“Have you got any idea where I might find a half decent beer around here?” The tall brunette asked the nearest person as his gaze wandered around aimlessly.
Poking his head out from the auditorium curtains, he looked around, he had been hiding from the freshmen he had pranked with some fake spiders - a child’s prank if he was honest. “Are they gone?” He whispered, asking the person passing by.
Edward had watched the whole ordeal with a smug sense of amusement about him. He nodded as he’d attempted to exit the auditorium, looking back at the man. “Yes Mate, you’re clear. Next time you should really step it up though. Fake spiders only get you so far.”
Declan had a map of the Charlton campus. Somewhere. He already knew his necessary routes, but there was one place he kept meaning to go that he hadn’t yet visited, and as a result, he couldn’t remember exactly where it was. Just as he was passing someone outside, a bag slung over his shoulder, Declan paused and leaned over to the person seated nearby. “Excuse me. Do you mind telling me where the fitness center is?”
Edward glanced between the man and the piece of paper with his signature amused grin. “Yeah, sure. It’s right around the corner there.” he said, pointing down the pathway, knowing those where not the right directions. “You don’t look like you much need it though.” he suggested as he further examined him. “You on some kind of sports team?”
❝ scaring people is kinda my thing. ❞
“Well Love, I suggest that if you’re trying to hit on men then find another tactic because I’m not sure how well scaring them will work.” Edward winked at the girl with a knowing grin.
As the boy continued the conversation, the girl glanced back, tucking a loose strand behind her ear. “The view from the London eye is breathtaking. Although, nothing beats the Eiffel Tower sunset.” She smiled, her French accent accompanying her statement. No matter how many cities the girl has been to, nothing could beat the city of lights. While most people called it the city of love, the girl kept it to lights, finding shelter in the thousands of tiny sparkles, forming stars on earth. At his generic pick up line, the girl couldn’t help but let out a chuckle, genuinely surprised. While guys would flirt with her all the time, it wasn’t as frequent as her making the first move, making use of the opportunity. “Got anymore of those up your sleeves?”
Edward instantly caught onto her accent. “Have you been to the Eiffel Tower at sunset? There’s not much like it anywhere else in the world.” Edward commented, blissfully unaware of how obvious it was he was lost in his own memories momentarily. “Love, I’ve spent my entire life writing lines like those just to get the attention of girls like you. There’s really nothing I’d rather be doing.” his own English accent faintly shined through.
The line to the Ferris wheel was horribly long; multiple lines of people swirling between the metal chains. One thing that didn’t mix was lines and Kendall. Knowing a whole lot of people, the girl managed to skip at least half the line, standing behind a familiar face from her psychology class. As the boy went on and on, she eventually got bored, turning around to check out the person standing behind her. The girl stared at the person behind her before they caught her, immediately turning her head. “Long line, right?”
Edward was walking down the lane, passing by a few rides and generally taking in the scene when he spotted a beautiful girl in line for the the Ferris Wheel. Considering this his opportunity to shine, he got in line behind her. He raised a brow in surprise when he was addressed first. “Long, but I’d count it as worth it. I mean it’s no London Eye but I figure you could see the whole city from up there.” her paused and looked back at Kendall. “The view might almost be as pretty as you.”
“I have a really terrible aim but in my defense, I haven’t played any of these games in forever.”
“Right, sure, blame it on the game man.” Edward chuckled as he rook the ball. “Watch and learn,” she smiled, effortlessly throwing the ball through the hoop.
“I mean – just look at it.” Gabriella pointed to the ferris wheel, a horrified expression present on her face. “It’s proof that carnival rides are built to kill everyone. It doesn’t even look stable. You cannot go on that. I won’t let you die this way.”
“Do you honestly believe that thing,” he pointed over the ferris wheel. “Is going to be the death of you. Come on love, it’s time to go and face your fears.” he said with a devious smile, attempting to usher her over to the ride.
“I honestly don’t know why there’s someone with a chainsaw trying to scare people? It’s a carnival, not fright fest.”
“Where were they? He sounds like the kind of person I need to be friends with. At least someone is finding something entertaining to do at this thing.” Edward sighed.
When the other guy turned down a cupcake, Warren simply nodded. Once he left the Java Jolt, there were plenty of people around who weren’t interested in any of the items sold. “These are the only baked goods being sold. The organizers told my boss they wanted something more substantial than cotton candy as an option,” he explained with a shrug.
“Hm,” His eyebrows raised as he nodded in understanding. “Well that’s unfortunate you’re working on such a lovely evening. You should be able to enjoy yourself like the rest of us.”
I know that it is supposed to be around here somewhere, but I have yet to locate it.
Edward nodded his head to the side in the direction of the food tents. “I’d try the one of the end. Seems to have a lot of sticky children with blue and pink tongues coming out of it.” he shrugged.
Edward had never gotten past Cassie’s critical gaze. She liked him well enough, obviously, but she was never one to fall for his charming personality and smooth phrases. She had dealt with his type before and, while she was happy to be his friend, she never wanted him as anything more. “Oh, come on, it’s not that bad,” she started. “It’s fun. And there will always be screaming kids, no matter what time of year it is.”
“True, but they seem to get particularly upset when candy is involved which is either now or Easter. I usually hide away just for that reason.” Her gaze followed a mother in the distance who was carrying a crying toddler down the walkway. “God I can’t imagine being responsible for one of those things.”
Chance // Edward & Sam
They were once Romeo and Juliet - that much she remembered. He was a forbidden fruit of a rebellious demeanor that begged for more attention for what he is deemed of. He was a boy of charms, a boy who got around with charisma, a boy who would never go for a girl like her. Samantha was well-mannered, elegant, poised, and she was too innocent for his antics. They stood at opposite spectrum never meant to collide. Yet, somehow they did, but in secret they were together. Rolling her hues, the girl stepped in line to order some, apparently homemade, lemonade from the older man ahead. When she received her drink, she stepped away from line only to now be in front of the Edward she once thought highly of until her own parents tore them away. His comment made her brows furrow in confusion. “I stopped wearing costumes when I was six.” She chewed on the straw as she observed him in his same appearance from their years together at private school. “I don’t go prancing around in pink gowns and Goldilocks. Sorry to disappoint.” She spoke with the tilt of her head.
How was she here? Why was she here? How long had they missed each other in the crossroads of Charlton? Why was he himself in Charlton? All topics of conversation that jumbled in his mind as emotions which had been long since tucked away flooded back. The memories of the one rule he’d been reprimanded for breaking. They took away the only person he’d actually cared for at that point in his life- not that he’d shared that thought with anyone of consequence since. It had just stewed in his mind waiting for a moment of realization that was Sam standing in front of him. In his mind’s haste to organize his thoughts, one question burning floated to the surface. “Well Goldilocks might have been a little closer to your actual wardrobe.” Edward tilted his own head, mirroring her gesture with a cocked brow and a lazy smile. “It’s not really disappointing though, just surprising. Are you at Charlton now?”
Chance // Edward & Sam
Samantha wanted to store herself under the three blankets that wrap her up in the dark bedroom with the only light flickering from the street lamp outside peeking through the slightly open blinds of her window. To stuff herself into slumber would have been nice, but her only thoughts revolved around her mother, her brother, and her cousin. Alyssa was also going through a hard time, and Sam would do anything to see her smile again. That’s why they both agreed to attend the carnival together for they could both escape the darkness in their mind and room. Navigating around the festivity, she spotted those dressed up and others still in sleepwear from perhaps adorning a lazy day that morning. Sam was wearing her typical gear of dark apparel with her black high heeled ankle boots, black skinny jeans with rips made by her very own hands, and a low cut maroon tank with her leather jacket over to cover from the cold. It’s an outfit the old Samantha would be disgusted by. When she felt hands on her shoulder, preventing her to buy a drink from a vendor, she turned over to only see a face she would never wish to run into ever again. “Trying to buy a drink. Hydration, you know.” It was a smart-ass response, a response hopefully pushing Edward away.
Edward instantly retracted his hand. Surely this could not be the same female he’d spent so long regretting. His dark gaze quickly searched her in confusion. “My apologies. Didn’t mean to interrupt ‘hydration.’” Ed used air quotations around his last word for emphasis. He stepped back. This girl in front of him was now the Samantha Thronton he’d dated back in prep school. Revealing shirt, torn clothes, and generally snarky demeanor. There was a time where he’d dreamed of he wearing such an outfit, but the time had long since faded into the back of his memories. “Nice costume.” Edward said poignantly with a singularly raised eyebrow. Even if this wasn’t the Samantha he recognized, he was still curious as to how she’d come to this particular look. He on the other hand, adorned the same namebrand, preppy clothes he always had. It was a look that had never failed to impress, and why change what worked so well? “What exactly are you dressed as?” he inquired with only an air of curiosity as he took her in.
