reese looked up as though threatened as someone slid into the opposite side of his booth as he was midway through his apple pie. In prison every move was a power struggle, the cafeteria had been a battleground for dominance and more than once something as meaningless as chocolate mousse had ended up in an infirmary visit. Despite being free nearly a month now, he hadn’t been able to shake that mindset.

“Oh no, it’s another serious one.” Edie smiled lightly, her curiosity peaked when she had heard that Beaux’s long absent boyfriend had returned. With her luck, he would be another Smee who was more likely to beat her up than shake her hand but this was the lot she had thrown in with.

“She that bad?“ Hayden inquired, raising his brow at the blonde. Hayden didn’t know much about Michelle, he had never bothered to take the time to get to know her when ever she had been around The Cinema. Always too occupied with drowning himself in the bottom of a bottle to hush his grieving thoughts about Chuck and how he was still no closer to learning the truth behind his death.

“Not really, we just don’t mesh well.” Edie shrugged, though the lack of acceptance from Mason’s family did smart a bit.

“Not a fan of the in-laws?“

“Would you be?” Edie raised her eyebrows, never one to mince words. “They don’t like me, I don’t like them. It’s mutual and it works for us.”

“Dodging the bullet?“ Hayden asked where he stood near the door, brow quirked in her direction with his arms folded across his chest. It would have been amusing to him if not for the tension crackling in the air. Hayden didn’t know Michelle, but if she was enough to make Edie want to turn and run away then he knew what ever was about to follow wasn’t going to be good for Mason or the Captain.

“Just a bit.” Edie didn’t love the idea of getting between Mason and his sisters in an argument. It wouldn’t end well for anyone, it would just cause more harm.

“More checks then crosses.” He disagreed, Sadie was safe, Smee was….Smee. A founding lost boy was dead and some were no doubt injured. It was a big win for the home team. And despite his friend’s distress, Chase couldn’t be miffed or distraught about George Darling’s dead friend when the cinema was now an empty lot. 

“If you say so.” Edie didn’t add anything more than that. Her conversations with Maggie and Opal had weighed heavily enough on her that she didn’t wish to celebrate more destruction.

“And you don’t want to stick around because.” Chase tilted his head from side to side, connecting the dots before grabbing his jacket and lighter. “I’ll come with you.”

“They don’t exactly love me. I’m a bad influence.” Edie laughed at the thought, before taking Chase’s arm so they could walk. “So you haven’t had a good night, then?”

“Someone else’s bad date.” Chase stated vaguely, his expression suddenly flattened. Sadie was neutral, and as much as Chase respected it it came with a price same as choosing a side did. He’d pop by the grotto later to see if she was okay, maybe even bring flowers or something. 

“Why are Chelle and Roxy here?”

“Oh.” Edie’s lips pursed in contemplation- she had always assumed Sadie hung around so much because she was dating one of them. Chase had been the safest bet. 

“Not sure. They generally only gather all together when they’re angry at Mason.”

“Get the car, rescue your friend, get back as soon as possible.” Chase muttered to himself, it was suppose to be easy. In and out, but the second they got to the boarder Sadie saw Hook and he barely had time to stop the car before she was barreling out of it. “Didn’t even get time to park and…” He caught Edie from the corner of his eye, his head popping up similarly to a meerkat when he had. “Hey, where you off to?” 

“Both of Mason’s sisters are in there so I’m getting as far away as possible.” Edie knew better than to linger when the Williams all got in a room together. She and Josh had made a pretty good system of avoidance when it came to situations like that. 

“Your mer-friend didn’t look so hot back there. You two have a bad date?” Edie had only seen the girl dressed to the nines, now in tears. It seemed like a pretty simple way to put two and two together.

             “I don’t want to imagine.” 

   She could do it, however. As Edie mentioned,     Molly had only exchanged a few words here    and there with them, nothing much. She was    not particularly keen on staying either.

    “Head the way if you’re feeling lucky.”

“We’ll be good and stay on our side, don’t you worry.”

                 “What’s the hurry, E?”

    Molly didn’t need to know the answer to such     question – she had seen Michelle enter the     church. However, out there wasn’t the best     place to be, when they were about to claim     responsibility for what had happened at the      Loft. Hell, Lost Boys were probably pointing     fingers at them, which she didn’t mind at all.

“You haven’t dealt much with Mason’s sisters, have you?” She could deal with angry Losties, she had been after all for a long time now. “I’ll take my chances.”

At the sight of her almost sister-in-law, Edie knew better than to stick around, headed out the door as quickly as possible. Things were far too tense for her liking, but if she had said as much, she knew she would only be met with stares and maybe an annoying insult- neither of which she was in the mood for.

“Oh, but we have have to be cool with you and Mase bumping uglies all the time?” Angel scoffed. “Besides, I take all that Bibilcal stuff a bit more loosely. I only really pray when I need something. Anything else is my mums department.”

“We usually can find somewhere private! If we feel like it.” They usually didn’t but if the guys had a problem they knew where to find her. “So disappointing, Angel face. You’re meant to be the good one.”

“Ew.” Edie deadpanned. Thinking about Vaeda having sex was like imagining two gummi bears together. The idea just did not mix. “We’re in a church, isn’t your whole thing to have respect for it?”

Angel looked up from his phone, only just now realizing that he was being spoken to. He opened and closed his mouth several times, mind struggling to settle on the right thing to say. 

“Um. The color is…bright?”

“You’re so lucky Vaeda values your face.” 

Edie narrowed her eyes at him, though by now she should have known better than to expect a compliment from the Rogers. They were not built for niceties, even the ones that were inherently kind people, like Angel.

Edie gave a small twirl, testing out the look and feel of her new dress. She was accustomed to showing off whenever she bought something new, but given instructions, she had stayed under the radar and as close to home as possible- at least for a time.

“That’s not my job! That was never my job.” Maggie bellowed as she took a step away from Edie. That job had nearly driven her to her death, and she wouldn’t be blamed about the way she decided to piece herself back together. “So fuck you and your expectations! If that means I get blame, fine. I’ll take some of the goddamn blame. But I’m not alone on this. Nana and Opal are also on you.”

“Yeah, they are. And I live with that every day. But I wasn’t in a position to help them. You were.” Edie looked at Maggie with almost disappointment on her face before starting to walk away.
