Entertainment Spotlight: Wyatt Oleff, I Am Not Okay With This
We got a kick out of chatting with Wyatt Oleff, who stars as Stanley Barber in I Am Not Okay With This. Along with his memorable (and fashionable) portrayal of Stanley Barber, he’s also been in multiple films including It (different Stanley), Guardians of the Galaxy, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017).
When you think about your experience of filming, is there a specific funny moment or story that sticks out?
We went to a resort called Nemacolin in Pittsburg, and it was a whole weekend of activities [for my birthday where the cast got to know each other]. And after that we performed considerably lower than we used to according to director Jonathan Entwistle. He said, “Everything was great before then.”
If the show was a musical, what scene or episode would Stanley’s big number be, and what would the song be called?
Mine would be in episode 1-02 which is about Stanley and Sidney, and it would be called the “Master of One F**ck” which is the same name as the episode, which I think would be very fitting… Actually, I change my answer opening of 1-04, I’m singing the song [ “The King of Rock ‘N’ Roll” by Prefab Sprout].
What’s your favorite thing that you saw on the internet recently?
There’s been a lot new on the new Animal Crossing game. I’m really excited about it!
Do you feel a certain connection to the name Stanley after playing more than one character with that name? Does Stanely feel like an alter-ego at this point?
I think it was pretty weird and coincidental that I’m playing a Stanley again. I know that a lot of people are like, “Oh, he’s playing Stanley again. He’s meant to be Stanley” and I get it, it’s fun. Personally, I kinda don’t care. It’s a different character to me, I don’t really identify the character by their name but more of how they act. I don’t feel like Stanley’s an alter ago, he’s more of a different version of myself… which is an alter ego. A little bit then, yes. I think he’s a little different from me in a couple ways, but I definitely feel like we’re very similar.
